Chapter Twelve:
At dawn, the members of One Day headed for the base. Their plan was to act as if they were returning to it, as if nothing was wrong. While T.O.P, Seungho, Doojoon, and Rain stood watch with their teams at the four roads leading into the town, the others were busy trying to start their daily routines.
“I’ll be home early tonight,” Siwon said, pecking Yesung on his lips. “Give Kibummie a hug for me when he wakes up.”
“I will. Maybe I’ll bring him by the clinic around lunchtime for a visit,” Yesung replied, smiling at Siwon’s face lighting up at the thought.
“I’d like that.” After another kiss, he climbed into his car and headed for work. Yesung went back inside, laughing at Eunhyuk and Donghae sleeping on the couch. He rolled his eyes, walking into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for his friends and son. When Eunhyuk’s phone rang, Donghae was the one who answered it.
“Hello?” he mumbled, still half asleep.
“Want to bring little Kibum over for a play date with Yoon-Yong kids?” Jinki asked. “Key wants to meet Kibummie.”
“I’ll go ask Yesung.” He pulled the phone away from his ear and shouted toward the kitchen. “Yah, Yesung hyung! Jinki wants to know if Eunhyuk and I can take Kibum over to Doojoon’s for a play date.”
“I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to. It’d give me and Siwon some privacy when he gets home.”
Donghae placed the phone back to his ear. “We’ll be over after Kibum wakes up and has breakfast. See you then, Jinki.”
“Okay. See you later, hyung.”
Eunhyuk laughed, rolling over and hugging Donghae. “Why did you answer my phone?”
“You were sleeping.” He looked over and kissed Eunhyuk before laying his head back down. “You take up a lot of space, babe.”
So why don’t you-”
“Not in my house!” Yesung shouted from the kitchen. “Go to your own place for that!” Eunhyuk and Donghae laughed, getting up and joining Yesung in the kitchen.
“Yah, why so much food?”
“So our friends on duty won’t starve. I’m making it now so that it’ll be done by lunchtime. One of the Five Treasures will be taking them lunch.”
“How long is this supposed to last?” Eunhyuk sat down in one of the chairs, pulling Donghae to sit on his lap. He wound his arms around the younger, leaning his head onto his shoulder.
The eldest shrugged. “I don’t know. As long as it has to, I suppose. It could be over today or next week. I don’t really know.”
“A week?” Donghae sighed.
“Who knows?”
“Umma!” Kibum squealed, running into the kitchen. He pulled on the hem of Yesung’s shirt, wanting to be picked up. He giggled as Yesung scooped him up and placed him onto the counter. “Umma, good morning!” He turned to the other two. “Good morning, hyungs!”
“Good morning, Kibum. Are you hungry?” After eating, Yesung waved as Donghae and Eunhyuk got Kibum into their car and drove off toward Doojoon’s house. He smiled, knowing how lucky he was to have his friends.
As they reached the Yoon-Yong residence, Kibum squealed again, seeing Jinkyong and Yongsook running around the front yard with Taemin, Jinki, and Key. He unbuckled as soon as the car stopped, bouncing up and down as he waited for one of them to open the door. As soon as Eunhyuk opened the car door, he dashed out.
“Hi, Kibum!” Jinkyong greeted him, giving him a hug. After a second of hesitating, Yongsook hugged him too. Key stayed by Jinki and Taemin. “Want to meet Key?” He nodded furiously. laughing, she led him over to where Key stood, hiding behind Jinki’s leg. “Key, this is Kibum.”
“Hello,” Key squeaked quietly. He still clung to Jinki’s pant leg.
“Hi! I’m Kibum!” Kibum said. He held out his hand. “Nice to meet you!” He smiled.
“Key, why are you being so shy?” Jinki asked, trying to pry his son’s hands off. Succeeding in his task, he sighed when Key ran up the porch steps and latched onto Minho.
“Does he not like me?”
Seeing the pout on Kibum’s face, Taemin knelt and patted his head. “He’s only shy around people he likes. After Jinki hyung and Minho hyung started dating, Key wouldn’t even look at Minho hyung. But as you can see, Key fled to him.” At Taemin’s words, Kibum smiled.
“So, he likes me?”
“Most likely.”
“Yay!” Kibum ran up the front porch stairs and nearly tackled Key. “We’re going to be best friends, Key!” Everyone laughed when Key’s face turned pink and he hugged Kibum back.
“I miss Jinkyong and Yongsook,” Junhyung grumbled. It was almost noon and he was grouchy from lack of sleep and nutrition.
“They’re fine, Junnie. I promise that they’re in good hands,” Doojoon said, trying to sooth his husband.
“I know they’re safe, but I still miss them.”
“It’s only been about six hours since we got here,” Yoseob reminded him. He was sitting on Kikwang’s lap. “Chill out, hyung.”
“Yeah, what he said,” Hyunseung agreed. “Just be happy that you’re with Doojoon and keep your mouth shut.”
“A bit grumpy, Seung?” Junhyung laughed when the elder stuck his tongue out at him.
“Come on, hyung,” Dongwoon said to Hyunseung. “Let’s go sit in the shade for a little bit.” He and Hyunseung walked over and sat in the shade of the trees. Although they had walked over together, they sat almost two feet apart as if they couldn’t stand to be near each other.
“Did they fight?” Doojoon stared at his friends worriedly.
“No, they’re just mad that they aren’t with Jiyong and Mir,” Kikwang explained. He pecked Yoseob on the cheek. “I’m just glad we’re together for this crap.”
“Yah, rescuing our friends isn’t crap!” Doojoon glared at the younger. “We rescued Junnie last year. Are you calling that crap?”
“Is rescuing Jonghun and his boys crap? Or maybe it was rescuing Jinki and his friends?” Junhyung was standing in front of Kikwang and Yoseob, Doojoon beside him. Both were angry at Kikwang’s misunderstood words.
“I wasn’t saying that rescuing them was crap! I was just saying that us being out here is crap!”
“Then go home.” Doojoon walked back to his previous spot and sat down. “If you want to let intruders into our home, then leave. We aren’t out here to play around. We’re here to keep watch.”
“We’re staying put. Nobody’s going to get through us.”
Jiyong sighed, staring at his phone’s wallpaper. It was a picture of him and Hyunseung from two days ago. “I wish I could have gone with my Seungie,” he whined. He looked over at the two couples in their own little worlds. He felt like a dreary cloud was hanging above him. He narrowed his eyes at Daesung and Seungri laughing together.
“Yah, let’s play a game!” Taeyang called to them all. He waved them all over, Jiyong smiling slightly as he was welcomed into it as well. “Truth or dare, Seungri?”
“Dare!” Seungri hollered, grinning as Taeyang thought of something good. T.O.P whispered something into his ear and he grinned. “I dare you to walk around town when we get back with your hands in Daesung’s back pockets.”
“Deal!” The youngest smiled and called out T.O.P’s name. it went back and forth for about an hour, Jiyong being unintentionally excluded. He sighed again, scooting away from the two couples as they continued the game.
“I want my Seungie.” He sat down in the shade of a tree, wishing to be at the west entrance of Lakeside. He opened his phone, planning to text Hyunseung, but flipped through his pictures on it instead. He smiled at the one he had of them last night. Hyunseung had just gotten out of the shower, a towel loosely hung around his hips and hair dripping with water.
“Yah, Jiyong hyung!” Daesung hollered over at him. “Are you not playing?”
Jiyong shook his head. “I don’t feel up to it…”
“Are you feeling sick?” T.O.P asked worriedly.
“No, I just have some things on my mind.”
“What kind of things? You aren’t having second thoughts about marrying Hyunseung in a few days, are you?”
“I am think about that, but I’m not second guessing myself on it.” He looked over at his friends. “As soon as this is over and we have our friends back, I’m going to ask him if we can get married tomorrow. I don’t want to wait for next week. Life is too short for waiting around.”
After hearing his declaration, the others joined Jiyong in the shade, discussing what they could do to help make the wedding tomorrow instead of next week. They were all thankful that nobody outside their town would be attending and that it would make switching the date easier.
Mir felt like ripping out his hair. He glared over at Joon and Cheondoong, walking leisurely in the shade. Shifting his eyes to the right, he glared at Seungho and G.O, who were laughing at some random memories of their school days. He used a twig to write in the dirt, hoping it would pass time. Unfortunately, it made him want to beat the other four with it so he threw it behind him after a few moments.
“…the music was so whack!” Seungho laughed.
“Nobody uses that words anymore, Seungho!” Mir shouted at him, his frustration almost too much for him to contain.
The eldest rolled his eyes and went back to speaking to G.O. “So, the music was totally awful and I wanted to throw food at the musician. I was bored out of my mind and…”
Mir tuned them out, wishing himself to be anywhere but here. He already missed Dongwoon in the six hours they’ve been apart. He pouted at the thought. Has it really been six hours, he thought to himself. Sighing, he leaned back, allowing himself to lay flat on the ground and stare up at the clouds.
“Are you having fun right now, Woonie?”
“Yah, Mir! Come help hoist Joon into this tree! I can’t pull him up by myself!” Cheondoong hollered over at him. He mumbled something too low for the other to hear and got up, stomping over and pushing Joon into the tree. He stomped back to his spot and sat down.
“What’s with the attitude, Mir?” Joon asked, shouting from his perch in the tree.
“I hope you fall and break something!” Mir replied angrily. He glared up at the clouds, wishing for the stupid mission to be done with so he could see Dongwoon.
Seungho and G.O crept over to Joon and Cheondoong. “Why is Mir having a hissy fit?” G.O asked in a whisper.
“I don’t know. Maybe he’s having Dongwoon withdrawals.” The four glanced over at the youngest and noticed him glaring upward. They sighed and decided to stay away from him for a little while.
Leeteuk pouted against a nearby boulder. There was no shade and Kangin was being his normal, cruel self. Hankyung and Heechul were laughing together at one of Rain’s jokes while he and Kangin sat five feet apart. He would glance over at him every few minutes, trying to gauge the younger’s mood.
“Stop looking at me, Teuk,” Kangin growled after the umpteenth time he caught the elder gazing at him. “You’re starting to bug me.”
“Well, if you weren’t being a jackass, you wouldn’t have that problem,” Leeteuk replied sharply. He stood and walked over to where the others sat, determined to get away from Kangin and his bad mood. He didn’t count on the other stopping him partway. “Let go, Kangin.”
“Why the hell do you insist to be beside me? I tried everything I could to make you hate me, but you are too persistent on being attached to my side!”
“It’s what happens when someone is in love! They’re able to accept the person they love for who they are! Every mistake, every heartbreak, every accomplishment. They accept everything! Why can’t you see that I’m in love with you?!” Leeteuk tried to pry his arm loose from the younger, but failed.
“Teuk…?” Kangin could only stare. Angry tears ran down the elder’s face as he had shouted his confession. Had he been stupid enough to not notice Leeteuk’s feelings? “Teuk, are you okay?”
“Let go, Kangin.” He furiously tried to wipe away his tears, but they kept flowing from his eyes in a torrent. When Kangin made no move to release him, Leeteuk sighed. “Kangin, let go of-”
His eyes widened as Kangin’s kiss silenced him. They slowly closed as Kangin wrapped his arms around him and pulled him closer. Hankyung, Heechul, and Rain could only stare in awe as Kangin finally gave into his subconscious feelings. When he pulled away, he grabbed Leeteuk’s face gently in his hands.
“I want you to know that what I treasure and love the most is what is between my hands right now.” Leeteuk smiled, throwing his arms around Kangin’s neck and hugging him tightly.
“You have no idea how happy you have made me with those simple words…” Kangin hugged him back just as tightly as the elder hugged him.
