Showing a group items from our museum collection of Kelmscott Press books including the magnificent Kelmscott Chaucer published in 1896. The Kelmscott Press was a private printing press set up by William Morris & Emery Walker at Hammersmith in 1891 producing hand printed, hand bound books of the highest quality. In the museum we regularly give printing demonstrations using William Morris’s Albion printing press used in the production of the Kelmscott Chaucer. Demonstrations are usually held on a Saturday afternoon when we’re open from 2 - 5pm, check our website for dates. Free admission to our museum. Our extensive collection of first edition books from The Kelmscott Press are kept safe in our archives but we love to show them to visitors as part of special interest group tours. Contact us via our website, if you’d like to bring a group on a tour of our museum at Kelmscott House, Hammersmith
Famous for his wallpaper and textile designs which feature stylised bird and plant, C.F.A Voysey was one of the most innovative Arts and Crafts designers. He had a highly original style which combined simplicity with sophistication. This textile design showing birds of many climates makes us want to go bird-watching!
