[It's about 3 a.m.

Around this time, your sleep might be interrupted by loud crying. Off-screen there's some muffled grumbling, before Luke moves the Pokegear, and it shows that the crying seems to be coming from a Togepi. A newly hatched Togepi at that.

Luke's face shortly appears on-screen, and he looks very tired. Which makes sense, considering he ( Read more... )

Maybe it needs to be burped?

[Harry's own freshly-hatched Cyndaquil has cried a few times, but there's usually been a readily-apparent reason behind it.]

I could try that. I hope it just needs burped, because I really want to go back to sleep.

Could be it just wants attention, too.

[Poke-parenting, how do.]

I'll give him all the attention he wants if he'll just let me sleep a few more hours...

Have you tried rocking it?

I've tried picking it up a couple of times, but it only gets fussier.

What about singing? Babies like being sung to, don't they?

[THAT IS PRETTY MUCH ALL JACK KNOWS ON THE SUBJECT 8I]

When I get sad I like to be cuddled.

I've cuddled him a lot! I don't see why he needs cuddling at 3 in the morning!

[Normally he'd be more understanding, it is a baby after all, but Luke's incredibly tired and wants to sleep himself.]

I don't really want to bother the Professor. He's my Pokemon after all.

[Ugh, why was she awake this early?

Still, Hikari didn't usually have trouble getting to sleep, but now she was, so she was checking the gear and noticed Luke's plight.]

Did you try holding him?

Holding him? I'll see if that works...

[He goes to pick up the Togepi, and the moment he does it starts to wail louder.]

... My Togepi always loved being held. That's weird.

How much did you feed it?

I thought I fed him a lot, maybe he needs more...?

Try holding it and rocking it. Sometimes they can be really, really fussy when they first hatch. I know a couple of mine were like that, and a couple of others who were pretty similar. [The life of dealing with baby Pokémon constantly teaches this very quickly!]

O-okay, I'm going to try that. Much better then trying to change it's...egg...shell.

[Luke will reach down for the Togepi and try rocking it to sleep.

The moment he picks it up, the crying gets louder.]

Yeah, I'd be-- [And then he's interrupted by the louder crying, which makes him wince a little. So much for that theory.] Ge-geez. That guy's really got a set of lungs...

[Luke covers his own ears.]

He really does! I never thought something so small could be so loud!
