Chapter Three:
Kwangmin and Youngmin walked home, identical smiles on their faces. They had finally found their way out, their way to be together despite being brothers. Stopping at a crosswalk, Youngmin reached over, threading his fingers through Kwangmin’s. “I’m grateful for being unconscious today,” he said, causing the younger to frown.
“I’m not. Sure, it’s great that we have three people willing to pose as our boyfriends, but don’t you feel bad that we didn’t call Mom and Dad after you woke up?” Kwangmin asked, staring at a crack in the sidewalk.
“Don’t worry about them not knowing. I’ll take the blame for it. It’s my fault anyway.”
“Youngmin, you aren’t worried about them grounding us? Then we’d never be alone together!”
Smiling, Youngmin pecked Kwangmin on the forehead. “I said that I’ll take the responsibility for it. Stop worrying so much. You’ll get premature wrinkles.” He whistled as they crossed the street, swinging their linked hands between them. Reaching home, Youngmin pulled Kwangmin behind himself as they entered their apartment, their parents looking over at the same time to stare at them.
“Why aren’t you at school?” Mrs. Jo asked, gasping when she noticed the stitches in Youngmin’s forehead and the bandages wrapped around Kwangmin’s arm. “What happened to you?!”
Youngmin sighed, keeping a tight grip on Kwangmin’s hand. “Mom, we just got into a little accident. It’s nothing major. And a couple friends of ours took care of us.”
Mr. Jo stood up, hands on his hips as if he were about to shout at them before Mrs. Jo held her hand up to halt him. “Boys, you realize how valuable you are to us? You’re irreplaceable. It’s unacceptable for the two of you to get hurt. Now, go change and come out. I’ll make you lunch before I call your school and excuse the two of you for today.”
After going to their room, Kwangmin flinched when Youngmin threw his backpack against the wall. “Yah, calm down,” he said, placing a hand on the elder’s back.
“How can our own mom treat us like we’re some sort of prized cattle?” He turned to Kwangmin, the younger feeling a chill move down his spine at the look in his brother’s eyes. “Kwangmin, get over here…”
Taking small steps toward Youngmin, he wasn’t ready for the elder to nearly pounce on him. They landed on the bed, Youngmin leaving little bite marks across Kwangmin’s neck as he nipped at whatever exposed skin he could. Kwangmin stared at the ceiling, hands pulling at the elder’s shirt as he felt his brother’s mouth cover his own. He didn’t fight when Youngmin’s tongue brushed against his lip and he opened his mouth, trying to keep himself from gagging when Youngmin nearly shoved his tongue down his throat.
Turning his head, Kwangmin gasped for air, feeling Youngmin’s teeth once again scrape against his neck. “Y-Youngmin, we shouldn’t be doing this right now,” he whispered, grabbing the sides of the other’s head and forcing their eyes to meet. “Wait until Mom and Dad leave at least. Or until we can go over to Junho and Junsu’s dorm room.”
Youngmin closed his eyes, nodding as he pushed himself away. He sat on the edge of the bed, Kwangmin crawling over and wrapping his arms around his waist, hands splayed against Youngmin’s chest. “Don’t feel hurt. I don’t want us to get caught.”
“I know.” Youngmin smiled, placing a hand over Kwangmin’s. “We should go see Junho and Junsu tomorrow.”
Smiling, Kwangmin tightened his arms around the elder. “I want us to introduce them to Mom and Dad soon. That way we can go with them whenever we want and have all the time we could ever want to ourselves.”
“I wanted to bring them home today.” Youngmin laughed, squeezing the younger’s hand. He turned and placed a kiss to his lips. “Let’s go out after we change. Mom should have lunch ready by now.”
Junsu and Junho sat on either side of Yuchun, his arms around each of them. They were sitting on the couch after Youngmin and Kwangmin had left. “I can’t believe the two of you agreed to be their pretend boyfriends,” Yuchun said, eyes staring at the show on the television without actually seeing anything.
Junsu shrugged, shifting to where his body was pressed to Yuchun’s side. “You agreed to it, too, so don’t give us any shit about it,” he replied, wrapping his arms around his friend and fisting his hands in Junho’s shirt. “Yah, Junho, I want a kiss.”
Smiling, Junho grasped Junsu’s wrists, pulling him closer. Yuchun groaned at being sandwiched in between the two and tried to get up, flailing when he found himself pinned. “Yuchun, pass this kiss to Junsu,” Junho said, reaching up and grabbing a fistful of the other’s hair. He kissed him roughly on the mouth, laughing as he pulled away.
Yuchun didn’t have any time to react before Junsu kissed him, applying enough pressure to force his head back. When he pulled away, Yuchun pulled a hand free and wiped his mouth off. “Don’t use me as your toy! If you want to kiss each other, just do it!” He stood up, heading for their bathroom.
“Stop acting like you didn’t like it!” Junsu and Junho shouted after him, laughing at him as he grumbled under his breath about finding an unused toothbrush.
“Yah, come here,” Junsu said, pulling Junho by the shirt. He lay back, pulling the other to sit on top of him as his head rested on the arm of the couch.
Junho smirked, leaning down and giving Junsu a kiss. By the time Yuchun returned, Junsu had tugged of his and Junho’s shirts and Junho had gone to work on unfastening his brother’s jeans. “Whoa!” Yuchun shrieked, covering his eyes. “Let’s not have sex while your best friend is here.”
Junho glared at Yuchun over his shoulder. “If you don’t like it, you can leave,” he growled. “Last night, Su kept me from getting any. I’m not going to be abstinent like that nerd Yunho.”
Yuchun rolled his eyes. “You know as well as I do that if Jaejoong offered himself on a silver platter, Yunho would jump on him.”
“It doesn’t even have to be a silver platter! It could be a piece of used toilet paper and Yunho would still be up for it!” Junsu added, laughing. He frowned a moment after, wrapping his arms around Junho’s waist. “Now, go away. I want some twin time before Jaejoong comes over with that weird brother of his.”
Yuchun straightened, a smile spreading across his face. “Jaejoong is bringing Ryeowook over?” He nearly bounced in place at the mere thought. “I’m staying. I’ll just go make something to eat.” He paced back and forth in the hall, indecisive about cooking or staying in the living room.
Junsu threw a pillow at him, hitting him in the face and causing him to fall into the wall. “Stop that! Either go in the kitchen or stay out here. Damn, you’re so indecisive.” He pushed Junho away, the other pouting. “Sorry, but Chun killed my mood.”
Junho glared at Yuchun again, getting up and pinning him against the wall. “I have to wait again for the chance to screw my boyfriend! Damn you, Yuchun!”
Yuchun tried to blend into the wall, only breathing after Junho stormed away and went into his room. He looked at Junsu. “Sorry, Su. I’ll leave next time you guys want your privacy.”
Junsu waved him off, buttoning up his pants and pulling up the zipper. “Don’t worry too much about it. We’ll most like have sex tonight.” He turned his attention to the television, missing the was Yuchun’s face flushed at hearing what his friends’ night would entail.
He shook his head, sitting down on the couch as far away from Junsu as he could without sitting on the floor. “Just leave the details to a minimum.”
Kwangmin and Youngmin were sitting with their parents at the table, all four eating lunch in silence. Every time Kwangmin tried to start a conversation, it wouldn’t go anywhere and end up as another awkward silence. Youngmin didn’t eat much of anything, using his fork and pushing his food from one side of his plate to the other as he stared at it blankly.
“Youngmin, stop playing with your food. If you aren’t going to eat it, then go to your room,” Mrs. Jo said, taking another bite of salad.
Youngmin rolled his eyes, getting up and going to his room. He closed the door and climbed onto the bed, facing the wall. A few minutes later, the door opened and closed, Kwangmin appearing in front of him holding a glass of water and bottle of painkillers. He looked up into his younger brother’s eyes, seeing the worry in them.
“I know your head is probably throbbing right now. So before you can argue with me, just take a few of these and lay back down,” Kwangmin said, his tone firm and leaving no room for arguments.
Youngmin sat up, taking the bottle and dumping a couple pills in his hand. Popping them in his mouth, he gulped some water, washing them down. “Thanks. Come lay with me,” Youngmin whispered, laying back down as Kwangmin set the bottle and glass on their desk. The younger climbed on beside him and pulled his head to rest on his chest.
“Youngmin, I didn’t thank you for earlier.” Thinking back to a few hours ago made him want to cry. He could have been hospitalized if he had been hit by that car, but Youngmin had been there and paying close enough attention to shove him out of the way. “I could have really gotten hurt.”
Youngmin took his hand, intertwining their fingers as he smiled. “I’m your brother. I’ll always be here for you. Even when you fall in love with someone else, I’ll be here.”
Kwangmin frowned, blood seeming to run cold at the thought of not loving Youngmin the way he did. He shuddered, pushing that thought away. “I’ll never outgrow you.” He placed a kiss against Youngmin’s forehead. “I’ll love you forever.”
Youngmin sat up, a serious expression gracing his face. “You don’t know that. Don’t promise me something like that when you don’t know if you’ll be able to keep it.”
Staring at the elder, Kwangmin couldn’t help but feel a bit angry. He got off the bed, pulling Youngmin behind him. The door banged open as he walked out, ignoring the elder’s protesting. He stopped in the kitchen, waiting for their parents to look in their direction. He kept Youngmin hidden mostly behind himself as he stared at their parents.
“I’m in love with Youngmin,” Kwangmin stated, their parents’ eyes going wide.
“Yah,” Youngmin whispered, tugging on his twin’s hand. “Are you crazy?”
Mrs. Jo stared at her sons, eyes wide as her hands trembled. “What did you just say?” she asked. She stood, taking shaky steps toward them. “That you’re in love with your brother?” She laughed awkwardly. “Don’t be silly, Kwangmin. You can’t be in love with your brother. It’s not right. Being in love with any family member is abnormal, but your brother, your twin?”
Kwangmin stared at her, not once taking a step back. “Then I guess I’m abnormal and wrong because I really am in love with Youngmin.”
Mrs. Jo looked at them, her eye twitching. “I refuse to have my sons be in love with each other. If you were gay, I might be able to accept that, but with each other?” She scoffed. “Never. I’ll never allow it.”
“Then you won’t have sons anymore.” Kwangmin stood his ground, but when their mom raised her hand, he felt himself pushed to the side, eyes wide as he stopped himself from hitting the wall with his free hand. A smack echoed through the apartment.
Youngmin stared at the ground as his cheek stung. He gripped Kwangmin’s hand tightly before looking up at their mom. “Don’t hurt him,” he said, eyes pleading. “Ground us, throw us out, I don’t care. Just don’t put your hands on him.”
Mrs. Jo stared at her sons, shifting her eyes from Youngmin to Kwangmin and back. “D-don’t tell me that you think you’re in love with Kwangmin, too.”
“I don’t think I am, Mom. I know I am. If I see him with anyone other than me, I get jealous. If he hugs, hold hands, or even just smiles at someone that isn’t me, it makes me want to break something.”
Mrs. Jo raised her hand again, Youngmin flinching as she swung. Mr. Jo caught her wrist, Kwangmin sighing in relief before hugging Youngmin to him in an almost clingy way. “Let go of me!” Mrs. Jo shouted, pulling against her husband.
Mr. Jo looked at his sons. “Go pack a few things and stay with some friends until this blows over,” he ordered, tightening his grip. “I’ll give you a call when she calms down.”
Youngmin nodded, turning and pulling Kwangmin to their room. He opened Kwangmin’s dresser drawers and started pulling out clothes. “Put these in a duffel bag.” He went to his dresser as the younger did as he was told.
“Youngmin, where are we going to go? We can’t stay with any of our old friends. They live too far away.”
“That’s why we’re going to Junho and Junsu’s. They helped us before and they know how things are in our situation. They’re just like us although their parents didn’t kick them out.”
Kwangmin finished packing his things and helped Youngmin pack his, grabbing a photo of the two of them off of their bedside table and tossing it into the elder’s bag. “What about out toothbrushes and other stuff?”
“We’ll buy new ones later. I’m sure Dad will wire us some money.” Youngmin grabbed Kwangmin’s hand, slinging his duffel bag strap over his shoulder and picking up Kwangmin’s. He went into the hall, looking at where their dad was embracing their mom, trying to calm her down. He frowned at seeing the nail marks in his dad’s arm. “We’re going now.”
At his voice, Mrs. Jo’s head snapped up, her eyes holding a wild appearance. She thrashed against her husband, trying to get to the twins. “I refuse to have sons that are in love with each other!” She clawed at her husband’s arms again, drawing blood.
Youngmin winced, glued to the spot at their mom’s rage before Kwangmin tugged on his hand and broke fear’s spell over him. “Let’s go,” he murmured, walking out of the door to their apartment. He pulled Kwangmin with him down the road, retracing the steps to the Kim twins’ dorm. Reaching the building, he looked around, following previous steps and stopping outside room E4. He raised his hand and knocked, feet shuffling around inside before the door slowly opened.
“Youngmin? Kwangmin?” Yuchun asked, staring at them with a stunned expression on his face. Junsu got off the couch and appeared by Yuchun’s side, a frown on his face at seeing the younger twins look so haggard.
“What are you doing here?” Junsu asked, inhaling sharply at seeing Youngmin’s cheek. He tilted the younger’s head to the side to get a better look. “You two come inside.” He stood back, allowing them to enter before closing the door. “What happened?”
Junho came back into the living room at hearing someone at the door and being his curious self, he wanted to see who it was. He was surprised to see that the Jo twins were back, but even more surprised at seeing the handprint on Youngmin’s cheek. After thinking he couldn’t be shocked by anything else, he was nearly floored when Kwangmin spoke, tears threatening to fall from the younger Jo twin’s eyes.
“Mom hit Youngmin and Dad told us to leave until he can calm her down enough for us to go back. We don’t have anywhere else to go and we can’t go home because I doubt Mom will ever calm down. Just hearing our voices makes her mad now.”
Youngmin frowned and faced Kwangmin, hugging him as the younger’s tears fell. He looked over at Junsu and Junho. “We can stay here for a little bit until we can find somewhere else to go, right?”
