A duplex scanner is what I use for papers. I throw a wad of them into the hopper, it turns them into PDFs, and I throw out the paper. If I ever get around to it, I can sort through the digitized images. The software even has character recognition, so I can search for key words. And in any case, the scanned images fit on a tiny hard drive, not in huge boxes taking up space.
