Roses and Wine
The feds are on his ass; he reached too high this time, turned too many heads.
So he does what he does best: he runs.
He’s as far as Miami when he decides he’s put enough breathing room between him and the fuzz, stops for coffee.
He pays with stolen bills, and there’s only one seat open in the whole fucking joint. Typical.
“This taken?” he asks the woman; her blonde hair reminds him of sunshine, and for reasons he can’t guess, he can smell roses and wine.
“James,” she smiles, and he sits.
Because he knows the fingers grasping that cup were meant to wear his ring.
