Chapter 27
Mapping the Stars
By the time Aiba and Sho arrived at school, it was already in a gossiping frenzy. Every group they walked past was chattering loudly about Ohno and Nino and if they were really dating or not. Apparently, from what Aiba and Sho heard, Nino and Ohno arrived together, hand in hand and in a world of their own.
When several girls approached the two, asking what why they were holding hands and such, Ohno and Nino just laughed, neither confirming or denying.
"Eh... it’s spread so fast." Aiba said quietly as he accompanied Sho to his locker.
"Of course it would. Don’t you remember what happened to us?" Sho asked in a bitter whisper. Aiba scowled a bit and looked around at the passing students.
"I wish you’d stop thinking about that..." Aiba pouted. Sho glanced at Aiba as he gathered his things from the floor.
"It’s kind of hard not to." Sho replied. Aiba frowned angrily and followed Sho’s quick pace until they reached the roof where they were met by a gathering of students, most likely waiting for the new pair to appear.
Sho and Aiba made their way through the crowd, earning curious stares and whispers of their own.
Aiba felt Sho pushing him quicker towards the door and didn’t let up until they both stumbled onto the roof. Jun, Ohno and Nino were in there usual spots and there were several other regular morning groups scattered as well. Aiba bounced over to them, dragging Sho behind him.
"There’s a huge crowd waiting for you! You’re like rock stars!" Aiba bubbled happily as he sat next to Ohno. Ohno and Nino looked at each other and snickered.
"But we didn’t do anything." Nino tried to say, hiding a smile.
"Yeah, you two did nothing at all." Jun scoffed, remembering their very public display of affection on the way to the roof that morning.
"Why tell everyone? It’s more fun this way, right Oh-chan?" Nino asked. Ohno, who wasn’t fully awake yet, nodded sleepily and leaned his head on Nino’s shoulder.
"See? Even he agrees." Nino beamed. Aiba suddenly grabbed Sho’s arm and jumped a little in excitement.
"Sho-chan-"
"No." Sho snapped before Aiba had a chance to say anything. Everyone looked at Sho and a discouraged Aiba, who slowly took his hands off Sho’s arm.
"Sorry... I didn’t mean to snap... but really, it wouldn’t work for us." Sho apologized.
"It’s really your own fault, Sho-kun. What’d you say when everyone surrounded Aiba when they found that note? "Masaki has no feelings towards me, it is all one-sided on my part." You said that, right?" Nino asked curiously.
"In front of half the school too." Jun added. Sho glared at them both and Aiba quickly jumped in.
"But it was super sweet! He took the fall for me even though I wrote the note!" Aiba grinned, obviously protecting Sho. Nino and Jun mumbled and Sho pouted. The morning bell saved Sho from anymore teasing and they all stood up to go to class. Nino wrapped his arm around a sleepy Ohno, letting his head rest on Nino’s shoulder and walked along with no cares.
Jun followed after them, watching the faces of the students that stared. Aiba and Sho brought up the rear, walking close but not touching. Aiba steadily made his way closer to Sho, reaching out his fingers to hold on to the hem of Sho’s shirt.
Sho felt Aiba’s soft tug and looked over at his seemingly innocent face.
"Masaki..." Sho knew that they wouldn’t be noticed at all when Ohno and Nino were making their own show up at the front, but still he felt rather uncomfortable. Aiba dropped his hold and walked at a quicker pace towards his classroom, leaving Sho behind.
"If you keep messing around, he’s going to end it again." Jun said suddenly, walking next to Sho. Sho ignored Jun and kept walking, listening to the students around him chatter about Ohno and Nino as they passed.
Soon enough, Ohno and Nino came to the point in the hallway where they had to go different ways. They said good-bye, resisting the urge to kiss since there were teachers around, and slowly parted, Sho following Ohno and Jun following Nino.
"Is that why you stomped past us this morning?" Nino asked Aiba during their afternoon science class. Aiba laid his head on the table, looking up at Nino and Jun’s curious stares.
"He wouldn’t even let me touch him... no one would have paid attention anyway, they were all looking at you and Ohno-kun..." Aiba mumbled. Nino smirked smugly and Jun rolled his eyes.
"Didn’t he say he was going to at least try?" Jun asked. Aiba nodded and turned his head towards the window.
"I don’t really care anymore... at least we’re together again." Nino was about to respond, but the teacher loudly scolded them for the second time during his lecture. Jun and Nino turned back in their seats and Aiba sat up again and tried to focus. The teacher proceeded his lesson and then announced a final project.
"Since this school year is almost over, we’re going to be having a final project for all the science classes in your grade. It is individual work, but you may partner up if you wish." he explained as the class softly groaned and passed out the papers explaining the project in detail.
"Stars? Why stars?" Jun grumbled, looking over the paper with Aiba and Nino.
"Because he had to choose something that takes up all our free time. Don’t you know how teachers work yet?" Nino replied, slapping his paper down on the desk. Aiba leaned forward and grabbed both of their shoulders.
"Sho-chan and Ohno-kun can go with us!" he said excitedly.
"Ugh... then I’m not pairing up with you." Jun mumbled.
"Why not?"
"Because while you and Sho are too busy cuddling underneath the stars, I’ll be the only one doing the actual work." Jun replied. Aiba sulked and Nino patted his shoulder.
"Sho-kun will help you a lot, Aiba-chan... I’m not pairing with Jun anyway, so don’t feel left out." Nino smirked at Jun’s glare.
"I don’t want to be with you and Ohno. You’ll be worse than Sho and Aiba." Jun huffed.
The rest of the week proceeded slowly, but the whole school was still alive with the Ohno and Nino gossip. The two kept their mouths shut and simply smiled, enjoying all the havoc they seemed to have caused in everyone’s brains. But while Ohno and Nino laughed at the whispers and stares, Sho and Aiba could only watch.
Aiba had tried to reason with Sho one day at lunch, asking him to at least let him rest in his lap as he ate. Sho, of course, refused and caused Aiba to once again, give him the cold shoulder. Nino and Ohno went to visit Sho after school one day, just to talk with him.
"He just wants to be with you. You know he’s working extremely hard to make you happy." Nino said as he and Ohno sat on the floor of Sho’s room.
"I know..." Sho mumbled, trying to continue his homework. Ohno shifted a bit under Nino as he tried to sit in his lap.
"He loves you a lot... really you shouldn’t care about anyone else." Ohno said, still moving around to situate Nino.
"Yeah, look at me and Oh-chan. We don’t have any shame left and it’s fun." Nino smiled, running his hand through Ohno’s hair. Sho glanced at them and strained a smile at the sickly sweet picture.
"Obviously..." he mumbled again, going back to his work. Nino scowled and threw a nearby pillow at Sho’s head.
"What’s wrong with you?" Nino demanded, matching Sho’s glare. Ohno looked between them nervously, knowing he was literally trapped in the middle.
"Maybe I don’t like showing affection in public!" Sho exclaimed. Nino nodded thoughtfully, still running his hand through Ohno’s hair.
"I think this is a case of Sho-kun not being comfortable with Sho-kun." Nino said with a nod.
"When did you become a therapist?" Sho snapped. Nino shrugged and looked up at Ohno, starting to get a little sleepy.
"Oh-chan made me think long and hard about some things. I guess it was kind of like... personal therapy?" Nino smiled.
"Ugh..." Sho groaned, dropping his head on his desk and giving up on finishing his homework.
"Don’t doubt my love. If you listen to me, you and Aiba could be doing this anywhere." Nino said with a smirk. Sho looked a clearly uncomfortable Ohno with a very pleased Nino in his lap and wrinkled his nose.
"The only reason you can do that is because Ohno’s a doormat." Sho grumbled. Nino’s hand froze in Ohno’s hair and he glared at Sho.
"Hey, I’m not..." Ohno pouted. Nino crawled off Ohno and stood up, holding his hand out for Ohno.
"Let’s go, Oh-chan. We’re not wanted here." Nino said as he pulled Ohno up off the floor and put his arm around his waist. Sho didn’t stop the two from leaving, he was glad to finally get some quiet. But he was far from happy.
He looked at his reflection in his computer’s screensaver and scowled.
"Sho-kun... not being comfortable with Sho-kun..." he found himself mumbling. Maybe it was true. Maybe he wasn’t comfortable with himself... and maybe he was tired of it. Sho sighed and stood up, not entirely thinking through what he was going to do.
Aiba stared blankly at a star sheet that his teacher passed out earlier that day. He was starting to get sleepy and once or twice, his head drooped quickly, making him jolt awake before his head hit the desk again.
Downstairs, he heard the doorbell ring, but didn’t think anything about it since he heard his brother answer it. But soon enough, his brother came bursting into Aiba’s room, making him jump awake.
"Sho-kun is at the door, he looks kind of freaked out." he told Aiba.
"He is? You better not be tricking me like last time..." Aiba grumbled, pulling on a nearby shirt and brushing past his brother. Aiba hopped down the stairs, not really sure why he was in such a eager mood to see Sho.
He slowed his pace when he saw Sho standing nervously in the entryway.
"It’s late, Sho-chan." Aiba said dully.
"I’m sorry... could we... talk?" Sho said slowly and softly. Aiba had always heard that when someone you were dating wanted to "talk", good things never came out of it. But he followed Sho out onto the dark front porch anyway and shut the door firmly behind him.
When he turned around, Sho was very close and very nervous.
"Okay, just let me talk and get everything out and then you can talk, okay?" Sho asked nervously, swallowing several times and his brows in a deep scowl. Aiba simply nodded, growing worried himself and leaned against the wall.
Sho took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
"I like you a lot, and you know this. And you know that I am most comfortable with showing you how I feel just... privately. And I know that, that bothers you because you want to express it anywhere... so, Nino gave me some advice. He somehow made me realize that it wasn’t publicly displaying my feelings that I had a problem with... it was with myself." Sho took another deep breath and stared at Aiba’s slightly confused expression.
"Um, what I’m trying to say is that... I’ve been too worried about myself when what mattered was us. Do you understand?" Sho asked softly. Aiba covered his mouth to hide his smile and shook his head no.
"Sho-chan... I’m a little confused." Aiba admitted. Sho took a moment to think and then looked right at Aiba.
"I don’t care anymore." Sho said with a little smile.
"...eh?"
Sho laughed a little, took a step forward and kissed Aiba, taking him by surprise. It took a few moments for Aiba to respond and when he did, he started to laugh into Sho’s mouth.
Sho pulled away a bit and let Aiba have his laughing fit.
"I’m so happy!" he gasped breathlessly, holding onto Sho for support. Sho laughed with him and hugged him again.
"I’m sorry, okay? It’ll be different now." Sho said sincerely. Aiba grinned at Sho and grabbed his hand.
"Okay! Let’s go tell my parents first! They’ll be super happy!" Aiba exclaimed, making a grab towards the handle. Sho panicked and pulled Aiba away.
"No! Ah, Masaki... let’s just go slow... okay?" Sho pleaded. Aiba nodded again before pulling Sho into another tight hug and covering him in kisses.

And of course, as in real life, ohmiya is messing with everyone's minds <3
Unfortunately, I wont be able to update until next weekend D: I'm going to be out of town preparing for school in August, so I won't be around :(
So! Chapter 28! Sakuraiba finds their comfort zone, Nino notices something about Ohno and they have a little talk about graduation. Also, by the end of this chapter, you should have an idea of what Ohno's secret is, if you don't already~
