Chapter One:
“Yah, Kyuhyun, will you go collect everyone’s laundry? Ryeowook wants to get it all washed before he sleeps tonight,” Yesung shouted from the living room. He was stretched out on the couch, television remote in his hand as he flipped through the channels, trying to find something to watch.
“Kyuhyun, come help me set the table!” Donghae said, attempting to juggle fifteen plates.
“In a minute, Donghae hyung. I need to go get everyone’s laundry,” Kyuhyun replied. He went into the large entrance hall. The chandelier that was fixated into the center of the ceiling was dimly lit for it being mid-afternoon. Kyuhyun walked up the stairs, going to the room he shared with one of the foreigners.
It was strange to him, really. They were all practically forced to live in the same mansion thanks to their parents. Their parents all worked at the same company, all being killed in the same plan crash. The pilot, who was also the eldest’s father, was hijacked by the parents of the youngest. Kyuhyun sighed, realizing again that it was the very reason why Henry was treated so badly by a few of the others. He opened the door to the room he shared with the poor kid, smiling when Henry turned and looked up at him with a bright smile.
“Hi, hyung!” Henry sang, turning back to the sheet music before him. “Zhoumi hyung said that if I do well on my next performance that he’s going to invest in getting me a new violin! Isn’t that great, hyung?”
Kyuhyun nodded, patting the younger on the head. “Yeah, it is. How have Heechul hyung and Kangin hyung been treating you today?”
Henry’s smile disappeared as he trailed his fingers to the knot on the back of his head. “They haven’t been too mean today. I wish they’d at least make sure that none of the bruises show since I still have a few months of school to finish, but other than that, everything’s fine.”
Kyuhyun frowned, turning and forgetting about the laundry for the time being and stomping across the large building to Kangin, Donghae, and Yesung’s room. He pounded on the door, opening it to find Kangin had pinned the house pet, a dog named Memento that they agreed on getting after their parents died, to the floor as they wrestled.
“Hyung, I know Memento is a large dog and that he likes playing rough, but must you really wrestle like that with him? You’re going to end up hurting him.” Kyuhyun went and shoved Kangin off of the dog, Memento licking a path across his face before racing from the room.
“Yah, get over here,” Kangin ordered, his tone making the younger freeze. When Kyuhyun didn’t move, Kangin grabbed his arm and roughly pushed him to the wall. “Apologize for shoving me.”
“You shouldn’t have done that.”
Kyuhyun closed his eyes, inhaling deeply before he braced himself. “Hyung, help me!” he shouted, hearing footsteps and Memento barking crazily as he led to way. Shindong and Sungmin rushed into the room, pulling Kangin away from the younger before he could take a swing. Memento barked before he growled at Kangin and stood in front of Kyuhyun in a protective way.
Henry peeked into the room after the ruckus calmed down and grabbed the laundry basket Kyuhyun had discarded. He scurried off to give it to Ryeowook soon after. Kyuhyun exhaled in relief that he wasn't going to die in the next minute. "Thanks, hyungs." He said and patted the dog. Kangin merely scoffed and broke away from Shindong and Sungmin to sit on his bed, kicking the laundry messily over towards Kyuhyun. "Yah, anyone seen my hair dye that I had on the sink?" An annoyed Heechul spoke as he came downstairs, his voice carrying to everyone on the floor. Kyuhyun paled. Henry had been messing around in the bathroom earlier.
Said mochi paled and locked him and Ryeowook into the laundry room and cut off the lights. "Um... Henli?" Ryeowook questioned, yelping as Henry made a shh sound. "I accidentally knocked over Heechul Hyung's dye this morning. I tripped trying to put my pants on and it spilled so I washed it down the sink and hid the bottle with what was left in the trash. Please hyung please take the blame. I can't go to school with any more marks. They're asking questions already!" He begged the eternal maknae.
Outside the door, one very angry Heechul dug his nails into the palm of his hand.
Yesung got annoyed with the noise and took his turtle to let him play outside. He lay on the grass and watched the tiny creature walk around. The sound of the nearby ocean was calming compared to inside. He noted Kibum nearby reading. He didn't blame him. Waking up to the arguing was like waking up with fourteen hangovers. He distantly heard laughing and wondered if the house down the beach had been moved in to again. He wouldn't be surprised.
The laughter got annoying after a bit and he stood, taking his turtle in his hand. “Noisy neighbors.” He muttered as a young boy ran down the beach nearby. "Yah! Jonghyun hyung nuuuuuuu Jellyfish are gross." He squeaked.
“Come on, Taemin! Just let me get a picture of you wearing it like a hat!” Jonghyun replied, chasing the younger toward the water. Taemin changed directions, running toward the empty house that separated the one he lived in with the others that dwelled this land. He ran onto the back porch of the house, opening the unlocked door and rushing in. Jonghyun chased him, both running out the front door.
“Hyung, stop chasing me!” He jumped over the railing on the front porch, landing loudly and causing the person standing on the porch next door to look over. Hearing Jonghyun behind him still, Taemin tried to rush to the vacant house across the street and down a little ways, stopping when he heard a car radio.
“Taemin, get out of the road!” Jonghyun dropped the jellyfish and covered his eyes. He didn’t want to see the younger hit by the car zooming toward him. He heard the tires squeal, metal crunching as it collided with a light post. He looked up, color draining from his face before he fell to his knees when he saw that Taemin was okay.
The driver climbed out of his car, a small cut on his forehead and blood trickling down. The passenger got out as well, his legs shaky. The driver glared at the two on the ground. “Kangin, what the hell are you doing jumping in front of me like that?!” Hankyung shouted at him.
Kangin stood up, ignoring the gash he received from diving into the road. He glared back at the elder, his eyes hard. “Hyung, if you hadn’t been lip locking with Siwon you’d have noticed this stupid kid in the road! How many times has Teuk warned the two of you to not do that while you’re driving? You almost killed someone this time!”
Siwon looked between the fighting two before walking over and dropping down beside Taemin. The younger was curled into a ball, tears flowing from his eyes from fear and his whole body trembling. “Yah, are you okay?” Siwon asked him, reaching out and shaking him gently. Hearing the crash, the inhabitants of both homes had accumulated on their porches. Onew had paled at seeing Taemin nearly hit and had fainted, Key trying to fan him back to consciousness.
Minho sighed, walking to where Taemin lay and pulled him into a sitting position. “Taemin, come on. You’re not hurt so get up,” he said. He had to pry the younger’s hands away from his face before he sighed and helped him to his feet. “You’re okay, Taemin.” Minho stopped by Kangin and bowed to him slightly. “Thanks for making sure he didn’t get hit. He should have been more careful and not run into the road.”
Kangin simply nodded before going to Hankyung’s car and slamming the door. He carefully parked it in front of the house before he turned the engine off and got out. He tossed the keys at Leeteuk, who caught them and pocketed them instantly, shaking his head in disappointment at Hankyung and Siwon.
“Neither of you drive anywhere for a week,” he said, causing the both of them to voice complaints. He turned and gave them a look that would intimidate even Kangin. “No driving. If you go anywhere, it’s without each other and you’ll be in the backseat by yourself. That’s final.” Leeteuk turned and headed into the house, ruffling his hair in aggravation.
Hankyung and Siwon stood rather awkwardly in the road as the newly awakened Onew glared at them. "Aish, we move here and of all people our neighbors are reckless gays." He said harshly, leading the still crying Taemin towards their home. Hankyung shot him a death glare, swearing in Chinese and had to be lead away by Siwon.
Down the road a ways, Kim Jaejoong sat on a picnic table near his home with his camera to his eyes. He saw the near accident and quite clearly. He was looking through his photos when Yuchun walked up to him. "What was the noise?" He asked, looking over Jae's shoulder. The pictures were clear enough to see Taemin running, the jellyfish in Jonghyun's hand, and even SiHan kissing in the car. "Aish, what kind of retards are they. Almost hit a kid." Jaejoong mumbled, showing Yuchun as he slid off the table. "I think that's why Yunho likes us to keep to ourselves. That and he doesn't like that you and Susu hit Changmin. Not to mention he caught you with your tongue down the boy's throat." He added. Yuchun frowned. "He saw that?" At Jaejoong's nod, he pouted and handed him his camera back.
Taking said camera, Jaejoong headed back inside as a bark pulled Yuchun's attention. He frowned at the dog running towards him. It didn't stop until it was near his feet. It seemed to want to play.
Watching from one of the nearby houses, a boy pulled the curtains closed and sighed. Hyungs are all at the beach right now. They'd have a fit if they knew I went outside so I guess I missed my chance to make friends, he thought, smiling bitterly at the memory of SiHan's linked hands... or Onew's protective embrace of Taemin.
He heard his hyungs laughing, their voices carrying up to him as they all paraded upstairs. He sighed as he took his seat on his bed, facing the wall as they entered his room. They all sprawled out across his bed, their bodies wrapped in towels as they all looked at him.
“How are you feeling, baby Hyungjun?” Youngsaeng asked, reaching over and patting the back of the maknae’s hand.
Hyungjun offered him a small smile. “I’m doing better than I have been.”
“We’re going back outside, okay?” Kyujong stated more than asked. He smiled and patted the younger’s head. “Get some more rest. Us moving here must have been hard on you.”
Hyungjun wanted to protest, but he waited for his hyungs to leave before he pouted. He tried pouting to them once about not being able to go outside with them and it caused them to be grumpy since they stayed inside with him. He eventually talked them into going back outside and just leaving him inside, but he had to admit…it was lonely.
At the DBSK home, Yuchun petted the fluffy husky looking dog. It nudged his legs, wanting him to chase after him. He did, laughing as the dog would turn and nip at him, only to land him on his butt when he'd miss trying to catch it. He lay on the ground, laughing, tired out. Soon though, he heard a soft gasping sound and looked up to see a young boy looking at him. "You found him, thanks." He said reaching out to Memento's collar, latching the leash on.
Yuchun sat up. "That's your dog? We just moved here. Was that some of your people who nearly wrecked?" Yuchun asked curiously. "Yes, sort of, okay, and yes unfortunately. I'm Ryeowook. This is Memento... and you're sitting in fire ants. Bye!" Ryeowook said running off, giggling, with Memento in toe.
Still shaken, Taemin sat on the couch with a pouting Jonghyun. "I didn't mean to put you in danger, maknae. I just wanted you to wear the jelly fish." He said. Taemin glared. "It was dead. You shouldn't be disrespectful. Go get it and bury it before it gets squished." Taemin said firmly.
Key entered the room, going over to sit next to the younger. He wrapped his arms around him and patted his back. “It’s okay, Taeminnie, you can cry if you want to. Do you want me to get back at Jonghyun for you?”
Taemin shook his head, his face buried against the elder’s chest. “I don’t want hyung to get mad at me. I’ll be okay, Key hyung. I think I’m just going to go lay down for a little bit.” He got up from the couch, leaving Key frowning as he went upstairs to his room. He flopped down on his bed and pulled the pillows over his head. I wonder what would have happened if I did get hit by that car…would the hyungs have missed me? Probably not, but it’s nice to think they would, Taemin thought to himself. He rolled over, staring out his window. “Would they even care if I got hurt?”
Heechul looked over at Hankyung with Siwon on his lap, the two’s faces practically glued together. He was busy setting out his hair care kit on the table as he waited for Kibum to come in so he could style his hair for him. Hearing the back door open and close, he looked over as Kibum entered the room.
“Heechul hyung, I don’t want much done with it,” Kibum said, sitting down in front of the elder with his back to him.
“I won’t make you look prettier than me, but I will make you look like a precious prince!” Heechul replied, grabbing his red brush that had his name on it with bright pink diamonds.
Kibum rolled his eyes, opening his book back up to where he left off. It didn’t take but ten minutes for Heechul to style his hair, deciding on a basic ponytail. “Thanks, hyung.” He took the mirror Heechul offered him and smiled at his reflection.
“Why did you want me to do your hair? Well, that curtain you try to pass off as hair.”
“I’m going to go meet some of the neighbors and try to convince them that we aren’t all like Siwon hyung and Hankyung hyung. Those two are downright irresponsible and even Kangin hyung is a bear the majority of the time. Not all of us are like that, so we shouldn’t be categorized with them, right?”
Heechul closed his eyes, rubbing his temples with his fingers. “Okay, okay. Stop talking already. You give me such a headache when you open that mouth of yours.”
Kibum sighed dejectedly and got up to go next door, glancing back at the still fuming Heechul.
Said diva walked briskly over to the still attached couple and smacked Hankyung's head. "Yah, knock it off, this isn't a strip club we don't want a show." He said angrily, going back over to check the washroom. It was still locked. "Yah! Henry Lau I know you and Ryeowook are in there either making out or scheming how to get me to believe your lie! I know you dumped my hair dye!" He growled, trying to pick the lock with his hair pin.
Hankyung stared from the couch, brows furrowed as he gave Siwon a look asking 'what's his problem'?
Leeteuk came downstairs, shooing Heechul off and letting Henry and Ryeowook out of the laundry room "Everyone to your rooms, Henry help Ryeongu prepare dinner while Kyuhyun and I do laundry. Reluctantly, Hankyung and Siwon headed up to their room, only to find they were locked out.
Kibum stood on the porch of the younger boy's house and knocked. He hoped that kid wasn't too shaken up. When the door opened, revealing Key, he smiled. "Hello. My name is Kibum. I live with several others in the large house next door and I wanted to apologize about Hankyung Hyung's driving. Er, well I don't know who was driving. Never the less it shouldn't have happened and I'm sorry that boy nearly got hurt. Most of us aren't that crazy, or stupid," he said calmly, smile disappearing as per usual once he became self conscious.
Jaejoong laughed so hard he rolled on the ground with Junsu as Yunho used the hose out back to spray ants off of Yuchun's ass. They were supposed to be holding up sheets in case anyone drove by but they couldn't. Changmin was the only one saving Yuchun's modesty. "I can't see how you didn't feel it at first," Yunho mumbled to the still whimpering Yuchun.
"I think I won't be sitting down for weeks, forget about any action," Yuchun whined uncharacteristically.
Jaejoong wiped his tears, still laughing. "Were you that enraptured with the little kid? You pedo," he joked before once again, dying laughing.
Yunho glared at Jaejoong before turning the water on him, making him and Junsu splutter. “Go in the house if you aren’t going to help. Otherwise, shut your traps and hold up sheets. We don’t need anyone thinking Yuchun is some sort of weirdo who strips in public,” he barked, turning the water back to Yuchun.
Jaejoong pouted, but stood up and pulled Junsu to stand with him. “Fine, we’ll go inside then. Come on, Su, we don’t need this from the self-proclaimed head of the house. Let’s go cook something and then not share it with them.” Junsu nodded and went with Jaejoong into the house. Once they were inside, they started laughing again at Yuchun’s expense. They couldn’t figure out why someone as intelligent as Yuchun would sit on an anthill overflowing with fire ants.
Zhoumi drove down the street, coming back from dropping Shindong off at his girlfriend’s house. He glanced at the house as he passed it, slamming on the brakes immediately at catching a glimpse of someone’s backside. He felt his face go completely red and he floored the accelerator, causing the occupants of the house to look at him like some crazy person. He parked behind Hankyung’s car, getting out to walk up to the house. He stopped and looked at the busted headlight, his eyes widening. He ran up the porch stairs and inside, bumping into an angry Leeteuk.
“What happened to Geng’s car?!” he shouted in rushed Chinese, causing Leeteuk to stare blankly at him.
Kyuhyun sighed before kneeling to pick up the clothes Leeteuk had dropped. “Hankyung hyung ran into a light post and almost hit a bystander who was stupid enough to run into the road. It was his own fault, too,” Kyuhyun replied, earning a smack to the back of his head from Leeteuk. “What was that for? I only stated the truth…”
“Stop bad mouthing your hyung. Go to your room, Kyuhyun, I’ll finish up the laundry,” Leeteuk said, taking the clothes from the younger. Kyuhyun pouted, but went to his room. “Hankyung and Siwon were swapping spit while Hankyung was driving and almost hit the neighbor kid.”
Zhoumi blinked at him before taking half of the clothes in the elder’s arms. “Really? Is the neighbor kid okay? Are Geng and Siwon okay?”
“They’re fine. All of them are just fine. The worst is Kangin has a gash on his arm. I think I’ll have to take him to the hospital to-”
“Wait. What? When did Kangin come into all of this?”
Leeteuk looked at Zhoumi, setting the clothes in a basket on the floor. “Kangin dove out in front of Hankyung’s car to make sure that the neighbor kid wouldn’t get hurt. Plus, it helped Hankyung see that someone was in the road. It scared Hankyung half to death that he almost hit Kangin, but he’s over it.”
After Leeteuk's initial rant, everyone mostly stayed in their room. Henry got sent out of the kitchen after accidentally burning Ryeowook and now he sat in his room with Kyuhyun crying. "Henli-ah... Don't cry. He only yelled because it burned. It's not your fault." Kyuhyun tried to comfort. Henry only burrowed more under the covers, sniffles being the only sound. "I hate it here. I'd be better off if I'd been with Appa and Umma on that plane." He sobbed.
Outside the door, Ryeowook listened to Henry's words, having intended to apologize but found himself frozen. He sniffed, hearing that Henry would rather be dead, and headed towards Eeteuk immediately, seeking comfort from the elder.
Hyungjun watched his friends out the window of Youngsaeng's room and sighed before coughing quite hard. Blood dripped on the floor and he felt tears well up. "If only I could go to the doctor again. I know hyungs try to get my medicine but it's expensive." He said tiredly to himself, knowing he only had one more dose and he needed to make it last.
He walked to the back door and opened it, stepping off the porch to the soft, cool sand. He missed it, having only felt the beach the day they got here. He walked towards the shore and as he heard one of his hyungs shouting for him and running towards him, he saw a small fish washed up into a turtle's nest. It barely had enough water to breathe and it reminded him of himself. He reached down, careful not to hurt the eggs, and picked up the fish, taking it to the water and releasing it. Then, as his hyungs got to him, he passed out.
Yuchun smacked Junsu and Jaejoong both when he went into the house they shared. "Yah! Thanks to you goofs someone saw my white ass. You two both owe me big time." He growled sending the two into another fit of giggles. Changmin frowned at them. "Yah. If it was me they'd take pictures just to humiliate me so count your blessings hyung.“ He marched off leaving the whole room silent. Yunho gave Jae and the others a pointed look. "You're still doing it aren't you?" He growled before going after Changmin. He hated it. He knew the others toyed with Changmin and even raped him on occasion. Junsu wasn't so bad as the other two. He tried to threaten them into stopping it but they still managed when he wasn't keeping a close enough watch. He entered the maknae's room without even asking and Changmin walked up to him with a blade. "Hyung...Please.“
Kibum stared awkwardly at Key for like, a minute. He hadn't said a word. Even to bash him. Feeling uncomfortable in the silence, Kibum forced a smile before he cleared his throat. “Okay, then. Um…I guess I’ll be going then. I just wanted to apologize for my hyungs’ behavior. Bye.” He turned to leave, feeling a hand latch onto his wrist. He looked over, eyes wide as Key offered him a kind smile.
“Why don’t you come in and meet the others?” Key asked, pulling him toward the front door without waiting for a response. He closed the door and turned to the empty living room. “Onew hyung, Jonghyun, Minho, Taemin, come here please!” Hearing the other shout, Kibum was stunned to see three of the four scramble from random rooms of the house as if their lives depended on it. He turned toward the stairs, seeing a younger, skinnier boy walk down a few of them and sit on the last step.
“I’m Onew and the eldest of the house,” Onew said, offering a smile and bowing.
“I’m Minho, the more mature one of the house,” another added.
“I’m Taemin and also the maknae. You friend tried to run me over with his car,” Taemin said, looking at the floor instead of at Kibum. “Key hyung, can I go back to bed now?”
“Of course you can, Taeminnie. I’ll bring something up for you to eat later.” Kibum watched the younger get up and go back upstairs, his feet shuffling across the floor in a tired manner.
“I’m Kim Jonghyun, the most attractive and most talented in the house,” the last one said, brining Kibum’s attention back to those standing before him. He looked at the one who finished speaking, their gazes locking before Minho hit Jonghyun’s arm and he broke eye contact.
Kibum couldn’t hear anything they said to each other after that. It was like he was in his own little world, just gazing at the man in front of him. He was brought back to his senses by Key tapping his arm. He blinked a few times before he smiled sheepishly at Key. “I-I think I’ll be going now. It was nice meeting you all.” Kibum rushed out of the house, nearly tripping over his own feet as he ran back to where he stayed. Heechul was sitting on the front porch now and gave him an odd look when he sat down on the stairs.
“What’s with you?” Heechul asked, his attention still on the knife he was sharpening.
“Whoa…I think I just fell in love,” Kibum replied.
Heechul paused in his work, looking up again to stare at Kibum. “Only men live in this neighborhood…” His eyes widened and he let out a loud shriek. “Guys, I think Kibum’s sick! He says he’s in love with a man!”
