((Mia)) Another superb chapter, my dear. I like the introduction of Jack's father. Should prove very interesting as (if my math is correct) he's getting out of prison very soon. I wonder how that will affect things. And Jack going to the cemetery with Ennis, and the kiss *happy sigh* I can never say enough how much I love your writing, it is truly amazing. Thanks for this, I needed it badly!

Thanks so much Camilla :) I'm really glad you're enjoying it, and yes, your math is definitely correct...All I'll say is that I chose to name Jack's father Lucas because one of its meanings is "my angel/my messenger." He is one of the good guys, but there will still be a lot of trials ahead- it wouldn't be IPOH without them! :D

I'm so glad that you liked the kiss too- I never feel confident writing them so it means a lot :) Thanks for all your support honey!

A beautiful chapter... l_rabbit December 4 2008, 05:16:07 UTC
This is sheer poetry, describing the scenes both from the outside and from within the minds of the characters. Reading it, I can see the colors and feel the sensations of being there. That is no simple feat in writing; you are amazingly talented.

Thanks so much Leslie! That's such a kind thing to say as I like for the writing to be very vivid, so it's great to hear that it comes across that way for you :) I'm glad you think I get inside the characters minds too- it's quite an emotional story sometimes so that's really important to me.

Thanks again for reading and commenting; I hope you'll enjoy the next chapters!

What ever Jacks father had been incarcerated for, one thing is clear he loved his boy,it was beautiful yet painful to read about his memories, the heart next to Jacks name I would guess it was placed there by his father years ago when he paid 7 dollars to keep the "Name your Baby" book for a long time. And Jack reading it and wonders who would have done it. How sad for Jack to search for his father in the cemetery hoping he did not abandon him out of his free will. It will be very interesting to know what caused their life's to disintegrate. Still Jack became such a sensitive and loving young man in spite of the horrors and mistreatment's in his life. The love Jack and Ennis have for each other is something so precious and fragile, as beautiful as the night sky they both look at just as Jacks father is and wondering if Jack is doing the same. Will he understand Jack once he returns to the outside world if he find out about Jack and Ennis? I hope he does someone needs to be on the young lovers side and who could better understand ( ... )

Hi Torry, thanks so much for all of your beautiful feedback and support :) I love to know what you think of each chapter!

Will he understand Jack once he returns to the outside world if he find out about Jack and Ennis?

I think that's going to be a really important question in the story, and maybe one that I haven't even fully figured out the answer to myself yet. On one hand, as you said, Lucas knows all about injustice, and I'll be going into that more over the coming chapters. At the same time, he was born 39 years ago when being gay was still taboo and his father was pretty much the OMT that we know from the canon story, so homosexuality hasn't been presented to him as a positive thing...but IPOH is going to have a happy ending, and I decided to call Jack's father "Lucas" because one of its meanings is "my angel/my messenger." He's a good man and more importantly a good father- I think that even if he struggles, he will know that he has to teach himself to accept Jack for who he is because that's what being a parent is partly ( ... )

Jack's father certainly has an unexpected and surprising backstory. I love how this gentle and beautiful Jack, even back when he was a child, has always inspired a sense of protectiveness and fierce loyalty from a certain kind of man.... I think it's very perceptive of you to have Lucas' feelings for Jack so closely mirror Ennis' in many ways. What I liked most about Lucas' thoughts was to imagine what he would feel, with his unconditional love for his boy, to know that though he can't be there to protect and love his son, yet Jack has found another man to take care of him, another man who loves him and would equally be willing to stake his life and his existence to ensure Jack's well being ( ... )

Hi Alex, thanks so much for reading! I'm really glad that you enjoyed this chapter :)

I love how this gentle and beautiful Jack, even back when he was a child, has always inspired a sense of protectiveness and fierce loyalty from a certain kind of man.Definitely; I think Jack has a natural kind of vulnerability about him which was of course completely evident when he was a baby and is still visible to Ennis now. Jack is strong in his own ways- he deals with a lot- but yes, he needs someone to look after him and I think it's a very fair point that Ennis does, to an extent, redress the loss of Lucas. Part of what I wanted to do with IPOH was explore the idea of family aside from all the issues of love and sexuality so I'm really pleased that's an aspect which has you thinking ( ... )
