Is there any kind of law enforcement around here? I know nothing's permanent, but it might be a good idea.

[There. Short and sweet. If he's wrong, he'll be happy to be corrected. If not? Well. He just might need to find some people who can help him do something about it. His last run-in with that bigass dragon had him thinking about stuff like ( Read more... )

...not really. It's kind of difficult to manage such a thing when we're never sure of how long we'll be here.

But I'm part of the Blue Rogues, a defense group. We try to help people around here, to the best of our abilities.

[Good. He was hoping he'd get a chance to talk to someone from one of these groups. He's surprised they didn't chime in sooner, which worries him a little.]

That's what I figured. Do you guys have any kind of standard operating procedure for emergencies? Evac., crowd control, some kind of alert system?

Adell and Stahn are in charge of coordinating and leading us; if there's an emergency, they of us through the journal, using a filter that's open to everyone in the group. Aside from that, it depends on the situation but our role is always to contain the chaos and prevent it from overtaking the town, if possible. There are teleporters in the barracks and rec center, if we need to evacuate the town quickly, though I don't think such drastic measure have ever been taken yet. Wounded can be taken to the clinic or battle dome, but a lot of us have healing magic, so that helps cut down on the amount of patients they receive.

So you guys seem to have good communication with each other. What about the rest of the village? I'm running into the problem that not everybody's gonna have their journal with them if something happens. It seems pretty risky.

Law enforcement. Law enforcement. [he sounds as though he's just rolling the words over his tongue, getting a feel.] Are there any laws to be enforced then?

I guess not. I'm not really worried about that, though. I'm thinking on a bigger scale, more for emergencies.

What sort of emergencies do you think might require the services of a self-appointed military?

Just curious, of course. Law and order and all that, sure it's important for most people.

I ran into a dragon in the cave up in the mountains the other day. Didn't know it was up there until it was trying to barbecue me. But apparently someone else knew. I found a couple girls already confronting the thing when I got there.

This's why we need some kind of organization. Just to keep people on the same page. This thing's been picking off cows for months and I hadn't even heard of it.

...Why?

[Not that he's not technically against rule enforecement, it's just what he follows tends to fall outside of those rules used by conventional society.]

I figure, if something's not broken, you'll fuck it up if you "fix" it.

Come in!

[Derek's in the kitchen, again, making a roast big enough to feed him and HB. He'd forgotten how much the guy ate, but remembered pretty fast once his new 'roomie' moved in.

Once he gets it back in the oven, he'll sit back down at the kitchen table, fiddling with his guitar while he waits.]

It's me. [If you couldn't tell. Either that or somebody's walking a small pony through your front door. Darn hooves always give him away.

He trudges toward the kitchen and lingers in the threshold, easily filling the entire doorway with his bulk. He can't help sniffing the air.] That dinner?

Hey, man.

[The hooves, and the vibration of the floor.]

Yeah. It's got another ten minutes, then it'll be good to go.
