Do you drive this course, or in Japan do you simply have to walk it? Are you going back at some point to get your license, or did you just write this entry while at the mall awaiting your return to the driving facility?

Of course you drive the course! The whole process takes at minimum two days. This day was just submitting the paperwork (which is no easy task). Many people get rejected at this stage for various BS reasons. The next time I go back, I have to drive the course, take a written test, go through an interview, and have an eye exam. If all that goes well, I'll get my license. Statistics say that only 35% of foreigners pass their Japanese driving test on the first attempt. I'd be amazed if I do.
