Parts to Play
It’s strange, the supporting role. She isn’t used to it. It’s not a part she’s known to play.
She doesn’t even have to think before she reaches for that trembling hand where it clenches against the sheets. She doesn’t need to wonder about staying, about trusting the tiny blonde, dwarfed by the bed and blending into the sheets in her gown, not to reveal where she’s hiding. She doesn’t question when the woman hands over her wallet, because she knows that it’ll only take a few steps out of the hospital to turn her back around again.
She has to wonder how much of it’s really an act.
