[He knew it would only be a matter of time before it happened again, but he wasn't expecting it to be so soon. This time, it didn't really hurt, though it did cause him to raise an eyebrow ( Read more... )

[This is a fascinating question, if only because Robert has been trying to learn magic repeatedly - granted, having an obscenely difficult time with it, but trying - and has multiple friends who can.

But most importantly, he has his thesis, which could really stand to be worked on now that things aren't as problematic.]

I am researching magic and other paranormal phenomena, if that counts?

It may count in the sense that you have knowledge, but do you have any of the skill to go along with it?

I can say, with a relatively high degree of certainty, that my world is completely free of the paranormal, and as such, I doubt there is little I can employ. But I have certainly amassed quite a body of information in the process of creating my paranormal thesis.

[... This might not exactly be helpful, in the same way, but information is always good, right?]

[Robert, you're lucky Draco can actually keep up with what's being said here.]

So really the bottom line is that you're a Muggle. Got it. [No, Draco. Be nice. Think about what Hermione would have wanted you to do.]

...elaborate about your thesis. Briefly.

[That causes him to lift both eyebrows. Black magic, you say? But...this looks like merely a child.]

Do they now...what exactly is considered black magic?

[Okay. Okay so Draco's not going to underestimate Dhaos just yet. Intelligent people always get a bit more of his respect.]

How long have you been learning? If you're truly talented for your age you must be quite powerful for someone your size, correct?

[ Thanks to having this read to him, via Frederic, Helios is actually going to respond. ]

I'm always interested in learning other world's magic. I do have a good grasp of it myself though.

Is that so. Tell me, what defines "a good grasp"? What exactly is it that you've accomplished? Think of this as an interview, really.

Ah, well. I-I know most higher, harder, to learn magical spells in my own world. Spells used by mythological creatures, phoenixes, dragons, demons, you know those sorts of thing. I haven't really accomplished much...just refining and making spells better, easier to use, less power to use them. [ A pause. ]

Ah! But! I have been working of a spell here. It's a little group project my friends and I have been working on. The goal is to cancel sound around a person or in the vicinity of them.

[Okay. Okay, Helios, congratulations. You've successfully gained his attention. Actually it sounds a bit like what Tsuzuki can pull off.] If you can make a hard spell better, that itself is a decent accomplishment...if the spell's actually useful in the first place, anyway.

[And that sounds a lot like a Muffliato.] Fascinating. What progress have you made with this project, if you don't mind sharing? [How the hell did he miss that any of this was going on?]

[Welp. Nagisa can't say much regarding magic, since she can't use it. But she is curious about the experiment thing Malfoy mentioned. She thought the recent event was a spontaneous disaster of some sorts, rather than an intentional experiment. Upon her arrival, someone did mention experiments occurring, but she wouldn't have ever guessed that they'd be as disastrous as this one. So here, have a naive and curious Nagisa.]

Past experiment? Um... What do you mean by that?

[Well. Okay. He has to stop himself because really it wasn't an experiment as much as it was a screw-up by that girl, but it most certainly felt like an experiment and in due time, there'd be another one. But how to elaborate on that.]

All right, to be fair that was a bit of a mistake on that girl's part but. But, there will be other experiments that we have to deal with. Things they do to us on purpose. Not to mention that bloody draft.

["That girl?" The first bit confused her, but she won't dwell on the details. She already has a couple of other questions to ask now, anyway.]

Um, someone mentioned experiments to me when I got here, but he didn't really say much else. What kinds of experiments do they do...?

[And then there's the draft part. She never heard of this before. Kind of reminds her of fighting and war. Buuut, maybe he just means it like the draft of a story! ...Or maybe not.]

Draft?

A lot of things that mess with your body and mess with your mind. They're usually not very kind to us when they feel like running us down. The problem is that you can never really pinpoint when they decide to test on us.

You haven't heard of the draft? Just how long have you been here?

It's only a proposition for anyone who actually displays talent in certain areas of the arts. If one's displayed abilities, we'll take them on and help them enhance those skills.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

Depends on what you think spectating will do to benefit our group as a whole. [He's willing to hear him out, at least.]
