How the hell have I not watched Firefly before now?? (And, uh, I just finished episode 3, so no spoilers, mmkay? That goes for Serenity, too.) It's funny how many times I've already recognized quotes and pictures from LJ and my friends ( Read more... )

Firefly is great! I will respect your request for no spoilers and say nothing more. ;)

BSG... I loved it at times, hated it at various points, and wish I hadn't watched the ending. But AJ thought the ending was very appropriate, so ymmv.

I haven't re-watched Babylon 5 in a long time, and some of the acting was, hm, dreadful. But it has some of the best *story* I've ever seen. Epic, amazing story. A bit slow to start, but worth the investment.

Max Headroom. Very eighties in the special effects, but fun.

Alien Nation. Aliens end up on earth and try to integrate peacefully with human society. The buddy-cop-show format was boring, but it worked as a framework for the exploration of culture and integration.

Quantum Leap. You don't have to watch the whole thing; a few episodes will let you catch dozens of geeky in-jokes.

Earth Final Conflict is one I wholeheartedly recommend. :)

Also, if you haven't yet, watch the movies Ink and The Man from Earth. Admittedly, not technically "classics", but IMO they will be. :)

Added them, thanks! And thanks for reminding me about Earth: Final Conflict, too - I'd forgotten about it.

OMG yes! I did this very thing not two weeks ago. I am so sad that I've now seen it all!

I recommend Star Trek: The Next Generation, if you haven't seen it.

I saw a bunch of TNG when it first aired, yeah (of course, can I remember any? No). I do want to start from the very beginning of ST, though, so that's going to have to wait a while.
