Title: Some Mysteries Are Better Left Unsolved
Author: himawarixxsandz
Pairing: Joonho (Joon/Seungho)
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Joon is a mystery and Seungho tries to be a detective.
In all honesty, Seungho has no idea why he’s dating Joon.
Okay, so maybe that’s not true. If Seungho says he has no idea why he’s dating Joon, people who don’t know Joon and who have never seen him before might think that Joon is an evil, ugly troll that abuses Seungho on a regular basis. Which, Seungho would say at that point, is definitely not true. While Joon does abuse Seungho occasionally, it’s only abuse of the mind and the rest of MBLAQ does that to Seungho, too. It’s a Leader-nim thing, so Seungho doesn’t really count it off as a domestic crime.
Joon is actually quite good-looking and likes to constantly remind Seungho (and the rest of South Korea, and then some) about this blatantly obvious fact. And while Joon can be irritating to the point where Seungho and G.O., and Cheondoong and Mir if their ages would only permit them, want to smack him upside the head until what’s left of his IQ disappears, Joon is also quite kind and considerate and means well even if the majority of his kind deeds usually result in burnt food, deodorant-filled socks, and angry band members.
But despite all that, after being with Joon for several years-pre-debut and all of those years-Seungho knows that Joon has an abundance of loveable, attractive qualities that he’s sure all of the women (and maybe some men) in South Korea would be more than willing to give an organ and a limb for (as Joon likes to phrase it). Seungho knows that as time goes by, as they go deeper into being MBLAQ and being Seungho and Joon, he’ll get to know Joon better until he’ll be able to say for sure why he’s dating Lee Joon.
Because right now, he really doesn’t know.
01: You understand me like no one else does
“Hyung,” Joon says softly as they lie in the darkness, bodies covered with lingering perspiration and breaths still uneven. Seungho closes his eyes and focuses on cooling down even with the AC on full blast and under covers as thin as they come. After a few seconds pass, he feels Joon wrapping his arms around Seungho’s waist so that there’s not even an inch of space between their bodies.
“Changsun-ah,” Seungho mumbles. “It’s hot.”
“Hyung,” Joon continues in that oddly soft and gentle voice of his, refusing to budge even when Seungho is trying to fall asleep-something that he knows will prove impossible as long as Joon continues to latch their sticky, sweaty selves together like this. “It’s going to be all right.”
Seungho turns around then and squints at Joon through the darkness. “Wait-what is?” he asks, because he wasn’t aware that something wasn’t all right in the first place.
“Shh,” Joon says and Seungho thinks it’s mildly creepy when Joon tries to be romantic and comforting. He holds Seungho tighter and the leader wonders if this is going to be his death-if he’s really going to die by suffocation while sharing a bed with the biggest idiot that ever lived. “I know you’re upset that Cheolyong stepped on your foot during dance practice today, but it’s going to be okay.”
Seungho blinks because no one should be forced to endure Joon’s absurdity at 2 in the morning-not even Yang Seungho. “I’m not upset, Changsun-ah,” he says, slightly confused, but mostly just pissed that they both aren’t asleep yet because they have a Ystar interview the next day.
“You don’t have to pretend with me, Seungho-hyung,” Joon says with an air of great, understanding sympathy. He strokes the side of Seungho’s face and all Seungho can think about is how it’s extremely creepy when Joon tries to be romantic and comforting and that expression on Joon’s face will probably crop up somewhere in Seungho’s nightmares in the next few days.
“No-Changsun-ah, I’m really not-“
“I saw the tears, hyung,” Joon says sadly as Seungho asks God what he’s done to deserve dating someone like this. “I saw the tears you were trying to hide.”
“Um-Changsun-ah, that was sweat-“
“Shh,” Joon repeats, wrapping his arms and legs around Seungho again in a manner quite reminiscent of an octopus. “It’ll be okay. We’ll get through this together.”
As the digital clock hits 2:45 and Joon starts singing an obscure, immensely creepy, lullaby in Seungho’s ear, Seungho thinks that maybe he greatly offended the heavens in his past life and now he’s finally receiving the proper retribution.
02: You’re always there for me
“Changsun-ah,” Seungho says to the entity latched onto his body. “Why are you here?”
“Because I like you, hyung,” Joon says as if Seungho is stupid.
“I know that,” Seungho says patiently and blocks out the sound of Junhyung choking on his coffee because he’s trying not to laugh. “But why are you here in this particular Starbucks when I told you that I was hanging out with Junhyung for the day?”
“Because I really like you, hyung,” Joon says into Seungho’s stomach, oblivious to the odd looks that are starting to be cast in their direction because while wrapping your arms around your same-gendered friend’s waist can be classified as skinship, remaining in that position and then burying your face into that same-gendered friend’s body is a slightly different thing entirely.
“I know that, too,” Seungho says, reminding himself that Lee Joon is an important one-fifth of MBLAQ and Jihoon-hyung won’t be happy if Lee Joon suddenly no longer exists. “But I kind of want to hang out with Junhyung alone,” he explains carefully.
Joon blinks up at him.
“Without you,” Seungho tries again.
Joon’s eyebrows furrow in confusion. “But hyung,” he says, utterly puzzled, “I like you.”
Junhyung, by this point, has given up trying not to laugh and at the very least, he’s attracting stares away from Joon’s continuous leeching onto Seungho’s body.
The BEAST member ends up leaving shortly after Seungho’s seventh attempt to explain to Joon that dating doesn’t entail the two involved parties being constantly attached at the hip every second of their lives. Junhyung is guffawing all the way out the door and Seungho knows that his cell phone will be spammed by Doojoon later on, probably with nothing more than just a lot of “ROFL”s in succession.
Meanwhile, Joon whips out a list of all the stores and restaurants they are going to go to for the rest of the day, and as Seungho looks at the completely filled piece of paper, he wonders if maybe Joon really is a genius after all.
An evil genius.
03: You never hide anything from me
Recently, Seungho’s clothes have gone missing.
Not missing in the sense that Seungho is a messy person and his disorganization has lost him track of his clothes. It’s more in the sense that he would give manager-hyung his share of laundry and when manager-hyung returns with MBLAQ’s weekly laundry haul, Seungho’s laundry would be incomplete.
It starts out with a pair of boxers, and then goes up to two pairs of boxers, and then a shirt and then another shirt and then more boxers and then more shirts and now Seungho has to borrow underwear from Mir and is stuck wearing shirts he doesn’t really like and thus has never really bothered to wear before.
The mystery goes unsolved for a week and then Seungho walks into his and Joon’s bedroom to find Joon with one hand in his pants and one hand holding a pair of Seungho’s missing boxers to his face.
It suddenly all makes an odd kind of sense. But odd is Joon’s specialty.
“Hyung-I-not what it looks like-you get tired really easy-I-you can have-clothes back-return-yeah-I’ll wash them-so-don’t-yell-I mean-sorry-but-hyung-yeah,” Joon stutters, and Seungho notices that his hand is still in his pants and he’s still clutching Seungho’s boxers.
Seungho mentally sighs and goes over to sit down on the bed. He knows that the first thing out of his mouth should be something to the likes of “Why?” or “Why would you do that?” or even “You shouldn’t have stolen my clothes”. But instead, he blurts out, “Do I even smell that good?” and thinks that Joon is probably starting to influence him with his absurd idiocy.
“I don’t know,” Joon admits, the tips of his ears reddening a bit even though there’s a grin blooming on his face. “I don’t know if you smell good or not-it just really turns me on-how you smell, I mean.”
Seungho’s mind gives one more sigh and he makes to leave. “I guess I’ll just let you finish,” he says.
Joon looks swiftly at him. “Wait-hyung,” he says, and Seungho stops in mid-motion. “We can make this work,” Joon says, and he suddenly has one of his hands fisting the base of his cock and the other gripping the back of Seungho’s head.
The attractive and loveable qualities of Lee Joon, Seungho thinks as Joon moans and grips the leader’s hair tighter with every move of Seungho’s tongue, are getting more and more mythical and if they get any more mythical, they will be as easy to find as Zeus’s lightning bolts.
04: You always protect me
“You’re right,” Seungho says once he turns around on the sofa and finds where Joon is pointing to. “There’s a spider on the wall. Would you like the Nobel Peace Prize?”
Joon has already leaped to his feet and off from the sofa. He doesn’t take his gaze off of the insect as he says, “Hyung-hyung, it’s fucking humongous. It’s mutated-it’s a monster-it’s going to eat us right now, hyung.”
Seungho stands up and walks over to Joon’s side because maybe if he looks at the spider from Joon’s vantage point then it will make more sense as to why Joon is screaming bloody murder of a spider that’s, at the largest, as big as Seungho’s fingernail. “Changsun-ah,” he says, “It’s not a big spider.”
“Your eyesight is obviously going because you’re getting old,” Joon says, now gripping Seungho’s arm in blatant, shameless fear. Seungho feels fingernail-imprints forming in his skin. “Oh my fuck, it’s moving-it is moving!” Joon shouts in Seungho’s ear, adding the fingernails of his other hand into Seungho’s skin. “Hyung-hyung it’s moving.”
Seungho wants to say that in the case that his eyesight is fading because of his old age (which it’s not because he’s not old and his eyesight is not fading), then Joon has just caused his hearing to go too and thus added deafness to his list of factors that make him an unhealthy idol. “Yes, Changsun-ah,” he sighs. “It’s moving.” He refrains from adding that it’s probably moving to escape the waves of stupidity radiating off of Joon.
“Hyung, kill it-hyung you have to kill it!” Joon yells, raising the decibel level to a level that could probably permanently damage a small child’s hearing.
Seungho rips his arm away from Joon before any bleeding ensues and steps up onto the couch to take a closer look at the spider. It skitters around in a circle for a few seconds and then pauses. “It’s really not that bad,” Seungho says after a few seconds of checking the insect for any potentially fatal qualities. “I think it’s just a house spi-“
He turns around to reassure Joon except Joon has already fled the dorm.
Seungho sighs and says to the spider, “I wish I was you,” and commences to kill it with Mir’s new iPad.
05: You always make me feel wanted
Joon, Seungho has observed, is a clingy person to date. He’s not clingy in the sense that he follows Seungho wherever he goes (although he does that often at broadcasting stations), or in the sense that he constantly texts Seungho for attention (although Seungho’s inbox is spammed to the brim), or even in the sense that he never lets Seungho go out with his friends (although there was that one time with Junhyung).
Joon, Seungho has observed, is clingy in the sense of being a skinship whore. Joon is always throwing himself at Seungho both on and off camera, only on camera it is usually innocent hugging and arms-around-the-shoulders and maybe the occasional hand-clasp. Off camera, however, the hugs are tighter, the arms-around-the-shoulders morph into arms-around-the-waist and the occasional hand-clasp turns into the occasional ass-grope.
Seungho doesn’t really mind because it’s not like Joon means any harm by it and Joon never pushes or pulls or whines for sex or blowjobs or hand jobs or anything else involving one of Seungho’s orifices and Joon’s cock, so Seungho sees no harm in letting Joon octopus himself all over Seungho 24/7.
And in turn, Seungho thinks that maybe sometimes Seungho himself is allowed to be clingy to Joon, too.
With that in mind, Seungho leans into Joon’s shoulder as Joon and Mir are sitting in front of their TV playing a video game. “You want to go out tomorrow?” he asks, nudging Joon’s side lightly.
Joon’s eyes are superglued to the screen and his thumbs are going haywire with the controls. “Bwuh?” he says intelligently as Mir starts screaming about his gun running out of ammunition. “Yes!” Joon shouts right then, shooting onto his feet and sending Seungho skidding into the sofa. “Yes I win, fucking take that, Cheolyong-ah!”
Mir stands up as well and they start up a shouting match while Seungho sits forgotten on the ground and wonders if maybe he’s the only one who’s really beginning to think that Joon’s loveable and attractive qualities are hidden somewhere in the seventy-sixth dimension.
06: You let me know that I’m beautiful
Seungho walks out of the bedroom wearily after only two hours of sleep because of a late filming of Idol United. He sits next to Joon at the kitchen table and G.O. pushes a piping hot bowl of ramen to him. “’Morning,” he says blearily to Joon and wonders how Joon managed to get up so early and look so happy despite the fact that both of them and Mir all got home at the same late hour.
Joon’s fresh, not-puffy-or-swollen-in-the-least, face is grinning and talking animatedly to Cheondoong when he turns to face Seungho.
And the grin fades away.
“What?” Seungho says through a mouthful of ramen.
“You look like shit,” Joon says, blinking. “Make sure the stylist-noonas put on, like, the entire foundation bottle.”
“Well,” Seungho says sarcastically, swallowing a spoon of soup. “Thanks.”
07: You love me for who I am
Everyone has loves that made them sad when they were younger, and it’s not uncommon for idols to share their broken love stories during interviews-whether it’s to avoid a question about a current love or whether they simply want to share it with their fans, since sad love stories usually elicit the how-dare-she-oppa-we-would-never-do-that reaction from fangirls.
So Seungho doesn’t think much of sharing one of his sad love stories during an interview MBLAQ has for a magazine photo shoot. Like the majority of average people’s love stories, it happened when Seungho was in high school-nothing tragic, nothing too exciting, just the usual back and forth of he liked her and she told him she liked him and things faded and she broke up with him. He glazes over details, summarizing that she told him she didn’t want to be with him because he was too serious, because he never seemed to show affection to her, because he wasn’t fun, because he always looked so sad.
G.O. and Mir each share a sad love story of their own while Joon and Cheondoong just talk about ex-girlfriends and then the interview wraps up, and they are driven home by manager-hyung.
The girl Seungho talked about and the story that goes with her has never bothered him before-he was sad and properly heartbroken when it happened, but high school was years ago and it never bothered him after that. But for some reason, whether it’s just lingering thoughts or something else, he’s still thinking about it when nighttime comes around and Joon crawls, after changing into his pajamas, into Seungho’s bed.
Yang Seungho in high school wasn’t much different from Yang Seungho now-he was still focused on dancing and singing and not much else, quiet, sometimes sullen, dark circles making him look more so, and only the closest of his friends were able to see him really laugh.
His and Joon’s shoulders are touching as they sit against the pillows and Joon has threaded his fingers through Seungho’s, their entwined hands resting on top of the blanket. Joon has been strangely quiet since the photo shoot and Seungho thinks back to Joon’s confession-the second time around, when Joon listed the reasons why he likes Seungho. The reasons Joon listed are the same reasons the girl broke up with him, Seungho realizes, and he wonders why that is.
“What are you thinking about?” Joon finally asks in a quiet voice.
“The girl that I talked about in the interview,” Seungho answers simply.
“Oh.” Joon’s thumb runs over Seungho’s knuckles absently. “What about her?”
Seungho shrugs. “Just-why she broke up with me-that kind of thing.”
“She was stupid,” Joon mumbles.
Seungho blinks. “Why? Because she dumped me? I think you’re just biased.”
“No,” Joon says, and their eyes meet. “Because of the reasons she dumped you.” His tone is incredulous and his eyes are wide with incredulity. “She dumped you for all the reasons that make you awesome-how does that make sense?” He’s sputtering now, in his very Lee Joon-like way, taking a kneeling stance on the bed, arms flailing a bit. “It’s like deciding not to eat a marshmallow because it’s a marshmallow and who doesn’t like marshmallows?”
Seungho smiles. “So I guess you like marshmallows?” He offers a hand out and Joon lets himself be yanked back into the pillows, against Seungho’s shoulder.
“Definitely,” Joon says firmly. “Because they have dark eye circles that turn me on and they don’t get mad at me when I steal their clothes to jack off or when I tell them they look like crap or when I invade their friend-dates or when I stalk them or when I ignore them when I play video games or when I leave them alone with a humongous, poisonous spider.”
“That’s all?” Seungho says, and their lips are already mere moments away.
“I think,” Joon says, one hand gripping the collar of Seungho’s shirt to pull him closer, “that they might be good-kissers, but I don’t really remember.” He grins against Seungho’s lips. “You should remind me.”
Seungho just smiles again.
In all honesty, Seungho doesn’t have any idea why he’s dating Joon. While Joon certainly has an abundance of loveable and attractive qualities, Seungho is sure that he can find better loveable and attractive qualities if he dates an armadillo because really, that’s about as loveable and attractive as Joon’s non-physical qualities get. In fact, Seungho suspects that the armadillo might even be more emotionally satisfying. The only drawback in dating the armadillo, Seungho thinks, would be that the sex would not be half as amazing. This, however, does not change the sad reality that an armadillo is more dateable than Joon.
So, yeah-he really doesn’t understand nor does he have any idea as to why he’s dating Joon.
But he’s really glad he is.
