Summary: Zoro and Luffy on a snowy, winter island.
The snow continued to fall over fresh spilled blood, gently blurring the red into a distant pink. Zoro took a deep breath to clear the adrenaline out of his system, sliding Wado Ichimonji back into her sheath with a soft click. He looked up just as the sun sank behind the high cliffs that surrounded him. He looked over at the blue robed lump that lay facedown on the snow.
Not bad, Zoro reckoned. A swordsman turned bandit because he got seasick and refused to sail…. Well... Did. Seasickness wasn’t going to be a problem for the man now.
Zoro wiped a trickle of blood off his forehead with the back of his hand.
“Hey Zoro! Are ya done yet?!” A loud, boy’s voice called ringing out from the top of one of the cliff faces. The swordsman looked up, to see his captain teetering on the edge. He was scrached up, his coat nowhere to be seen and he’d already ripped the bottom of the pants legs off his new jeans.
Nami was going to kill him.
“Oi! Get down from there before you fall!” Zoro snapped back, earning a foxy grin and a snicker from his captain.
“Gomu~ Gomoooh!” Luffy slipped as he prepared to pull himself back on his own human slingshot. Tumbling forward he pitched over the edge of the cliff as Zoro watched him fall straight down with a dampened THUNK into a deep drift of snow. Sighing impatiently, Zoro went to dig his captain out. As long as he didn’t land on anything sharp he’d be fine.
Obviously Luffy missed the icesickles, the snow drift was gigging as Zoro grabbed the rubber man by the back of his neck and pulled him out. Luffy stretched his arm out to retrive Boshi safe and soundly while allowing himself to be carried by the famed, ex-pirate hunter.
“I guess you took care of the rest of the bandits?” Zoro asked, setting Luffy down on stable earth. Luffy shook the excess snow off.
“Yeah- the weren’t too hard. It was still fun though” Luffy grinned. “Did you have fun too?” He asked, before the motionless body caught his eye. The dark haired boy frowned. He never liked how Zoro usually wound up killing his opponents, but with swords it couldn’t really be helped.
“He was a good opponent” Zoro shrugged, turning Luffy away. The captain smiled again and lopped his rubber arms around the swordsman’s neck, his hat falling back to hang from around his neck. The light was fading quickly, but the white snow seemed to be illuminated as white flakes caught in Luffy’s dark bangs. They touched his bare skin and disappeared in an instant when compared to the boy’s warmth.
“You gotta be freezing” Zoro sighed, the captain shivering almost on command the second he was reminded of the temperature. Zoro unzipped his coat and pulled Luffy in, wrapping arms tight around him. Luffy closed his eyes and buried himself in Zoro’s scent, his warm chest and the sound of his heartbeat. Zoro gently brushed the snow out of Luffy’s hair with one hand, giving the boy a gentle kiss on the forehead. His crazy, precious captain…
Luffy looked up at Zoro and pressed his lips against those of his swordsman’s. The snow swirled around the pair in a moment that seemed to hang on forever.
When they eventually parted, Luffy nuzzled into Zoro’s chest.
“We can warm up together when we get back on the Sunny, right?”
“Of course”
“Is that a promise?” Luffy asked, black eyes shining.
A smile caught on Zoro’s face. “Yeah Luffy, that’s a promise” He swore.
“Now let’s get back before we freeze” He added, holding his captain tight as they made their way back to the shore.
