Bittersweet
The heat is oppressive, the pain more so; when they kiss, and it tastes bitter, it has nothing to do with the blood on her lips -- in fact, that almost tastes sweet.
It’s self-preservation, really; neither one of them sees the other when they lock gazes, stare into souls. They can already feel themselves slipping, and this is affirmation; this is proof that they exist.
It’s 2003. He hasn’t laid eyes on a woman in years.
She smells like Penny. He sounds like Charlie, just a little.
He lays a hand on her chest before she dissolves in the light -- the beat means nothing; she’s been dead forever.
