SCENE ONE
Night, pan along grass, until come to young girl's legs, boots being dragged backwards, pan up to torso held by male's arms. Continue to pan up to determined face. Cut to wider shot, there's another man walking over. Similar looking to first man. First man stops dragging, as the second advances menacingly to girl. When he is close enough, girl lifts both legs and kicks him in the stomach. Cut to close shot of first man and girl falling over backwards. Cut to second man clutching stomach while off balance and going backwards. Cut to girl and first man on the ground. Girl elbows him sharply in the ribs, and rolls up to standing position, tossing his arms off her as she does. Cut to wider shot. Girl standing, smiling, ready for more. Push in on her face.
Darius (off camera): Not too bad.
Girl turns around quickly. Cut to wider angle can see Darius, girl (Radella), confused. Radella in far left of the frame. Remembering the two men, she turns back around. Cut to closer, her eyes widen in surprise. Cut to empty ground.
Radella (softly): What the...? (turns to Darius) And you... Who the...? And them... Huh?
Darius: Just my bots.
Radella: YOUR bots?
Darius: Yeah.
Radella: Well, that certainly cleared up any confusion I had, so I'll be going home now.
Darius (to self): Curiosity not in the mix huh? Interesting tact. (notices Radella is walking away briskly) Hey wait! I need to talk to you!
Radella (sarcastically innocent): What about?
ROLL OPENING CREDITS
SCENE TWO
Day, pan across campus, rest on Radella and boy (Asa) sitting and talking on wall, looking cosy. Can't hear them. Cut to closer, now their conversation is audible.
Radella: Want to go get lunch? Greasy canteen-type stuff on yours truly.
Asa: I have class, Radella.
Radella: Since when? You've never had one this time before.
Asa: Special class for the people who are completely lost.
Radella: I'm sorry, I didn't know you were having trouble.
Asa: It's no trouble really, I just don't have a clue what the class is trying to teach. I was all right to start off with and then all this crazy abstract stuff came out of nowhere, you know? But I can't afford to get below a Distinction.
Radella: I know. Scholarship's a bitch. I wish it wasn't like that for you. Not that I have a great urge to fail anything, but - (Asa cuts her off but she's going to say "the pressure and stress of keeping a D average?!!!?", Asa talks over the top of her before she gets the hint.)
Asa: It's the thing that brought me here. I have a good life here, job. Friends. (BUT I WOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP. AND NOW I HAVE A GOOD LIFE HERE, I'VE GOT A JOB, FRIENDS...
Both smile shyly at each other.
Radella (teasing, smiling): I suppose, Mr Anti-Murphy.
Asa: It's a tough job, but someone's got (glances at watch) to, go to class. I'm sorry Rad, I really did want to hang today.
Asa grabs his stuff and walks off.
Radella (softly to self): Me too. Bye Asa.
Pull out on Radella sighing and gathering her things, slowly. She's at a loose end. Slowly she steps up and walks semi-aimlessly towards the camera as it continues to move backwards. Reveals Darius, obscured from Radella's view by a pillar/tree. She draws level with him and he falls into step with her. Radella glances at him.
Radella: Darius.
Darius: You remembered my name.
Radella: Sure, why wouldn't I? Remember mine?
Darius: I've known it for a long time.
Radella: So you said... Only I don't get a stalker vibe off you. Or one at all, come to think of it. (NO VIBE AT ALL, COME TO THINK OF IT)
Darius: You're not supposed to be able to use your power on me.
Radella: Right there. That's the thing I'm not clear on. I mean, I'm not sure I'd call it a power exactly. I mean sure, I can read people pretty well.
Darius: Supernaturally well.
Radella: I don't think so. I mean everybody feels what others feel and knows what they're thinking sometimes, right?
Darius: You know all the time, and you're always right. Didn't you know you were? I mean before last night?
Radella: No. I just thought I was perceptive.
Darius: Well you are. Supernaturally perceptive that is.
A boy is walking towards them, no outward expression.
Darius: See him?
Radella: He's sad. I think he broke up with his girlfriend.
Darius: Think or know?
Radella: She cheated on him.
Darius: He's not angry?
Radella: Just sad. Why are you here?
Darius: I was getting to that. I have a job for you.
Radella: Is that how it works? You give me jobs?
Darius: Sometimes. Does it bother you?
Radella: Depends on the job.
Darius: Something's been stolen.
Radella: From you?
Darius: No, the owner was killed in the robbery. But I need to get hold of it. (But it needs to come back to me.) It has great power, although it's cloaked it's only a matter of time before...
They stop walking.
Radella (fake drama): Something truly terrible happens and we all die an oogady-boogady horrific death.
Darius (glares, dignified): Before the power is unleashed.
Radella: And then what I said right? I'm right, you know you have to admit it.
Darius looks skywards.
Darius (with dignity): No I don't.
Starts walking again. Cut behind, pull out quickly, as both continue to walk away.
Radella (serious, almost out of earshot): All right, what do I need to do?
SCENE THREE
An office, tidy, clean. Woman sitting behind the desk (Sarisha). She is dressed in a smart suit, and reading some papers on her desk. Casually she looks at her watch then leans back on her chair and surveys the room expectantly. Darius appears before her. She smiles, but it is without true warmth. She gets out of her chair and walks around her desk. Her stride is determined and confident.
Sarisha: Like her?
Darius: She's fine. I have been watching her for some time Sarisha.
Sarisha: Of course. But it's always different. First contact. The true taste.
Darius: I suppose you never know how you'll interact with someone.
Sarisha: Well, you do love to connect WITH to people.
Darius: Some people.
Sarisha (raises eyebrows): Well we'll soon see how our girl performs in the field.
Darius: She's ready.
Sarisha sits down on her desk, mock seductively.
Sarisha: You're always optimistic.
Darius: Any reason I shouldn't be?
Sarisha: You know me better than that Darius.
Darius: I wish I didn't.
Sarisha: Ooh, that stings darling. You know how sensitive I am. At least, in some places.
Sarisha does something flirty like twirl her hair.
Darius: You're in the mood to play today.
Sarisha: Always am when it comes to you.
Darius: Never were truer words spoken.
Sarisha: Some days I love my job.
Sarisha looks at her watch.
Sarisha: Well time's up sweetie. Toodleloo.
Sarisha waves her hand and Darius disappears.
SCENE FOUR
Night. Radella walks towards a wall. She climbs up it and looks across it. Camera pans to reveal Darius.
Radella: So... Why can't you get it back yourself again?
Darius: I could. But it would be messy. I wouldn't be able to sense people coming like you would. I might not succeed. Besides, you need practice in real life situations.
Radella: And why is that?
Darius: Do you want to use your power for good?
Radella: Yes.
Darius: Then you need to be prepared for bad things to come after you.
Radella: Such as?
Darius: Ramla.
Radella: Who's Ramla?
Darius: Someone you're not ready to worry about yet.
Radella: So why did you bring him up?
Darius: You should know he exists.
Radella: I love it when people are cryptic.
Darius: You need to go.
Radella swings a leg over the wall. Darius hands her a photo.
Darius: So you'll know it when you see it. Get in, get out, get gone.
Radella: I'll know it. And the plan was clear the first fifty times.
She jumps down the opposite side of the wall.
Darius: Here goes. (sighs)
SCENE FIVE
Radella is inside a dark hallway. She's trying to creep silently. She steps and makes a loud creak.
Radella: This is so not what I'm made for. Oh crap.
She quickly hides behind the corner. A man comes into view and snaps on the lights. Seeing nothing he grunts, turns off the lights and goes back. The sound of a door opening and a light switch clicks.
Man: Good, still here.
Radella goes softly in his direction and peers around the corner. The man is there, facing away. Radella continues, and noiselessly opens a door near him and goes inside. Cut to inside. Radella takes the picture out of her pocket and looks at it. She then looks at the ground.
Radella: Now all we need to do is get out of here.
Cut to a cat on the floor. Radella scoops it up and opens the door and steps outside the room. Cut to outside. Five men stand in a semi circle.
Man: Gotcha.
Radella: Bugger.
Beat. Quickly she switches the cat to her left arm. She steps to the right putting her left side towards to wall. She steps past the man on the edge of the semi circle. He tries to put out a hand to stop her, which she blocks with her right hand. She then elbows a second man coming up behind her in the face while kicking the first man in the back of the knee. He falls and she runs. The other men are all getting in each other's way in the cramped hallway. Cut to outside. Radella still running, three men after her. One man reaches the grab her. Reverse turning kick to his stomach. He falls. Radella reaches the wall, puts the cat on it and swings herself up and over. Then takes the cat down on the other side.
NOTE: Any adlibing to do with the cat encouraged.
SCENE SIX
Radella and Darius enter an apartment. Radella is holding the cat, but lets it down once they are inside.
Radella: Your place, huh?
Darius: Sometimes.
Radella: So what does it do?
Darius: Mostly licks itself and lazes about.
Radella gets down on the floor and looks at the cat. Darius grabs her arm and tries to pull her away, but Radella appears fixated and can't seem to take her eyes away from the cat's eyes. Cut to cat's face. Push in on one eye. A silhouette can be seen in the eye, shadowy. A man and a woman. The image becomes sharper. The man behind her and both are facing away from the camera. The image gradually becomes no longer a silhouette, though the girl is still fairly blurry and out of focus. The man steps in front of the girl and breaks the girl's neck. She falls dead. He turns towards the camera, his mouth smiling. Cut to Radella on the floor, eyes open, vacantly staring. Darius is over her.
Radella (softly): Ramla. (coming out of her daze) I know it was him.
Darius: You weren't supposed to do that.
Radella: Tell me it wasn't real.
Darius: I can't do that.
Radella: She's going to die.
Darius: You don't know that.
Radella: I have to save her.
Darius: You can't fight him. He knows more than you do.
Radella: What do you mean by that?
Darius: I think it's best not to tell you.
Radella: I have to save her from him. Whatever he is. Everything has a weakness.
Darius: They are yet to find his.
Radella: Is he human?
Darius: I think so, at least mostly.
Radella: We have to find her - first.
Darius: We have no idea who she is or where to begin looking. Even if we were able to do something about it.
Radella: You've given up already?
Darius: You have to accept the fact that in certain situations you are powerless.
Radella: I refuse to believe that, I'm going to save her.
She walks out taking the key out of the lock on her way, and locking the door behind her. Darius goes to a cabinet, and quickly takes out a key. He unlocks the door. Cut to outside, it's dark. Darius walks confidently over to a low wall/shrub/some other obvious hiding place. Cut to empty ground behind it.
Darius: Unpredictable too? Great.
Cut to side back angle of the house. Radella is behind it, running, fairly far away. Darius gets in his car. Cut to Darius driving.
Darius: Where would she go?
Cut to Radella running. She throws a look behind her and sees no-one. She stops, and looks around her, getting her bearings. She's in some kind of fairly open place.
D
Radella: OK, where am I going?
Ramla (off camera): You're already there.
Radella (turning quickly): Where is she?
Ramla is still out of sight, close up on Radella's face, looking scared.
Ramla (very close, whispering): Who might you be looking for?
Radella: The girl, you have to let her go.
Ramla: But I did not take her. She came willingly.
Radella: Not FOR to what you want to do to her. NOT FOR YOUR PURPOSES
Ramla: Perhaps not.
Radella: Where is she?
Ramla: She's alone. As no doubt my feline friend would have shown you.
Radella: The cat was yours?
Ramla: It was to be.
Radella: And the girl?
Ramla: It is not possible to save her.
Ramla touches Radella's hair. She turns and chops savagely. Into air. Ramla takes both her arms behind her back and holds her painfully. He nuzzles her ear.
Ramla (whispering): Did you know your smell is different when you are alive?
Radella struggles, and tries to kick out but is unsuccessful. Ramla breathes in deeply.
Ramla (still whispering): That's why I don't break your neck until after.
Radella is shocked. Ramla ties her hands behind her back with a cloth. Cut to Darius driving. He sees Radella and Ramla from behind in his headlights. He parks the car, gets out and runs towards them. As he does, Ramla steps in front of Radella and breaks her neck. She falls face down. He turns to Darius and smiles.
Ramla: Too late, Darius.
Then Ramla is gone. Darius kneels beside Radella's body. He undoes her wrists and pockets the material. The he gently rolls her over onto her back. He brushes her hair softly with his hand. A white light obscures everything. When things come back into focus we are in Sarisha's office. Sarisha is sitting on her desk, perky and flirty.
Sarisha: So, Darius. Did you have fun?
Darius: What kind of a question is that?
Sarisha gets off her desk and walks towards him.
Sarisha: Darius, you seem a little uptight.
Darius: What do you care?
Sarisha: I've always cared about you. (whispering, close to his ear) Just like you've always wanted me.
Darius is silent, though obviously angry. Sarisha walks back to her desk and sits on it again.
Sarisha: Can't deny it, even when your desires are all mixed up with feelings about our girl. You know you really should have more respect for the dead.
Darius goes to slap her. Sarisha casually holds up one hand and his slap is stopped an inch from her face. Sarisha appears unconcerned.
Sarisha: Watch that temper sweet heart you never know where it could land you (giggles).
Darius appears angrier but can not struggle much under her hold.
Sarisha makes him stumble backwards until he is against the wall. She walks towards him menacingly. She then lifts up his shirt.
Sarisha: Still working out I see. Good on you.
A soft bell is heard in the background.
Sarisha: Well, they're ready. You'd better go.
Darius is still pretty much paralysed to the wall.
Sarisha: Ooh, how silly. I forgot I had complete power over you.
Darius: No you didn't.
Sarisha: Right.
She turns away and Darius disappears.
Well, it's just a draft of episode 1 but anyway...
