 I realize, despite being a mostly non-believer myself, that good Christians DO exist. They are the quiet ones who don't get heard over the Rev. Phelps' of the world. But then the self-righteous ones have to go & ruin it for everyone

That's super fucked up. Christians who use their religion as an excuse to feel holier than thou make me want to murder babies. And they're usually the worst hypocrites of all.

I'm so sorry for your loss and this creep's inability to act with basic Christian compassion & kindness (which aren't all that different from any other kind of compassion and kindness).

I think there's a strong argument to be made that God (supposing hir existence for the sake of argument) must be very fond of non-Christians, including atheists, to have created so many of them. I was just thinking several times over the weekend that I know a lot of Hindus and even atheists who are undeniably much better Christians (and people) than the noisiest Christians I know.
