Humans liked sunbathing, so maybe it was worth a shot for her too? She'll just keep those eyes shut and be totally oblivious to the giant red man with hooves, kay?]

[A mermaid, straight out of kid's storybooks and Disney movies. If Hellboy's learned anything from his fifty-some odd years with the Bureau, it's that things almost never look the way they do in fairy tales. And now, he's seen mermaids before, but only the scaly and fish-eyed variety. So Keimi is really something to take in.

Slowly, he approaches the girl, hooves scuffling in the sound loud enough to make his presence known. No need to startle her if he can avoid it.]

[Keimi stirs from the sound of shuffling. She sits up slowly, turning and facing the man. Someone she doesn't recognize approaching her with her eyes closed? [He tilts his head at her in greeting, making no sudden movements. He can sense she's afraid of him, and that's okay. He can deal with that.]

You don't happen to know anyone with a boat around here, do you?

[Asking a mermaid about a boat seems a little counterproductive, but who else is he gonna ask?]

There's a boat down the coast but... I don't really know who it belongs to.

He glances out toward the water again for a quiet moment, that heavy pull as strong as ever.]

You know, I've heard the barrier extends even under water. But I think if there's gonna be a crack, it'd be somewhere down there.

You're probably right, but I've been warned against going to the barrier. I've heard bad things happen to people who try to escape.
