We're fine (and the kitties are fine) and we have somewhere to stay (with our friend Christy). It was an apartment under ours, on the first floor of the house. I'll post a more detailed entry later, but know this: EVERYTHING reeks of smoke, our kitchen is trashed and that fire was the scariest thing I've ever been through.

Oh, and this: "somebody called 911 to report the fire" was me.

I think for the most part we just need to clean the charred silverware and wash everything. The Red Cross gave us a booklet that has a lot of good cleaning tips for cleaning after a fire, including how to clean different types of flatware and how to remove the awful smoke smell (Febreze and lots of white vinegar, apparently!). But thanks for the offer! I'll let ya know if anything is ruined that we really need.
