Author’s Notes: Just a little bit of nothing, really - but I think these two are adorable together, so I jotted it down.
Serendipity
He bites into a slice of pizza, the sauce smearing at the corner of his lips, and when his eyes flicker to hers - smiling, unable to look away from the fact that it’s him, that he’s here - he swallows harder than he needs to, heart in his throat, and the grin he flashes her way in return is brilliant in the same exact way, a looking glass in its own right as he watches her across the table.
“So, you were the one who found me?” Her lips are fuller than he remembers, more pink. He thinks the world here is duller, though, less saturated; so it makes sense that she shines even brighter.
He idly twirls the straw in his soda, gazes at the way her colors dance through the glass, through the ice; “I helped.”
“It was lucky, then,” and her voice is like music and wine and the best kinds of Bliss he’d ever sold a client, the kind harvested young, fresh, from the deepest sorts of joy any Oyster could ever know; “that you were there.”
He lifts his drink, eyelids lowered as he smirks around the curve at the mouth of the glass, smacking his lips against the carbonation, the tang that keeps reminding him where he is, that it’s real: “Serendipitous,” he answers, though it was anything but - he’d known from the moment she’d left that he’d follow.
She reaches around what’s left of the pie between them, and her hand in his still feels warm, feels strange and new in his own - for all of the times that they’ve touched, he should be used to it; nevertheless, it feels like the first.
