Title: The Longest Day [1/?]
Genre: AU, fantasy, romance, slight horror
Rating: R
Word Count: 1968
Pairing: JongKey
Summary: Jonghyun and Key move to a new town together and their perfect life begins to shatter.

“What do you mean by saying that you’ll only start searching after twenty four hours of someone’s disappearance?!”
“Those are the rules. According to what you said, he’s been out for two hours only. It can hardly be called a kidnapping or getting lost.”
Jonghyun cursed.
“He never stays out without telling for how long. AND he’s not picking up his phone, either. He was supposed to come back an hour ago…”
“Well, maybe someone caught his eye? Young men your age often look for a lover, it’s about time to settle down, not to worry about your friend that-“
“He’s not my ‘FRIEND’, I’ll have you know, sir.” Jonghyun felt like he was losing it; surely shouting at a police officer through the phone wasn’t the greatest idea, but he couldn’t help it. Not anymore. “And he wouldn’t go to search for a lover. He already has one” his hands were trembling, as the thought of what the hell was taking Kibummie so long overwhelmed him.
“Well, if I were him, I’d probably meet up with my lover somewhere in the town, rather than spend time with my paranoiac roommate-“
“I am his lover.”
There was a pause.
"Oh.”
"Now you understand why I’m so worried? I know him like a back of my hand, so I know that something’s wrong if he’s not-“
“We can’t break the rules. If he’s not here within next twenty two hours, feel free to call us.”
Is it just me, or his voice is now filled with mockery?
He gritted his teeth in frustration.
“Well, thank you.” He hang up. And then, he cried out of frustration.

Three more hours of searching and still nothing. No trace of Kibum, no sign of him, no freaking hint of where he was. Jonghyun was already going crazy with worry. They just moved in together after three years of being together, hiding from their parents, allowing themselves for moments of intimacy only if they were hundred percent sure that they wouldn’t get caught. They got absolutely fed up with it, with pretending not to be madly in love with each other. Their friends didn’t know, their parents either, no one even suspected them to be together. The day they decided to move out to a city that none of them had ever heard of- Jeulgeoum was its name- was probably the greatest relief they’d feel in ages. Jonghyun’s parents found out about their relationship but thought it was ‘just a phase that their son will get over with soon enough’, they forbid him to go. However, Jonghyun couldn’t’ care less. A phase? I want to spend the rest of my life with him, he thought bitterly, realizing, that if he received such kind of a reply from his parents, Kibum would not tell his own parents about them. They were way more conservative than his own. But it didn’t matter, their parents didn’t matter, the world didn’t matter; what mattered was that single, impossibly thrilling plan- they were going to live together. Just the two of them, in a place where no one knew them, where no one could judge them. Jonghyun always was a thrifty person, whenever he would get a part-time job he’d save all his money for the future. He’d also keep half of the pocket money he received from his parents since he was a little kid. His nature and a huge amount of savings could make the couple not only buy their own flat, but also live in luxury for about two months. Of course, they were not going to spend the money mindlessly, they planned to take up jobs once they’d make themselves at home- but it didn’t change the fact that they could feel safe.
Yet, no money could save them from what had happened a mere few hours ago. Kibum went out to grocery, to buy some ingredients for their first dinner together in their newly bought flat. Sure, Jonghyun knew that finding grocery would take him a while, but five hours were not ‘a while’. And the fact that Kibum wouldn’t pick up was making him more and more desperate.
What was he supposed to do? Where could he search for him? How the hell could he just let him go out the first day they moved in, he didn’t knew the town, damnit! God, I wish he were home already, waiting for me…
Only, he wasn’t there. And he wouldn’t be until the very morning.
Jonghyun didn’t get any sleep that night, either sitting on the floor, trying to call Kibum continuously, or going out and checking the nearest places, trembling with fear as it was already dark and cold. It was warm during the day, so Kibum left wearing his tank top and skinnies, no jacket, no sweater. He was probably freezing now, if he was still outside, that is. Jonghyun screamed in frustration causing some passing-by people to jump in surprise. He started asking anybody that just crossed his way ‘excuse me, haven’t you seen a skinny, tall boy dressed all in black, wearing eyeliner and a silver necklace?’, later he would only ask if somebody has seen his Kibummie. His eyes were getting heavy, his breathing became short and rigid, he himself started feeling cold, freezing almost. It still hasn’t been a whole twenty four hours though. It’s been only about twelve since his leaving, but Jonghyun was already fearing the worst. Not giving a damn about the rules, he called the police again.
“Hello?”
“It’s me, I called to report a missing” Jonghyun started, his voice shaky and broken. He felt tears gathering in his eyes and brought his hand up to wipe them.
“I see. Has the boy come back already?” the policeman’s voice was so indifferent that it made Jonghyun’s blood boil again.
“No, he hasn’t, he’s fucking gone, and I’m wandering about the whole town, freezing myself to death and worrying myself sick!” “
Please, calm down, it still hasn’t been twenty four hours. He might have already come back home while you’re outside, searching for him.”
Jonghyun growled.
“Fuck, you’re having a good time there, aren’t you?! You probably have nothing to do in here, in such a small, peaceful town, and it’s so appealing that you won’t move your fucking ass to actually make yourself useful for once!”
Jonghyun hang up, not caring if he just cursed at a policeman. He didn’t care, couldn’t care, he didn’t give a fucking damn. His legs were numb, his throat was dry, and his head was pounding with pain. He still refused to acknowledge any scary thought creep into his mind, refused to lose his hope.
Kibummie Kibummie Kibummie- He didn’t know how he gained enough conscience to force his legs to move again, how he actually made it back to their-
FUCK, WHERE IS HE?!
--their flat. He pushed the door but found them locked, and only then he remembered he had actually locked them and had the keys. He searched for the right key, turned it in the lock, opened the door-
And was greeted with lights on.
What… what’s going…
“Baby? You’re back?”
Hearing this voice, he though he’d just faint right then right there. God, was he hallucinating out of exhaustion and stress? Yeah, he probably was-
“Love, are you okay?”
Hearing Kibum’s voice in his head would be one thing, but seeing him actually being there, in flesh and bones, wearing the same clothes he’d had on before going out plus his favourite pink apron on, and looking at Jonghyun with concern and care, he just didn’t care if it was just a projection of his mind, he burst into tears of relief and confusion and run towards Kibum to envelop him in a tight, reassuring embrace.
“Oh, God, Jonghyun, you’re freezing, what’s happened to you, why are you crying, baby, look at me, don’t scare me like this-“
But Jonghyun only cried more, clutching to Kibum like he was his life-source (he sort of was, anyways), nuzzling his neck, breathing in his beautiful, intoxicating scent. It was him it was him it was really him
“Jjong, look at me, I beg you-“
And Jonghyun not only looked at Kibum; he barely glanced at his lovely, confused face, mine mine mine, and crashed their lips together, muffling any of his lover’s protests.
As he slid in and out of him in their new bed, new flat, new life, he couldn’t help but cry some more, his tears dripping onto Kibum’s flawless, pale skin; he was so desperate to feel reassured of his presence, to feel safe, to feel Kibum, goddamit, he thought he’d lost him! Kibum was still fully aware of Jonghyun’s endless tears, but the other wouldn’t let him ask anything, his every word was effectively swallowed by the elder’s needy lips.
Only when Jonghyun released inside of his lover and led Kibum to his own peak, he started to calm down. He still laid on top of Kibum, still inside of him, trying to even his breath and convince himself that, yes, Kibum was there and he was safe and in one piece. He shuddered when he thought of what would he feel if he actually hadn’t come back… the mere thought made the tears come back to his swollen eyes.
“Love?”
Kibum’s soft voice brought him back to reality, where he was all warm, sated and calm; Kibum’s fingers caressed Jonghyun’s hair.
“Kibummie,” Jonghyun started, choking back a sob “I beg you, don’t ever, ever disappear like that ever again.”
Kibum’s hand stopped, his whole body froze. Jonghyun felt anxious.
“I… Jjongie, what are you talking about?”
This washed every trace of exhaustion out of Jonghyun’s body. He got off Kibum, sliding out of him a bit too fast, but he didn’t even notice that. He stared at his beautiful boy in shock and greatest confusion.
“… You… you were away for at least twelve hours… I’ve been searching for you whole night long, and you just…”
Kibum’s eyes widened in surprise. Knowing him for years and trusting him like no other, Jonghyun knew that the confusion was honest. But that didn’t make him reassured by no means. Actually, it only made him even more scared.
“Was I?... Baby, maybe you just had a bad dream while coming home, you said you’d take a taxi, so maybe you fell asleep and-“
“I haven’t left anywhere! You left to the grocery and I stayed home, and when I didn’t see you for the next two hours, I-“
Kibum was now purely shocked; he sat up, tracing his left hand along Jonghyun’s bare arm.
“Baby. I never left. I was at home the whole time. You decided to go to the grocery for me. So that we could have a dinner together, on our first night here. Don’t you remember?”
Maybe I am crazy, maybe I really fell asleep just now and it’s just a stupid, foolish dream, I want to wake up, I need to wake up-
“Kibummie?” he asked, his voice croaking. Kibum rested his head on Jonghyun’s shoulder and started rubbing circles on his back.
“Yes, love?”
“Have we…” he swallowed “have we actually had that dinner already?”
Kibum backed off a little, looking Jonghyun in the eye with a serious expression on his face.
“No, baby, I just cooked it. We arrived here a few hours ago. Are you… are you okay?”
Jonghyun wasn’t okay, he wouldn’t be okay, he didn’t know what was worse- thinking that losing Kibum was just a nightmare or having a dream of actually coming home to find him. He couldn’t tell the reality from the dreams anymore. Or at least he thought so.

A/N: I'm back! Sort of. That hiatus was kinda long and I missed writing AND COMMENTING (which I shall start tomorrow, there appeared some really amazing updates). Plus, in 2 weeks I'm going to start studing at university so... I figured I should write while I still can :)
Now, this is a very vague chapter, I realize... the next one should clear the things up a bit... or maybe only make it a bit more complicated. Hah. I don't know. :)
Anyways, tomorrow I'll focus on commenting on all the fics that I haven't commented on yet ^ ^
Btw., is it just me, or the JK community is kinda dead these days...?
And, yes, I took the title from Iron Maiden song x"D To think I would use my beloved metal group's song to make a title for a kpop fic... x"D
