My family was able to get a microwave by about 1985... We didn't have the one Atari 2600 in our house, it was at my aunt's home and we had to go across town to play it.
I even remember having a radio (with no tape recorder built-in) and a tape deck (with no radio built-in) and laying the radio speaker-down on the tape deck to record songs from the radio onto tapes that bragged an amazing 40 Minutes of recording time. WOOHOO!
I remember my big sister's hairspray cans which released enough CFC's into the air to eat about 40 cubic feet of ozone.
I couldn't afford a CD player until late '94. I didn't get a portable CD player until I was about 25.
Kids have it WAY too easy... I know. I just finished X-Mess shopping, and they have much cooler toys that I ever had.
