Europa Universalis is HARDCORE. You've got to fall in love with it in order to enjoy it, if that makes any sense.

I fell in love with the idea of it... ha ha. As always when I get the strategy itch, I find myself wishing I had the mind for it. I'm above average at most game genres but when it comes to strategy games I'm decidedly average.
