Polar Bear Prints
“Nothing.” Her voice is breathy from the climb, but it doesn’t mask the frustration; her eyes gape wide when she turns back to him, her little face crumpled with disappointment, and it tugs at the center of his chest to see it; those eyes that make the darkness beautiful, all on their own. “I’m not sure I’m cut out to be a detective, Daddy.”
“I wouldn’t say that, sweetheart.” Ben crouches next to his Alex, points to the small imprint of a polar bear track he’d carefully traced into the dirt just that morning, for just this purpose.
The smile she gives him is blinding; like the sun.
