Sweet Dreams
Nino had been awake for almost ten minutes now, unable to get the huge smile off of his face and ignoring the fact that he felt extremely girly. He buried his head into his pillow and laughed happily at the memory of the night before.
Bringing his fingertips to his mouth, he remembered the softness of Ohno’s lips and the taste of his tongue... then, he ran over the small cut on his bottom lip and stifled a laugh. They were both surprised that the overexcited nip had actually broken skin, not that it stopped them from continuing their kiss for several more minutes.
Nino rolled over and glanced at the clock that was nearing noon. He rarely ever slept in, but his guess was that all the pleasant dreams helped him actually relax for once. As he slowly rose out of bed, he started to wonder if last night had just been something he had imagined...
His eyes fell on his phone, a new mail blinking across the screen. Smiling to himself, Nino felt his stomach jump and he quickly opened the phone, expecting to see something from Ohno.
But his face fell when he realized it was from Aiba asking for one of the assignments from class. Ignoring the message, Nino decided to go take a shower.
Ohno leaned his head on the window of the car, watching the city go by in a blur as his eyelids started to get heavy. He closed his eyes and started to remember Nino.
He really wished he could remember the tiny details of the previous night, just to replay the scene over and over in his mind. But it was so unreal and seemed so quick that all he could recall were the touches and the tastes.
The car jolted slightly and Ohno was brought back to the real world as his eyes lifted open. In a daze, he took his portfolio off his lap and set it down next to him as he dug for his phone.
There was nothing from Nino and Ohno felt his spirits sink just a bit. He opened up a blank mail and paused before typing anything.
He scowled a bit, wondering what he should say, if he should say anything and why Nino hadn’t said anything to him. Was Nino embarrassed or suddenly unsure? Or was he mad because Ohno had bitten him?
Squeezing his eyes shut, Ohno forced away all the worrisome thoughts and tried to focus, but was interrupted by his mother.
"-and then we have dinner later tonight, okay? We’ll have to look at what you could wear." Ohno stared at his mother, looking back at him from the passenger seat. He blinked at her, wondering if she had been talking to him all this time.
"Right..." Ohno smiled slightly, knowing it would be best to just agree.
Once his mother turned back around to talk with his father, Ohno looked down at the phone and sighed before starting to type a message to Nino.
Nino was growing a little impatient. He knew that Ohno was probably busy eating or sleeping... or he just was too embarrassed to talk to him. Nino would stare at his phone off and on, each time expecting it to flash Ohno’s name. But it didn’t.
Finally, Nino grabbed his phone and was about to send Ohno a message when a new mail popped up on the screen... from Ohno. If he hadn’t been so surprised, Nino would have definitely found the timing incredibly amusing.
Steadying his excitement, Nino opened the mail and read it twice.
"You’re not angry, are you?"
"Angry?" Nino laughed to himself and quickly replied to Ohno.
"Why would I be angry?"
Ohno felt an embarrassed and relieved smile spread across his face as he read Nino’s reply.
"I did bite you..."
Nino smirked and absentmindedly ran his tongue across the bite as he responded.
"I told you I didn’t mind it! You’ll be sporting some marks yourself soon enough."
Ohno wasn’t quite sure how to take this message. On one hand, the thought was rather humourous, but on the other hand, he was a little nervous because he knew Nino was serious. Looking up to check that his parents were deep in conversation, Ohno quickly replied.
"...should I be nervous now, when we’re alone?"
Nino laughed out loud, imagining Ohno’s worried expression he knew he was wearing when typing this to him. He knew it probably wasn’t best to make Ohno more anxious than he already was, but Nino couldn’t help but to tease him.
"Yes."
Ohno never knew that one word would cause so much commotion in his body. In a slight loss for words, Ohno hesitated but soon found another message from Nino.
"Are you free today? Want to go someplace?"
Ohno smiled happily and accepted.
It wasn’t more than an hour later that Ohno found himself waiting outside one of the nearby aquariums that Nino had approved of. Rocking back on his feet, he looked up at the sky and sighed quietly. He knew Nino was often late... but fifteen minutes was a little unfair.
Mumbling under his breath, Ohno leaned against the railing and watched cars go back and forth in the parking lot. Then, Nino finally appeared and was walking hastily towards Ohno from the bus stop.
"You’re really, really late." Ohno said without a second thought. Nino smiled in apology and bowed his head so Ohno couldn’t see his shyness under the baseball cap.
"Sorry..." Nino mumbled, looking back up at Ohno with a smirk. Ohno pouted slightly until Nino moved closer and held out his hand.
Looking up at Nino, Ohno’s pout softened into a smile that almost matched Nino’s shy one and laced his fingers with Nino’s. Ohno heard Nino laugh nervously and then pull on their hands.
"This place, then?" Nino asked with a smile, pointing to the aquariums behind Ohno. He nodded and followed Nino into the line, waiting to get their tickets. Ohno was very pleased that walking hand in hand with Nino wasn’t awkward at all... it was calming and somewhat natural.
Despite them both having worries of how things would go after the night before, everything between them was back to normal, almost like before anything happened... with a bit more touching and sweeter words.
Though Nino really didn’t have any interest in aquariums or fish at all, he had chosen this place because he wanted to see Ohno’s face light up.
For the first ten times, it was cute and Nino couldn’t help but to smile and resist the urge to pinch Ohno’s cheeks as he stared at a huge fish swim by the glass.
But as they went on, Nino started to get bored and began to wander. Ohno didn’t know how long he had stood in front of the huge tank playing with a sea otter, but finally he noticed that he was alone. Pouting slightly, Ohno searched the dimly lit hall for Nino but only found other couples illuminated by the blue lights as they snuggled in front of the glass.
Giving the sea otter one last smile, Ohno started to walk around the corner by the jellyfish and crab tanks, ignoring the hypnotic like glow as he passed.
Rounding the corner, Ohno stopped and smirked slightly at the sight. Nino was standing in front of a tank with several kids, trailing his hand across the tank as a huge tropical fish followed his wiggling fingers.
The kids laughed and pressed their faces against the glass, tapping their fingers at the fish to get it’s attention. When the kids, and the fish, finally got tired of Nino, they scampered away, leaving Nino standing alone in front of the glowing light of the tank.
"Are you getting bored?" Ohno asked quietly as he walked up to Nino, bumping into his shoulder lightly. Nino smiled shyly and looked at Ohno’s soft features in the light.
"Ah... it was cute watching you for awhile..." he mumbled. Ohno laughed to himself and reached out for Nino’s hand, making the younger blush even in the blue light. Ohno and Nino walked closely along the side of the tank, making sure their hands never left each other.
While they were looking at the tanks of the lazy manatees, Ohno peered over to look at Nino and found him yawning widely.
"Kazu... dates aren’t supposed to be boring..." Ohno informed Nino, making him break out of his slight daze. Nino tilted his head to the side and frowned a bit.
"Date?" Ohno raised his brows curiously at Nino’s question.
"Well... isn’t this what this is?" Ohno asked, following behind Nino as he started to walk again. Nino faced Ohno and shrugged.
"Is it?" Nino asked, snickering at the confusion on Ohno’s face.
"I thought it was..." Ohno mumbled, suddenly a little unsure of what they were actually doing if it wasn’t a "date". Nino smirked and pulled Ohno near him.
"Oh-chan... don’t first dates come with kisses?" Nino teased. Ohno smiled, suddenly understanding what Nino was getting at and stepped closer to his side. Overcome by Nino’s bashful smile at their tender closeness, Ohno leaned in and placed a simple kiss on Nino’s lips. Quick to respond, Nino let his shyness wash away and instantly pulled Ohno in for another longer and deeper kiss.
Catching the next bus, the two headed back into town to their café they often visited, just in time to see the sunset over the city.
Hand in hand they walked into the café, receiving glances as they found a booth but the two couldn’t care less.
"Oh-chan? Tell me about that dream you had, the one you mentioned in the note." Nino said casually, pressing up against Ohno as they ate. Ohno paused with a mouth full of food and snickered to himself.
"I thought you were my stuffed kitty... that’s it really." Ohno mumbled. Nino laughed and looked at Ohno’s flushed cheeks.
"Ah... you totally made-out with a stuffed animal, didn’t you?" Nino teased evilly. While Nino laughed, Ohno focused on his food, trying anything to get the blush to stop burning.
"No... it’s just... kind of embarrassing..." Ohno mumbled into his bowl. Nino smiled and cleared his throat, slowly trailing his hand across Ohno’s thigh and letting it sit comfortably.
After pausing for a moment, watching Ohno for any signs of becoming nervous, Nino leaned his head closer to Ohno’s ear.
Ohno still didn’t show any signs of acknowledging Nino’s advances until he felt a chill go down his back as Nino whispered in his ear.
"Oh-chan?" Ohno looked over to Nino and smiled lightly.
"Hm?"
Ohno studied Nino’s face as it suddenly lost it’s playfulness and turned into something more serious. He knew something had entered Nino’s mind...
"Why... did you want to stop seeing me? I didn’t think much of it at the time because I was angry... but... what was the reason?" his voice was unsure and a small frown appeared on his face again. Ohno looked down at his food and swallowed, trying to piece his mind together.
"I was hurt when... I saw you with that girl... really, I wasn’t thinking much either when I wanted to do that." Ohno mumbled. He knew he totally sucked at lying and he knew Nino was sharp enough to always see through it.
So when Nino fell silent, concentration on his face, Ohno started to feel a little uneasy since he knew Nino was trying to find a hole in his lie. But instead, Nino just continued to talk.
"...during that time, I tried to think of a way to explain how I felt..." Nino began quietly, talking to the table rather than Ohno. But Ohno listened anyway, his eyes glued to Nino.
"I couldn’t really explain it myself, so when I was with Aiba-chan, he came up with a good analogy. He said he felt the same way without Sho-kun... "It’s like, sitting in a chair that you know has a back... and then, suddenly you lean back and the back of the chair disappears and you end up on the floor..."
Ohno would have definitely laughed at this thought if it wasn’t so strangely accurate. Nino lifted his eyes from the table to Ohno and smiled slightly.
"He could have just said it’s like being a lost dog... but-"
Ohno couldn’t let Nino finish, it was too sad to hear what he was feeling during that time, knowing he was the one who caused all of it. Ohno had kissed Nino quiet, in hopes of changing the subject to the present and how everything was perfect now.
But being in the booth in the back of the café, combined with the sudden force of Ohno, Nino was pushed backwards and thumped his head hard on the brick wall behind them. Mistaking Nino’s pained growl for excitement, Ohno found himself crawling on top of Nino.
As Nino ignored the pain on the back of his head, he gave into Ohno and tried to position himself under him but in the process he knocked the table with his knee, making the dishes clatter loudly. Finally remembering where they were, the two paused their make-out and looked at each other breathlessly. Nino started to laugh and Ohno followed along, gently crawling back off of Nino.
But it wasn’t for more than a few seconds until Nino had latched back on to Ohno’s lips.
Not knowing, or caring, about the giggles of the waitresses and female customers around them, the two were in their own world until they heard familiar laughing and a groan of disgust.
"...I hope you’re tipping your waitress extra for dealing with this." Ohno and Nino broke apart and looked up to find Sho, Aiba and Jun sitting across from them on the opposite side of their booth.
Aiba was grinning ear to ear and in a fit of giggles, Sho was acting like nothing was strange at all and Jun was leaned back with his arms crossed and looking anywhere besides Ohno and Nino.
"Why are you watching us?" Nino asked sharply, obviously angered that his session was interrupted.
"It’s hard not to! We just came in here to eat and see you two going at it!" Jun shot back.
"When did this happen!? Why didn’t you tell us!?" Aiba asked excitedly. Ohno and Nino blushed a bit and shrugged.
"Last night..." Ohno mumbled. While Jun and Aiba groaned and giggled loudly, Sho smiled happily.
"So... everything is okay now?" Sho asked curiously. Nino looked to his lap shyly and nodded and Ohno smiled at him in adoration.
It had been quite awhile since the five had been together and not get into heated arguments, so they decided to stay awhile and talk like they used to.
While Nino and Jun were going back and forth with harmless teasing about Nino thinking Ayako was dating Ohno, Sho couldn’t help but to look at Ohno, who had fallen a quiet once everyone began to talk. Even though he’d laugh along with everyone, Sho couldn’t help but to see something in his expression was a little sad.
Then, Ohno suddenly grabbed his phone, checked the time and jumped up.
"Ah, I’ve got to go, I’m sorry." Ohno said in a rush. Nino scowled a bit and stood up next to Ohno.
"What is it?" he asked. Ohno shook his head and smiled at Nino.
"I had something planned with my parents in about a hour... I don’t want to be late." he explained, putting down money for his part of the food.
"I thought you were free." Nino pouted.
"It was a last minute thing... I’m sorry." Ohno apologized. Nino stood awkwardly and nodded in understanding. Ohno leaned over and kissed the very tip of Nino’s nose before whispering "bye" and leaving the café with a wave and a smile.
Nino frowned as he stared at the door, a strange feeling bubbling up. He didn’t want Ohno to leave so suddenly... they didn’t even have time to walk home together and to tell each other goodnight.
"Nino! Details, details!" Aiba’s cheerful voice broke through his clouded mind and Nino slowly sat back down with his friends with a disappointed sigh.
