Chapter Eight:
They entered the base around noon, not bothering to be quiet. As T.O.P turned the engine off on the tank, Doojoon and Junhyung climbed out of their car. The others climbed out from the tank. Upon arriving, many of the sergeants and recruits looked their way as curiosity got the better of them. Commander Yoon exited his barracks and stood by the flagpole, just a few feet away.
“Nice of you to come back,” Commander Yoon stated.
“Leave my husband alone,” Doojoon ordered. His request was met by several gasps from the crowd forming around them. He smirked, glancing at their audience. “That’s right. I, Sergeant Yoon Doojoon and Commander Yoon’s only son, have a husband. And it’s because I’m gay.” He watched the emotions play out on his dad’s face.
“You dare to humiliate me?!”
“You’re an embarrassment to yourself,” Leeteuk said, standing beside Doojoon. “It’s been a while, Uncle. How are you alive? Weren’t you shot last year by Jang?”
Commander Yoon laughed. “When you reach my age, you’ll see just how expendable your relatives are. Jang may have hit a vital organ, but your father was useful for something.”
“My father…?”
“That’s right, Jung-su. I made your father give me his other kidney. The one that wasn’t on the edge of failing. And after he did, his kidney failed. He’s dead.”
“So, you’re saying that you basically caused Teuk’s dad to die?” Kangin asked.
“Yes, indirectly, I caused his death.” Commander Yoon smirked. “You’ll soon realize that people are expendable. You don’t need them to live or to be successful.”
“You’re wrong,” Junhyung interrupted. His hands were balled into fists so tightly that his knuckles were white and they were shaking. He glared at Commander Yoon. “People aren’t expendable. There’s no such thing as an expendable person.”
“Shut up. You think your words have any effect on me? I’m the Great Commander Yoon! I’m better than you!”
“Really?” Hyunseung asked, stepping forward. His eyes were as hard as stones. “If you’re so great, how is it that a year ago I managed to wound you?” When Commander Yoon scowled at him, he smiled. “You aren’t as great as you say.”
“Let our friends go,” Cheondoong ordered.
“I’ll exchange them. Your friends for him.” He pointed at Junhyung, grinning evilly.
“Not a-” Seungho started. He was cut off.
“Deal,” Junhyung agreed. “Let us see if they’re harmed. If they are, you’ll have hell to pay.” As Commander Yoon motioned for Mir and Joon to be brought out with the other five prisoners, Junhyung turned to his friends. “I’ll figure a way out of this.”
“Are you insane?! Why the hell would you do this?” Hankyung demanded. “Aren’t you in love with someone? Why would you want to cause them pain?”
Junhyung smiled sadly. “If I don’t do this, Cheondoong and Dongwoon would be hurting. Not only them, but the other five captives don’t have anything to do with this.” He smiled widely. “Also, I need to protect Doojoon and our kids. They mean more to me than my life.”
“You are insane,” Kangin murmured. Nobody heard him over the seven people being dragged out in handcuffs. He stood, staring at Commander Yoon, unable to believe he was there.
“Ah, I almost forgot,” Commander Yoon stated. “Kangin, Hankyung, Heechul, and Leeteuk. Come back with me and all will be forgiven.”
“I’d rather die,” Leeteuk, Hankyung, and Heechul said simultaneously. Kangin sighed before walking toward Commander Yoon.
“Traitor!” Seungri hollered after him. The elder turned around and glared, causing him to take a step backwards.
Commander Yoon smiled. “I knew I could count on you, Kim.” Kangin stopped by Yoon’s side and turned to face the others. “Release the prisoners. And you, get over here.” As soon as Mir, Joon, and the Five Treasures were released, Junhyung slowly walked toward Commander Yoon.
“Why did he do that?” Mir asked Seungho. “Is he insane?”
“He didn’t want Dongwoon or Cheondoong hurting if something happened to you,” Jiyong explained. “He willingly agreed to go with Yoon if you guys were released.”
“Even…even us?” Jonghun asked, astonished. “But he doesn’t even know us…”
“That’s just Junhyung,” Doojoon replied. He was watching as his husband walked toward his dad, unafraid of what would happen to himself. “That’s one reason why I fell in love with him.”
When Junhyung stopped in front of Commander Yoon, he was hit across the face. “You will leave my son’s side or you’ll die right here.”
“I’d rather die than leave him. I can’t leave him.” Junhyung rubbed his thumb over his bottom lip, removing the blood. “I love Doojoon.”
Commander Yoon hit him in the stomach, dropping him to his knees. He pointed a gun at Junhyung before he smiled. “Kangin, show your loyalty to me by doing away with this sorry excuse of a man.” He handed the pistol to Kangin.
“Don’t do it, Kangin!” Leeteuk shouted. He was near tears. He didn’t want to see the man his cousin loved die right in front of him. Nor did he wish to see the man he loved be the one to shoot Junhyung. “Don’t do it…”
Kangin pointed the pistol at Junhyung, his hand shaking a little from gripping the weapon too tightly. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. He closed his eyes, ready to pull the trigger.
“Do it, Kangin!” Commander Yoon ordered.
All that could be heard was a gunshot and someone screaming. Kangin dropped to his knees before he tossed the pistol to the side, tears streaming down his face. He covered his face with his hand.
“I’m so sorry…”
Junhyung opened his eye, unable to believe that he wasn’t dead. He looked over at Kangin, surprised that he was crying.
“Y-yah,” Junhyung stuttered. “Who’d you shoot just now?”
Doojoon came rushing over, dropping to his knees to tightly hug Junhyung. “Junnie,” he whispered, kissing the younger’s temple. “Junnie, are you alright?”
“I’m fine, Yoonie. W-what the hell happened…?”
“Kangin shot Commander Yoon in the head…” Seungho explained. He glanced away from the corpse, refusing to stare at it any longer. “I think I’m going to hurl…”
“He what?” Junhyung looked over Kangin’s shoulder, his eyes finally falling upon the corpse of Commander Yoon. “Oh gosh…” He closed his eyes, trying to rid himself of the image.
“Kangin, what made you shoot Yoon?” Leeteuk asked, kneeling beside his friend. He was startled when the younger leaned over and rested his head against him. “Kangin…?”
“I couldn’t shoot him, Leeteuk. He did nothing wrong…I couldn’t shoot him.” After a few seconds, the only sound filling the air was Kangin crying uncontrollably and Leeteuk trying to soothe him.
“Let’s get out of here before things get ugly,” T.O.P suggested.
It took less time to get back to Lakeside than it had to get to the base. After arriving at the Yoon-Yong residence, they all filed inside. Kyuhyun and Sungmin were asleep in the living room floor as Jinkyong and Yongsook slept on the couch.
“Yah,” Doojoon whispered, nudging Sungmin awake.
He sat up quickly. “Oh! You’re back already? How did it go?” Sungmin asked. He reached over and tapped Kyuhyun. “My Kyu, wake up please.”
“It went better than expected,” Seungho informed him. “We’re all crashing here for the night.”
“And next door,” Jiyong added. He glanced at his watch. “I better be getting home. Good night, everyone.”
“Who are they?” Kyuhyun asked groggily, staring at the new five.
“Well, they’re new. They know some leads on who beat up the kid staying at Yoseob and Kikwang’s,” Joon stated.
“There’s a kid staying at Banana Head’s?” Junhyung asked.
Jaejin nodded. “He was jumped by this group of guys. We chased after them, but…”
“We lost their trail near that base,” Jonghun supplied. “If only we could find them.”
“Do you know how many jumped him?”
The two friends looked at each other, wondering if they should reveal the number. Deciding it would be beneficial, they looked back at the others. They spoke together.
“There were eleven of them. They are broken up into two official gangs and have been our rivals for a long time. We’ve hated each other for years.”
“So, who are they?”
“Together, they go by One Day,” Hongki explained. He had just entered and stared at them passed his friends. “Apart, they go by 2AM and 2PM. The ones you really have to watch out for are 2AM. They’re stronger than 2PM and therefore there’s only four of them.”
“How do you know that they’re the stronger ones?”
“They killed our friend. It was before Seunghyun became one of us,” Minhwan offered. He glanced at his hyungs. “Wonbin was one of our best friends.”
“They killed him?”
The four friends nodded. “We’re our to get revenge. Not only for our loss, but for that kid they jumped.”
“We have to kill at least one of their friends.” They looked at the others before they bowed slightly. “Hyungs, will you aid us in getting revenge?”
