Title: Fall Apart Again
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Claire/Jack
Word Count: 200
Summary: She doesn’t know why he puts up with her. For
missy_useless, who requested “Claire/Jack” at my
Winter Gift-Fic Extravaganza. Spoilers through 5.16 - The Incident, Parts 1 & 2; Speculative Spoilers for Season 6.
Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot. Title belongs to Brandi Carlile.
Author’s Notes: For
missy_useless: A good, old-fashioned double-drabble; I feel kind of dirty for loving these two as much as I do, but I don't even care. Kinda-sorta coincides with the plot set forth in my other Claire/Jack story,
Laughing With, but not exclusively.
Fall Apart Again
She doesn’t know, sometimes (most of the time) why he puts up with her. He could have anyone, could trade her in for a newer (less broken) model, but he never does. Never seems to even want to.
Sometimes, when she catches his eyes on her, he’s looking at her like she’s the ocean and the shore; his beginning and his end, all wrapped up into one. And she’s never felt that way before; never flushed so deep. She knows she looks like a lobster when she blushes, but he says she looks like the sunrise, the halo of her hair like the beams that got away.
It’s terribly unbelievable, but she doesn’t think he knows how to lie.
And she thinks she knows why it had to hurt the way it did, thinks she understands why Thomas loved her (never loved her), left her (with a child more his than hers, she’d always felt); why she boarded a plane bound for the other side of the world - she came here to find a man named Jack, with eyes like a sky that her sun can rise up against.
If the baby had been his, she would have kept it.
