Antique wood freshening

Oct 26, 2014 16:36

I have an antique wood Hoosier cabinet that I'd like to clean up.

What can I use to wipe down and kind of wake up and refresh the wood? Something to clean and shine it up.

If it is wooden and not painted you can use Howard Feed N Wax. You can find it all over. It smells nice, too!!!!!!!!!!!

We just moved from the US to southern germany with all of our antiques and I couldn't bring my Howard's with us and I can't find it here so I'm totally missing the stuff. The stuff I find here all smells like magic marker. GAH!

It's finished in some manner - stained and lacquered maybe? I'm not familiar with wood finishes but I know it's not paint and it's some thing!

This page has some invaluable info on cleaning and what I think you mean by "freshening" wood. The section on cleaning is probably what you should stick with. Over coating isn't too difficult for someone who isn't familiar with wood finishing but a simple cleaning ought to be enough.
