rather short con report this time around, seeing as greymountain and i had a wedding to attend on the saturday of the convention.

friday morning, woke up early, and tried to get my kakurenbo bandages done. an hour and a half later, with only one forearm half-done, decided to give up and relax for the weekend. realizing my t-shirt for the costume hadn't been washed, and that the mask still needed a new elastic helped to cement that decision. got my hair cut, and met up with kayoko_chan in line for the dealer's room. got in early because we ordered our tickets online, and bought pretty much everything i'd buy that weekend. caught up with greymountain, astrael_nyx and sciel following the initial dealer's room run. no interesting panels going on (i guess all the planning went into the video games live concert) so spent the remainder of the afternoon wandering in and out of the dealer's room, and hanging out in the seating area reading manga. snagged anisky0703 and went to dinner, then called it a night.

sunday morning, slept in a little due to the aforementioned wedding, and decided once again to not cosplay (quite sadly). got in just after noon, and did pretty much the same thing we did on sunday, with the addition of meeting up with bishie_doll. picked up some wicked fma prints in the artist's alley - 4 of the 7 homunculi (unfortunately, the artist didn't have time to finish the last three, including my favourite - greed) dinner this time was an excellent sukiyaki-centered meal at ematei.

i think the more fragmented and far-reaching fx becomes (with the addition of the gaming expo last year, and the horror expo the year before that), it offers less and less for the individual fan, if said fan is not interested in all of the fandoms represented at the convention. unfortunately, this means that it's becoming harder and harder to justify the expense of attending the convention, which has the better masquerade of the two major toronto anime cons, imo (the other con being anime north, of course). it would have been nice to see a few more non-voice actor interview/q&a/autograph session panels for the anime portion of the con.

i suppose my outlook would be a little better if i had been able to attend the masquerade, the amv competition, or check out the all-night-anime/karaoke. i'll be giving it at least one more chance, and reassessing next year.

so, how is it that 5 people can sit around a fairly mediocre convention doing not much more than reading manga and playing ds, and not go insane? the answer is simple. camera whoring.

25 days until the play! video game symphony.
