Keaaanooooo

This has been sitting around in my computer for a month now! I still feel it’s important that I post it here tho :) I can't believe my last post was on may 10th!

Okay, so, Keane.

I’m going to write this one while I’m sitting at the Toronto airport because even though I am SO dead, well, there isn’t anything else to do. I’ll just post it later because obviously I don’t have internet here.

(deep breath)

Leah and me got to the venue around 10.30, where we met Deb, and sat on some stairs that were right by the door. We were first in line! I think that’s also a first for me, I always get early to venues but there are always a few people in front of me. We sat and waited for hours and hours that included constant trips to the washrooms located at the back of the venue. We saw the tourbuses more than once and some people from the crew. Deb actually saw Jesse and Richard, but that was it.

Soundcheck began around 3pm and we were glued to the door not only to hear better, but to get a bit of a view. We saw Tim and Tom for moments, and a lot of Richard. Not funny xhihi!

Around 6pm or so the real madness began. There were only a few people in line, considering the time, but the venue security had this weird barriers set up to make us line up. After they searched us they sent us inside to some sort of lounge thing where they just wanted to make us spend money on drinks and food, which doesn’t make sense. We tried our best and sorta managed to keep the order, and we kind of did because most of the people there were really willing to keep a fair order and just keep it cool. After a (LONG) while they let us In the actual place and we ran to the barrier. First row, to da left. Hell yeah.

It was a short wait until The Helio Sequence came out. I was so impressed because usually opening bands (to me at least) are rather boring, but these guys were really good. Plus their drummer was super fun to watch. Then it was Matt Kearney. I was honestly impressed with his songs and his band, but sometimes he sort of creeped me out. I don’t know why, I guess I’m weird like that. After that I was just SO tired after being there all day, plus the fact that I had been out around Toronto the day before. I tried to sit on the floor for a while to rest for a bit but these girls behind me kept being really rude, so in the end I just stood up and waited. It was funny hearing the same songs I heard while I was waiting in Monterrey, because even though it felt like a déjà vu, it also felt so much better than that day. I just had a feeling that things were so much better than they were in February. It was fun listening to Modern Love and all the songs I liked so much, up until the point when That’s not my name started playing. At that moment we started hanging the banner in the barrier so it was ready for when the show began.

And so it did! I really can’t express how much I liked this show. It is definitely the best Keane gig I have been to and it’s one of the best overall. The crowd was so much better than I expected, and I may dare to say it was quite the perfect crowd. They were really into the show, into the band, singing the songs and cheering, but they were not crazy in a bad way. There was not too much pushing or aggressiveness even when Tom came to the barrier! That is just new to me and it’s something I really appreciated.

I was a bit sad that they didn’t play My Shadow because I know I won’t see them again until they release another album, and tour my area again, but the fact that I got to hear one of my favourite songs from PS, Better than this, and Sunshine. Those were additions to the songs I had already heard so it was great. Plus the regular ones like YHTMA (!!! BEST SONG EVER), Spiralling and IIAW were really rocking and great. And what can I say about the banner? It was obvious that JQ loved it and it was really cool that he gave us the thumbs up and smiled at us really made the whole gig experience much better. It was great to finally get some JQ love!

The meet/greet thing was a bit of xfail, but I really don’t care. I had the best time in Toronto and I hope I can go back as soon as possible to see Leah and Deb again. I love you ladeeeez!
