A/N: I apologize for the short chapter. I haven't worked on this in a really long time.
Chapter Two:
“Are you sure my moving in tonight will be okay?” Hyunseung asked, holding the last box of his things while Junhyung rearranged some boxes in the trunk of his car to fit the last one in.
“Of course it’ll be okay. Why wouldn’t it?” Junhyung replied. He turned and held out his hands. “Last box, please.”
As the elder handed the last one over, he saw Doojoon’s car round the corner. “Oh, crap.” He looked at Junhyung trying to shove the last box into the car, then glanced at the car speeding toward them. “I’ll just hold that one up front!”
“No, I can make it fit.”
“Yah! Hyung, what’s going on?” Dongwoon yelled, slamming Doojoon’s car door and walking up. “And who the hell is this?”
“Woonie, be nice to Seungie’s friend,” Doojoon said, wrapping his arms around the younger’s waist. “Yah, Seungie, who is he?”
Rolling his eyes, Hyunseung turned to face them. Before he could speak, Yoseob and Kikwang tumbled out of the car and grabbed onto his wrists.
“He’s our new nanny!” they cheered.
Dongwoon laughed. “You’re a nanny?! Who the hell would hire you to be a nanny?”
“I would.” Junhyung’s voice startled them. Although they knew he was standing there, they hadn’t expected him to talk. “And if you have a problem with it, tough shit.” He smiled at Hyunseung. “Shall we get going?”
Hyunseung nodded, turning to usher Kikwang and Yoseob back into their seats, making sure they were fastened in before closing the door. He glanced toward Doojoon and Dongwoon, wishing he hadn’t the moment his eyes met with theirs. Lowering his head, he reached for the handle, his hand shaking. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and climbed inside before either of them had time to speak.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” Dongwoon asked, arms crossed as he glared at Junhyung.
Junhyung gave him a look that was nothing short of thinking he was insane before he scoffed. “I don’t have time for this. I need to get home so my sons can eat and get adjusted to having a new person in the house before they have to sleep tonight. Have a good day, okay?” He smiled as he clapped Dongwoon on the arm before turning and getting behind the wheel. He shook his head as he fastened his seatbelt, igniting the engine.
Hyunseung peered at his former roommates as Junhyung pulled out, sighing in relief as they entered the apartment building. “I thought they’d have made a scene,” he murmured, looking out the window.
“You mean that wasn’t a scene?” Yoseob asked, eyes wide.
Hyunseung shook his head. "Last time I tried to move out, they threw a fit and the person I was supposed to move in with still isn’t talking to me.”
“What do you guys want to eat?” Junhyung interrupted, glancing at his sons in the rearview mirror as he braked at a red light.
“I want pizza!” Kikwang replied.
“I want cereal!” Yoseob stated.
Junhyung laughed. “We had pizza last night and cereal is for breakfast. What else?”
“Dad should cook!” Kikwang crossed his arms, pouting. “You never cook anymore. You used to cook all the time when Mom was around.”
Hyunseung watched from the corner of his eye as Junhyung stiffened, relaxing not even a second later. “You miss Mom, don’t you?” Junhyung asked, Yoseob and Kikwang nodding. He frowned. “To be honest, Dad misses her, too.”
Hyunseung didn’t miss the way Junhyung frowned, knowing that it hadn’t been a divorce that forced this family to break apart. “If you don’t mind my asking…what…was it that made her leave?” After a few minutes of awkward silence, Hyunseung waved it off. “Never mind. I shouldn’t have asked.” He turned back to the window, hoping that his question would fall on deaf ears.
Junhyung turned to enter his driveway, parking the car near the. “Boys, go on in and wash up. I’ll help mister Jang unload his things.” Once the two were safely inside the house, Junhyung lowered his voice. “She was really sick. Maybe I’ll take you to see her if you’re around for a while.”
With that, Junhyung climbed out of the car and opened the trunk, taking a few boxes into his arms. He went into the house, leaving a dumbfounded Hyunseung in the passenger seat. Taking a deep breath, he got out, closing the car door and going to the trunk. He grabbed two boxes, walking up the front porch steps as Yoseob and Kikwang darted out the front door. He spun to avoid being run over, losing his balance. He closed his eyes and waited for the hard surface of the porch to hit him, but when it didn’t, he got cracked an eye open. Hyunseung gasped, nearly falling over at seeing Junhyung’s eyes peering at him, the other’s arm wrapped firmly around his waist to keep him from falling.
“You okay?” Junhyung asked, eyebrows knitted together.
“I’m fine. Just fine.” Hyunseung offered him a smile before turning and rushing into the house, stopping once inside since he didn’t know which way to go. Kikwang ran back inside, grabbing onto his pant leg.
“It’s this way, mister nanny!” Kikwang chimed, pointing down the hall. He led the elder toward the room, Hyunseung gazing in awe at the spacious room. He noticed that it was indeed the room he would be staying in, recognizing his tacky boxes in one corner of it. He felt his face heat up at the mere thought of how tacky his things would seem in the house.
“There’s two boxes left,” Junhyung said, his voice making Hyunseung jump. He chuckled. “You’re jumpier than expected. You aren’t going to cry in some corner of the house if you break a nail, are you?”
Hyunseung frowned, the vein in his forehead pulsing. “I’m not a pansy. I’m just a little on edge because this house is new to me. By tomorrow, I’ll be fine. I adjust well.”
Junhyung smiled, leaning close to keep his son out of the conversation. “I’ll be the judge of that.” He smirked at the appalled look Hyunseung gave him before he set the boxes he carried down and left to retrieve the last two.
Hyunseung looked after him, mouth still agape in shock. “Did he really just say that and imply what I think he did?” He scoffed, pulling out his phone. “I can’t stay here. That man is insane.”
Kikwang frowned, pulling on Hyunseung’s pant leg. “Is nanny hyung leaving already?” he asked, full lips set in a pout as his eyes filled with tears. “But you just got here and we haven’t had company since before Mommy was here and happy.”
Hyunseung looked down at the boy, smiling sadly as he pocketed his phone. Kneeling, he ruffled Kikwang’s hair before carefully moving his dark locks back into place. “I’m not leaving. Not until my job is done.” He ran a thumb over one of the boy’s cheeks, removing the tear that had escaped.
Junhyung watched from the doorway, a small smile pulling up the corner of his lips. You’ve already been accepted in Kikwang’s heart. Yoseob will be a bit more difficult, Junhyung though to himself. I know that no one can replace their mom, but you can at least help them cope with losing her.
Kikwang smiled. “Nanny hyung, what should we do first?”
Hyunseung smiled back at the younger. “First, let’s go wash up like your dad said and then how about we read?”
“Read? I don’t like reading.”
“I’ll find a way to make it fun for you. Does Yoseob like to read?” At Kikwang’s nod, Hyunseung stood, taking his hand. “Let’s go get Yoseob, too. I’m sure he’ll enjoy story time.”
Junhyung watched Hyunseung and Kikwang leave the room, setting the boxes down so that he could follow. Yoseob was in the living room, playing a video game. Kikwang ran over and tackled the blond, making him fuss and push Kikwang off.
“Yah, I’m playing a game! Kikwang doesn’t like it when Yoseob messing with him so Yoseob doesn’t like it when Kikwang messes wit him!” Yoseob shouted, cheeks puffed out.
Hyunseung frowned. “Yah, Yoseob, be nice to Kikwang.” He walked over and sat in front of the two. “He wanted to know if you’d like to join us for story time.”
“Story time is for babies. I’m not a baby.”
Hyunseung rolled his eyes. “Okay. Well, would you like to read with us? We’re going to read a pop-up storybook.”
Yoseob thought for a moment before he picked up the controller. Hyunseung frowned, thinking he was being ignored until the blond turned the game console off and grabbed Kikwang’s hand and held a hand out to him. “Come on then, mister nanny. What story are we going to read?”
Hyunseung smiled, taking Yoseob’s hand as he stood. “It all depends on which book you’d like to read.” He led the two boys back to his room, Junhyung watching with wide eyes as the three left.
“I don’t believe it,” Junhyung murmured. “Yoseob willingly turned off his video game to go read with Kikwang.” He let out a soft chuckle as he shook his head. “I think it’s the end of the world.”
