What's the best way to clean the layers of dusty greasy sticky disgusting stuff that accumulates on pieces around your kitchen, especially around the stove? I need to deep clean my kitchen but that crap is on the window blinds, on jar lids, on my oven hood, etc.

I have no idea but this happens to me too. I don't know what the hell my husband does when he cooks but there is a layer of grease on everything. I noticed it on our light the other day. Dawn dish soap and water works great for things that can be washed like that, and Oxyclean and bleach kind of worked for our white curtains, but I'm at a loss with other stuff. I'd love to know how the hell to prevent it, too. The vent above our stove doesn't work, but my parents never had a vent above their stove and this never happened in their kitchen--my mom keeps a cleaner house than I do, but she certainly doesn't scrub the light fixture with dish soap.

I use Citra-solve.

I've had success with dampening a rag with undiluted white vinegar. It cuts right through the grease and kills the greasy smell to boot.

Wipe it off with a dry cloth after scrubbing.

A couple drops of eithrr mineral oil or vegetable oil on a paper towel. Seriously, it the gunk comes right off. Follow it up with a paper towel wipe down.

Seconding this! It seems counter-intuitive, but cleaning oil with oil works pretty well.

Most (not all) commercial cleaners contain petrolum products, which can, over a long term, take the shine off of you cabinet tops.

Here's a LINK which may give you some additional to the Vinegar, etc. :o)
