Chapter Nine:
Part One-
“Our enemies were right under our noses,” Jaebeom stated. He slammed his fist against the wall. “Go find out where they’re staying.”
“But, Jae-” Junsu began. He yelped when he was hit by the book the leader threw.
“I said go!”
Nodding, he left the leader of One Day and went outside. As he walked, he rubbed at the bruise starting on his face. He was met by Changmin, Taecyeon, and Jinwoon.
“Yah, Junsu-ah!” Changmin called after him. “What did the boss want?”
The younger turned to face them. “He wants us to find out where our enemies are staying…” He dropped his hand once he realized it was drawing attention. Junsu glanced away from his friends’ gazes, refusing to answer the unvoiced question. “I should be going. Jaebeom hyung doesn’t like waiting.”
“Hyung, are you alright?” Jinwoon asked, eyeing his face.
“I’m f-fine, Jinwoon-ah. Really…”
Taecyeon narrowed his eyes at him. “Did Jaebeom hyung hit you again?” Junsu shook his head furiously. “Junsu hyung, tell the truth. Did hyung hit you?”
Junsu stared at the ground. “Hyung threw a book and-”
“Jaebeom hyung!” Taecyeon yelled, turning and stalking toward the building. He stormed through the hallway and pounded on the door. “Hyung, open up or I’ll break the door down!”
“Go find where the enemies are at!” Jaebeom responded through the door.
Taecyeon tried to twist the doorknob. “Unlock the door, hyung!”
“Do as you’re told first!”
Sighing, Taecyeon took a few steps backward. “You’d better move if you don’t want the door to hit you.”
“What are you-”
Before he could finish, Taecyeon had charged the door and kicked it in. Jaebeom was pressed against the wall to the right, startled.
“Yah, why’d you throw a book at Junsu hyung?”
“I didn’t throw a book at him.”
“Then why the hell is his face bruised?!” Taecyeon poked him in the chest. “You abuse my hyung again and I’ll hurt you.”
“I don’t abuse him!” Jaebeom shoved the younger away. “And don’t put your hands on me.”
“Every time he’s left here he has another bruise or cut. Stop hurting him.” He turned to leave, seeing a soldier staring from the hallway. His eyes widened. “H-hello, sir!” He saluted.
“Why were you talking back to your Sergeant?” the higher up asked.
“We were just…I mean, I was…” Taecyeon looked to the ground. “Sorry, sir.”
“Come with me.” The higher up motioned for him to follow.
Taecyeon followed him from the room and outside the building. Junsu, Jinwoon, and Changmin could only stare as they walked by. Jaebeom walked out a few seconds after them, a little worried. His recruits rushed over to him.
“Yah, where’s he taking Taecyeon?” Changmin asked. He looked at Jaebeom. “Hyung?”
“That idiot got caught talking back to me. Not only that, but he kicked in my door,” he answered.
“He kicked in your door? Why?”
He looked at Junsu. “You, get your ass over here.” The younger did as he was told. “You told Taecyeon that I hit you?”
“N-no, hyung! Jinwoon noticed that I was rubbing my cheek and then Taecyeon asked if you had hit me. I told him that you didn’t. You just threw a book and it-” Jaebeom shoved Junsu, making him stagger and fall. Taecyeon had glanced back in time to see Junsu fall to the ground. His anger flared.
“Yah, keep your hands off of him!” Taecyeon shouted. He ignored the order form the higher up in front of him and started walking toward Jaebeom and the others.
Jaebeom glared at him. “Fine, I’ll keep my hands off of him.” Smirking, he stomped on Junsu’s leg. There was a snapping sound and Junsu screamed. “Happy, Taecyeon? I kept my hands off of your precious hyung.” He turned to walk back to the barracks.
Taecyeon couldn’t function correctly. All he could hear was Junsu screaming in pain as he clutched his leg. He glared at Jaebeom’s back, hypnotically moving forward. He didn’t know how he had picked a rock up from the ground or when he threw it, hitting Jaebeom in the head. He couldn’t recall when they started running, carrying Junsu along with them. He was still dazed when they came to a stop at a small town by a lake.
“Hyung, are you crazy?!” Jinwoon yelled at him. He didn’t get a response, so he shook his hyung slightly. “Hyung, answer me!”
“Yah, Jinwoon, leave him be,” Changmin ordered. “We have to get Junsu to a doctor.” He looked at Junsu. “Do you want me to help you walk or just carry you?” He, too, didn’t get a response. “Yah, Junsu.”
Junsu pointed in front of them. “It’s them…”
The eldest looked where he was pointing, startled to see the Five Treasures standing there with the four boys and young child. “It is them.”
“Yah, Taecyeon hyung!” Jinwoon smacked him lightly on the cheek. “Taecyeon hyung, answer me! Taecyeon hyung!” He looked at Changmin. “Hyung, why isn’t he responding?”
Changmin walked over to him, smacking him a little harder than Jinwoon had been hitting him. “Yah, Taecyeon-ah! Taecyeon!”
Junsu took in a big gulp of air before shouting down the road. “Yah, can you help us, please?” His voice made the nine people jump and the child squeal. The child wiggled out of Jinki’s arms and ran toward the new faces, giggling.
“Key!” Jinki yelled after him, too scared to move closer to the people who had jumped Taemin. It wasn’t until two of the Five Treasures ran after Key that he finally moved.
“Hello, Oppa!” Key greeted Junsu with his cute voice. ”My name is Key. What’s yours?” Jonghun and Hongki were close enough to hear the answer.
“I’m Junsu,” he replied through gritted teeth.
“Why are you sit-” Jinki snatched him from the ground before he could finish his sentence. “Appa! Down! I want down!”
“No, Key. They’re dangerous,” Jinki whispered.
Changmin laughed hollowly. “Do we seem dangerous right now? Junsu has a broken leg and none of us know what the hell is wrong with Taecyeon. He went crazy when-”
“Did you just say Taecyeon?” Hongki asked. When the other nodded, he lunged at Taecyeon. Jonghun barely managed to grab onto him.
“Yah, hyung, calm-” Jonghun began.
“You killed Wonbin, you bastard!” He tried to break free from Jonghun’s hold. Jaejin came running up, helping Jonghun restrain him.
“Hyung, calm down. You need to calm down,” Jaejin stated.
Key looked at the five new faces. “Are you bad people?”
“Yes!” Hongki hissed.
“No, we aren’t bad people,” Jinwoon explained. “We did what we had to because of orders from Jaebe-” He staggered when Taecyeon punched him.
“Don’t you dare mention that bastard’s name around me…” Taecyeon growled. He winced once he looked at Junsu. His eyebrows furrowed, him finally realizing they weren’t at the base. “Where are we…?” He looked around.
“You’re in Lakeside!” Key offered, smiling.
