Okay, so they aren't like everywhere. All my windows are shut right now. I ended up buying one of these at Home Depot yesterday (for $399) which is working quite well at keeping my living room nice and cool

Potato plants and lavender are (supposedly) great to keep bug out - especially the stinging kind. If you have a green thumb I'd try planting those two in a wide container on the windowsill or outside the window so they reach up and cover part of the open window with their leaves and flowers.

Clove oil works against mosquitoes, lavender oil, and any kind of lemon scented oil are supposed to work, too, but I wonder how long they last when you just smear them on the window frame. I'd bet having the real plants there is better.

Yeah, all the windows have screens, but there are gaps between the frame and the screen these little fuckers can crawl/fly through.
