The Breakdown

Personality: Born into the lap of luxury, spoiled rotten is one of the best ways to describe one Draco Malfoy. The only child of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, growing up in a pureblood wizarding family meant that he was raised to believe that he was better than most of the wizarding population and that he could throw his status in everyone's face. More or less, Draco was raised to be prejudiced and bully anybody who was different than he was. He can be fairly arrogant and won’t even bother trying to hide it.

From the time he was a small child, Draco knew how to use his words to dig at people where it hurts most. Once he arrived at Hogwarts, it wasn’t below him to constantly mock and harass Harry Potter and his friends, especially about physical appearances or social status. He’s been known to make fun of Harry’s dead parents and his scar, Dumbledore’s stupid decisions, the appearances of the professors, the Weasley’s financial situation, and Hermione’s status as a muggle-born, or a “Mudblood”. Of course, he wasn't much nicer to his "friends." Draco Malfoy had mastered the art of manipulation at a very young age. He treats his friends more as servants than as companions and he’s also been known to suck up to teachers in order to benefit himself, namely Professor Snape, a good friend of Draco’s father.

But underneath all of that arrogant, snarky, cunning personality there’s another side of Draco that didn’t really appear until he was about sixteen years old. The world becomes a rather cruel place when your father's incarcerated and your name means nothing. Seeing how his father was a Death Eater, Draco was chosen to replace Lucius and in doing so, his whole personality was rearranged Over the course of his sixth year at Hogwarts, he started struggling with morality and his own conscience. What the Death Eaters wanted him to do and what he wanted to do became two very different things, and Draco found himself slowly buckling under the pressure. As the year went on, he became more sickly and paranoid, spending a lot of his free time trying to accomplish his mission and giving up things he loved most (i.e. Quidditch, and some might say he gave up stalking and taunting Harry Potter.) Even knowing the price over his head, Draco knew he couldn't fulfill his mission of murdering Albus Dumbledore. It's that one moment that really shows the possibility that Draco can be a somewhat redeemable person. This carries on into the summer after his sixth year when the Dark Lord moves into Malfoy Manor and Draco's forced to go along with Death Eater activities. The fact that he's very unwilling to use the Cruciatus Curse on other Death Eaters and just how uncomfortable being in his own home is for him is enough to solidify that he's not a wholly evil person, despite being a prick.

Being a Death Eater meant getting your hands dirty, something Draco didn't truly understand the meaning of before he was in over his head. While he enjoys picking fights, Draco has cowardly tendencies when it comes to actually physically duking it out. If he’s caught off-guard, he tends to cry instead of trying to fight back. This seems to change in his fifth/sixth year where he's been known to fight with Harry, but for the most part he'll leave the work to someone else. Draco's also been known to mock people for being afraid of things (Harry and the dementors, for instance) but when faced with his own fears, such as entering the Forbidden Forest at night, he’ll also cry and take off running. Of course, there's also something important that ties into "the other side" of Draco Malfoy when it comes to fighting.

Draco is incredibly protective of the people he truly cares about, especially his mother and his father. He puts himself at several risks in becoming a Death Eater in order to honor his father and his family’s name, protect them from being in harm's way and working himself to the point of physical exhaustion and mental paranoia in the hopes that Voldemort would actually care and spare his family's lives. By no standards is he a Gryffindor, but he will fight tooth and nail to defend his family's honor. And though not a Ravenclaw, he’s also a smart boy, as proven when he was made a Slytherin prefect in his fifth year (never mind the fact that may have had a bit of teacher favoritism action going on there.) Even without that, it's been proven time and time again that he's quite intelligent, given how he excels in certain subjects (see: potions, transfiguration, charms) and given his deductive reasoning skills. He might not seem it, but he's also capable of repairing things and manual work, considering the fact he managed to repair the Vanishing Cabinet on his own. When he was younger, he was greedy for power and he loves receiving praise from his professors and his peers, the best example being when he was part of Professor Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad his fifth year, in which he would more or less tattle on Harry and his friends to Professor Umbridge to keep “order” to the school.

Intelligent though he may be, sometimes Draco proves himself rather stupid. There have been times in his past where Draco talks without knowing when to shut up and that gets him in trouble. Need we point out the ferret incident? Whether he realizes it or not, Draco can be easily swayed and manipulated by people who influence him, such as his aunt, Bellatrix Lestange and the other Death Eaters.

Those days have faded though, and Draco as we know him now is a shell of the boy he once was, fearful and almost obedient of the Dark Lord in hopes that he can make things okay again. He doesn't boast, he doesn't stick his nose up, and he doesn't drop those three words echoed most in his childhood, "my father said", anymore. His ideals and his views on the world have changed; watching people die and torturing people can do that to a boy. Of course, will he ever admit that he's weak and needs help? No, of course not. Look at Half-blood Prince where he cried only to Moaning Myrtle, but when Harry discovered him he threw a fit and a fight broke out. Despite everything he's been through, everything he's going through, pride is something that hasn't waivered.

More or less, Draco Malfoy is more complex than one may believe, and not many people see the entirety of his personality. He will either project himself as being stuck up and powerful, or to a very rare amount, he will show his weaknesses. It’s hard to say which side Draco is truly on and for what reasons, seeing how he wants to remain loyal to Voldemort’s side due to his father but he’s also hesitant when it comes to fulfilling the orders of the dark lord, choosing the coward’s way out in several situations. Draco was forced to grow up too fast after his father’s imprisonment, and now he's learning his lessons the hard way.

Update as of 12/11/2011: To come when it's not 2:45am.

Strengths:
Physical: As Seeker of the Slytherin Quidditch team, Draco can fly well enough to dodge and weave his way between other players. Even as a first year when the students were learning to fly, Draco had enough skill to easily fly high into the air with Neville's Rememberall to taunt Harry without losing control. He can also throw very far, as shown in the case with the Rememberall as well. In fights with Harry, he’s also agile and quick enough to dodge Harry’s attacks but also fire his own. He's also shown to be a quick runner seeing how he constantly has to run from people or to tell on people.

Mental: Draco is a phenomenal student who excels in several areas, particularly in Potions and casting spells, though also skilled in Transfiguration. Despite the fact that Snape told him what spell to use, it was Draco and his sheer amount of power at the age of 12 that helped him conjure a snake. By the time he becomes a Death Eater, he can block people from magically entering his mind, perform spells non-verbally (such as when he used the Vanishing Cabinet to transport the Death Eaters into Hogwarts), he knows how to perform difficult spells that will kill other Wizards, he can block spells non-verbally, and he can fire out spells during fights without stopping to think about it.

When he wants to, he can manipulate professors into favoring him, particularly Professor Snape and Professor Umbridge, however this only works in some cases. He was made a Prefect of Slytherin House. He’s also an incredible wit and can trade insults with people quite easily. Along with that wit comes a cunning edge that makes him plan things, such as how to get past the people watching the corridors for the Death Eaters.

One of the biggest points of Draco's mental strengths is his ability to use deductive reasoning to get straight to his points and his answers. No one told him that there was a twin Vanishing Cabinet; he figured that out on his own. He's actually quite logical and calculating when he has a task to focus on.

Emotional: Emotionally, Draco’s been trained to block people out from entering his mind so his biggest emotional strength is that people cannot read him at all unless he absolutely truly wants them too. He’s fiercely loyal to his family, particularly his parents, and he’s also loyal to his school house, Slytherin. The Malfoy family has always been in the Slytherin house, so Draco sees this as an honor. He’s also a very prideful person.

Weaknesses:
Physical: When caught off-guard, Draco’s easily knocked over such as when he was attacked by Buckbeak the Hippogriff in his third year. Also he’s definitely not as strong as his two “friends” Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. Because he is slender for a boy, he doesn’t take physical damage well at all.

Mental: Mentally Draco is easily swayed and manipulated by people who influence him, such as his aunt, Bellatrix Lestange and the other Death Eaters whether he realizes it or not. He’s also been known to have a few mental breakdowns during his sixth year due to the stress of having to carry out his task of getting the Death Eaters into Hogwarts and assassinating the headmaster Albus Dumbledore. There are also times where Draco doesn’t know when to shut up and that gets him in trouble, such as when he was starting a fight with Harry and Professor Moody transfigured him into a ferret or when he was mocking Buckbeak and the Hippogriff attacked him. Draco also (more toward the end really) has trouble with making decisions, such as the decision whether or not to kill Professor Dumbledore. On the one hand, he knows he has to if he wants to protect his family but he's seen hesitating more than once and he stalls for a very long time in order to keep himself from having to actually kill him and even at the very end he was considering taking Dumbledore's offer for help.

Emotional: Draco’s protective of his family to a fault and he’ll make rash and stupid decisions from time to time in order to save face of the Malfoy name. He repeatedly screams that he has to kill Dumbledore because if he doesn't, the Dark Lord will not only kill him, but he'll kill his family. He picks fights with Harry in order to honor his father on various occasions as well. He also goes through some phases of self-doubt once he becomes a Death Eater as he doubts his ability to live up to his father’s name. He gets overwhelmed as well and while he’s apparently not afraid to show his emotions, he keeps expressions to a minimum.

Notable Possessions

Abilities/Skills Acquired:
Currently now capable of conjuring a Patronus. Please see this for a reference of what he looks like. The Patronus, lovingly and unsuspectingly dubbed 'Padfoot', is a coyote pup. While this seems as though it might have been impossible, thanks to training from Harry as part of an exchange during their first cycle in Luceti (said-exchange being Draco would only work as the DA's strategist plotting against Tom Riddle if he received something extra), he's able to produce his Patronus. At first Draco refused to truly acknowledge that Padfoot belonged to him purely for the fact that he's a ridiculous sort of animal. However, there is logic behind this. If you'd like to learn more about the science behind making Draco's Patronus a coyote, please see this post.

Items Acquired:
- His wand: 10" Hawthorn, unicorn hair core. Also, spoiler: Currently in possession of the Elder Wand, and he's now been made aware.
- A Golden Snitch: Received after the departure of LucetiLand as a "joke" gift from the Malnosso.
- Nimbus 2001: Christmas Present from the Malnosso
- The DA Paper: Due to a semi-forced alliance with the members of the DA during Tom Riddle's stay in Luceti, Draco also obtained a piece of paper. Created by Hermione as a means of communication, it can transfer messages to everyone else with a paper by means of a modified Protean Charm. It looks like an ordinary to-do list. Due to Luceti's power restrictions, the messages won't appear for at least an hour and a half. Note: Currently no longer in effect.
- The neck chain: Around the same point in time where he became an ally of the DA, Draco decided that he and Harry Potter needed a special way to communicate, a way where the others wouldn't know what was going on. Thanks to an off-handed conversation, and Draco's love for antagonizing Potter, Draco created two silver neck chains. When one chain is tugged on, the wearer of its twin bites the neck of said-wearer. Draco enjoyed trolling, mostly. Note: Also currently no longer in effect. Currently keeps said-chain in a box hidden away in his room.
- Notebook. Used to record his inner workings and inner thoughts he doesn't want to broadcast to the whole village.

On fourth-walling: He's been fourthwalled before, so there are no objections here. However, the most knowledge he has of what's going on at home is about the Gringotts break-in. Also, he's already been informed that in some worlds he's a work of fiction. Yeah, he's not too pleased.

Backtagging: Yes! Dear Merlin, I live for backtagging.

Threadhopping: Ask first please, but generally totally okay.

Fighting: Allowed, though generally please ask me first if you wish to plot something big.

Injuring: Considering the things he's gone through both in canon and in-game, generally okay with it but please ask.

Killing: Preferably no, considering I like him being alive but could be convinced if very good plot point.

Using telepathy/mind reading abilities: Due to being best mates with an empath like aphephobic, Draco's got his Occlumency on at all times.

Flirting/Hugging/Kissing/Sexual Relations: Currently not okay due to being in a relationship with magnifien

------------------------------------------

Draco Malfoy is somewhat complex, and not many people see the entirety of his personality. He will either project himself as being stuck up and powerful, or to a very rare amount, he will show his weaknesses. The thing about Draco Malfoy is that despite how much of a brat he can be, he doesn't quite realize the changes going on right in front of his very eyes. Little by little though, he's starting to learn and he's finally growing up at his own pace.

Disclaimer: I do not own, nor have I ever claimed to be Draco Malfoy. Draco Malfoy is copyright of the Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling. I just like to spend too much time pretending to be him for fun.
