September: Dangerous

The room is small and pitch black. She can hear the man inside whimpering. The dose of the toxins was minimal compared to some of the previous experiments. Normally it would be Crane who would conduct this test, but he's been distracted. Audrey doesn't want to think about why her mentor is distracted. It's all that she can think about.

"Turn on the lights," she says to Isaac.

Clipboard in her hand, she watches through the glass window as the lights come on inside the room. The man begins to scream as soon as he sees the spiders. So many spiders. They're not poisonous, but who knows what the man is hallucinating them to be.

"I guess he really is arachnophobic. What a stupid fear to have." She doesn't usually judge patients fears, but she's annoyed. It shouldn't be Isaac helping her. It's supposed to be Crane. This is the second experiment in a week that he's passed over to her. Yes, these are the typical ones. The ones that don't really require his expertise. He wouldn't give her the important stuff to handle alone. He's too much of a control freak for that.

"GET THEM AWAY. GET THEM AWAY FROM ME." The man is screaming, and the spiders are crawling all over him. She makes her notes on the clipboard. He's boring her. She's so bored of this stupid experiment.

Arachnophobia is a waste of her time. It's a waste of her talent. Time to make things interesting. Sure, it's not what Crane instructed her to do. Maybe he'll be angry with her, but she doesn't care. If he wanted to control the experiment then he should be here to do so.

She turns her back on the window and walks over to where the cabinet of drugs are. She fills a vial with twice the amount of toxins that was used in some of the more interesting experiments. "Inject him with this."

Isaac takes the vial, gives her an unreadable look, and then does as she's instructed. He isn't even out of the door when the man begins to claw at his own skin trying to get away from the spiders. He's drawing bloood. Minimal blood. This is still boring.

Reaching into her pocket, she takes out the pocket knife she keeps there. "Aud?" Isaac asks, but she ignores him. When she opens the door, some of the spiders escape. She doesn't bother stomping on them. Instead she strides over to where the man is trying to tear his own skin off.

"This will help," she whispers to him in a soothing tone, but the smile on her face is dangerous. The knife is thrust into his hands as she steps back and watches him make quick work at getting the spiders off his skin. Who cares if he has to remove his skin to do so.

The screams are so loud, and the blood splatters everywhere. Now things are more interesting. This is more worthy of her time.
