Interlude in Kai...

Just writing up some mutual headcanon Yukimura and I came up with on what exactly happened while Masamune and all were hanging out in Kai.

First off THE SITUATION: after everyone collectively got their asses kicked by Nobunaga's forces, a retreat is called and everyone is invited back to stay in Kai (Takeda Shingen's domain) because it's the closest and people are wounded. Amongst the wounded are Masamune, who was shot in the ribs by the rifle squad led by Mitsuhide, and then proceeded to fight Mitsuhide until Kojuurou intervened and convinced him to retreat, and basically kept on going without telling anyone he was wounded until he literally passed out while riding his horse.

This leads to Masamune lying in a room in Shingen's place all bandaged up to recuperate. Meanwhile, Hisahide is a dick and kidnaps some of Masamune's men and demands ransom for their return. Kojuurou prepares to go, but Masamune wakes up and overhears and insists on going. Kojuurou proceeds to fight him and kick his ass in order to stop him, including slamming the hilt of his sword into Masamune's stomach at one point, narrowly avoiding hitting the gunshot wound already there.

BECAUSE OF ALL THIS we figure that after the whole Hisahide incident Masamune probably ended up in a sort of forced bedrest for the next several days at least, up to a week or so, just so that he'd have a chance to even START healing without doing something to aggravate or reopen the wound. Again. During this time Kojuurou did most of the sitting there keeping an eye on him, with others occasionally filling in as needed. Yukimura probably dropped by a few times, whether specifically coming to check up on things or just passing by. He'd talk to Kojuurou at least, since Masamune was indisposed a good deal of the time, and because if he WAS awake Yukimura would be just a bit awkward with the idea of initiating a conversation with a lord who's the guest of his lord, rival or no. At times he was awake and in the mood to talk Masamune might say something to him or otherwise include him in a conversation with Kojuurou, but that only if he happened to be awake if Yukimura was there.

However, Kojuurou definitely did have Yukimura take over/substitute for him on watch duty on occasion, whether because he genuinely needed a quick break and Yukimura happened to be there, or because he came up with an excuse to do so and let Yukimura sit and think things over. Which is basically what Yukimura did, if Masamune wasn't awake- sit stiffly in seiza and stare and think things over in his own Yukimura way. A few times Masamune was awake or woke up and they talked, and there was probably at least one incident of Kojuurou leaving Yukimura watching a sleeping Masamune and arriving back to Masamune awake and talking with him, thus resulting in Kojuurou stopping and staying hidden out of sight outside the door for a while to let them talk. Shingen also dropped by to check on things on occasion or if necessary to speak with Masamune about something (e.g. his soldiers, plans, or other such things) but this was not often, and such visits were generally brief to allow Masamune time to recover.

So after several days to a week of this, Kojuurou and the others (but mostly Kojuurou) deemed Masamune well enough to be up and about, but not do anything strenuous. So for another week or so Masamune was basically chilling around Shingen's place taking it easy. Kojuurou still kept an eye on him to make sure he didn't push himself too soon, but it wasn't like being confined to a bed most the day. Unsurprisingly Masamune tended to get a bit restless, and when there weren't meetings to discuss matters with Shingen and such going on, was likely to stop anyone who happened to be hanging around with time to spare for updates, including Yukimura. At times when Yukimura really didn't have anything else he needed to do, these conversations would turn from just matters of business and news and such to, well, actual conversations. Mostly on subjects still relating to things like armies and warfare and tactics and administrating one's domain and so on, but still conversations none the less.

And then, by the time Masamune was finally recovered enough to get back into the action, they received news that Nobunaga's forces were OUT ON THE MOVE and things go on from there.

....also Yukimura came up with the wonderful addition that one of those conversations was "I WILL CERTAINLY DEFEAT YOU IN BATTLE DATE-DONO" "Masamune." "Date-dono." "Masamune." "Masa... mune-dono" "Close enough."
