Secondly, this is so much SADDER than I anticipated. Just, *sniff* :*( But certainly, it rings true from Liz's POV, there is this element of sheepishness within it, but it's not funny, it's all terrible, and Liz, as someone who has been taught this her whole life, it's particularly poignant that she's concerned for Alaric, with good reason, and then of course that's how it ends up too.
Just really lovely, a slow steady build to the inevitable conclusion. Awesome. Well done, and thank you again, so much!
I'm so glad that you liked it. It turned out much sadder than I thought it would too. I wasn't expecting Liz to come out so cynical. What I had to remember was that Alaric isn't Damon. They didn't have the same relationship. Plus I think Liz is worried about her town and the people in it she can save.
I enjoyed writing the prompt and I am so very glad that you liked it. Thank you for leaving feedback.
Like. Why are doing this to me? Way to shred me into pieces. THE WORST. MY BAAABES. ALL OF THEM OHMYGOD. I HAVE ALL THE FEELINGS. SOBBING SOBBING SOBBING.
Liz watches Carol Lockwood watch Alaric Saltzman talking to the Gilbert siblings. He’ll be the first to go of them all. Elena Gilbert is death to everyone around her. She’s already killed Caroline. Oh sweet motherfucker. CREYS. This is awful. WHY.
No one in the town argued that Alaric was a good role model for students. His history lessons, though, did manage to keep students interested. My darling Alariiiiic DDDDD: so broken and never enough and ughhh crying okay
Liz is speechless. She was unaware that Alaric actually had an active death wish. She apparently doesn’t know him all that well after all. He seems to be aware of her sinking opinion and after signaling for another drink continues. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANYTHING MORE FLAWLESS OR PAINFUL. I HATE LIFE.
Elena and Alaric are not unaware of the gossip that goes around town about
( ... )
Thank you for your long and well thought out comment. I'm sorry about the agony. I thought it was going to be a happy fic when I picked the prompt, but....not so much as it turns out.
I miss Alaric so much. I loved him and the Gilbert siblings. Not as much as I loved him and Damon, but still. He had such great chemistry with everyone. Show could have gone on forever with him being the reluctant guardian of Elena and I would not have had a problem with that. Ever.
