The World, and What Comes After
He feels her, all around him; she trembles and she pants, and he knows that heaven cannot match this, that anything he’ll ever know will never touch what he feels with her.
She could never be his constant, in two places at once. She is everywhere, unending; she is the breath in his lungs and the pulse in his veins.
She is in flux with him, through him. She is the world, and what comes after.
When he loses her, her doubts it for a moment; listens to the beat beneath his ribs - feels her. Feels safe. Remembers; believes. She guides his hand, his heart, and she takes him away from this place, this Death, as surely as she draws him back. She is his beacon, his touchstone. She doesn’t follow, doesn’t remain static; she forever and always will lead.
He’d loved that about her. He loves that about her.
As the blood spreads, warm like her touch, the press of her lips, the slick heat of her as he’d lose himself inside; as the lights dim and the world ends, he proves himself right -- answers the only question that ever mattered, ever meant a thing.
She is what awaits.
