Does anyone else find that the absolute worst part of writing a paper is the citation? I can get into a rhythm when I write, but footnotes break that up. I can write an entire page of text in a few minutes and it will be coherent and even occasionally informative, but making two small footnotes seem like drudgery.

not only the worst part of writing a paper, but probably the worst part of life.
i'm the same way and find it really distracting to do the footnotes as i go, and then always want to kill myself when i do them all at the end. i'm working on it though!

Get software to do the citations for you. I use Bookends and I couldn't be happier with it. I just drag and drop my citations directly into my footnotes.

Eh I write them as I go along instead of "saving" them all for later. I need to be able to remember where exactly I found that piece of information. Actually, I'm still getting the kick of using footnotes on Word... I don't know why LOL Probably an excuse to use a mouse instead of the keyboard...

But I do find going back to double check proper citation format to be quite annoying. Then again, I'm a nitpick for details.

So am I just weird? I actually don't mind footnotes. I've done so many of them that they're second nature by now. I can write them without thinking most of the time.

But if they are so awful for you, you can always put place-keepers and come back to them later, or use the citation programs (that I've never used) that will do them for you.
