warning: cut for violence.

His name is Jacob, he tells her as he slides onto the bar stool next to her with a confident smile on his face. Danielle doesn't show any signs of the fact that she already knows this, that she had been watching him for days now; she just introduces herself as Denise and let's him use some of what he probably considers to be his best moves on her. It builds his confidence, and to build on it she gives him details about herself in return as if she really is falling for his charm - the facts all fake, but he doesn't know or care about that. It's makes things easy after that, giving him that sense of control that in reality he doesn't really have.

His name isn't a coincidence. Neither is the fact that he has dark brown hair like a certain Jake Leonard, or a very similar cocky attitude. He's no cop, he's a student at a nearby college and works as a banker at the town's bank, but that's okay with her. Maybe that's one reason it makes it easier - he's not as paranoid as Jake had grown to be by the time she met him.

It's easy to lure him out of the bar. It's even easier to get him out to her place, a nearby cabin where she says she's vacationing. She lets him explore the place, lets him serve her something to drink. Ever the charmer, she tells him, and his ego only grows.

Once he passes out she sets things up. Dani carefully injects him with a sedative, ties him up, and when he comes to enjoys that look on his face. The surprise. The struggle, trying to free himself from the handcuffs that keep him tied up. He swears he'll scream, and when he looks like he's about to, she just drives her blade across his chest slowly. The cut isn't deep, but Jacob still yelps in surprise before screaming obscenities.

But instead of being worried about someone hearing them, Danielle just smiles. Coos in his ear that she'll make him look beautiful. Just give her a little bit of time.

She watches him writhe with every cut, hears him cuss with each design she carves into his skin, and each time she digs a little deeper. Lets him bleed a little bit more. The sheets are getting soaked in blood, Jacob's wrists and ankles are getting rubbed raw from his struggling, but just as he tries to jerk away he just stops. His eyes are locked into hers, his eyes wide with fear, but she just smiles as she digs a dagger into his abdomen. It's not the shallow cuts and designs she had been doing - they both know it's deep enough to bleed him out in minutes.

By the time he's found two days later, the handcuffs are off and any sign that Danielle Summers had been there are gone. Even the credit card she had used to rent the cabin is under a different name, but Danielle knows it won't end there. Not if she knows Detective Leonard as well as she thinks she does, because she already knows he'll see the signs. The cuts, the designs carved all over his body.

He has your name, baby, she thinks when the story makes the newspaper, and she also knows Jake will notice that. It's a sign. A I haven't forgotten about you message.

One that he'll get, loud and clear.
