His martyrdom is not irrelevant, but also not problematic enough to consider this anything but a victory.

His band of crazies LOVE their symbols (to death, often literally) and he's spent the last decade symbolizing the inability of the 'Great Shaitan' to be touch the true leadership of their organizations.

We've got a new symbol now; it's not a magic solution and it's not going to fix everything overnight. We're still in Iraq and Afghanistan. We're still stuck and pouring money into the pit, but for all that, our opposition's biggest symbol has now been shot in the head and buried at sea.

(And the 'retaliation' that's coming is going to merely be 'rebranded' and possibly rushed/hurried versions of things they were going to do anyway.)

I'm not sure what the problem is. Obama just proved he's tougher on Terror than Bush ever could have been, since Bush led us to abject defeat in Iraq (the timetable for withdrawal was done with Bush). Obama won the war, since that was the original stated goal: kill bin Laden, establish democracy in Iraq and the Middle East, and be generally Awesome as Americans.

....

Ok, enough snarkiness. I'm glad to hear that he's finally put to rest. My expectation, honestly? This will mean that the disparate cells will indeed continue their terror tactics. They'll continue to plot. But they'll also likely start scalping both recruits and resources from the other cells. Without clear leadership, they'll inevitably fall to in-fighting over interpretations of Crazy, and what bin Laden's goals 'really' were. Without the head, even if it was just a symbolic figure-head, the snake will perish sooner than later.

Oh, yeah, forgot one other prediction. Bin Laden will start to supplant Hitler as the go-to insult name for 'censorship' and anything else whiny net-wienies want to call each other. :)
