Okay, seriously people. I know I pimped liptonrm's latest vid, Ruination Day yesterday, but I can't stop thinking about it, and I am flabbergasted that the entire world isn't flapping with me. I'm afraid I must insist that everyone else join me in the compulsive behavior

You're my hero! And not just because you love the things I make but also because you did research on the song! I never looked into the line about the Okies, though I really should have.

I did, however, wiki Casey Jones and while he isn't connected with April 14th he was a railroad engineer who died while trying to prevent his passenger train from crashing into a stalled freight train and was the only casualty. Which is an interesting contrast when compared with the Titanic.

And also, if you'll note, I made very sure to pair up the Big Damn Hero lyrics with Sam, who is a Big Damn Hero and was trying to stop the Apocaylpse and would have, too, if not for those bastard angels and demons.

HOMG how is Mockingbird 3 years old? And I already wish that Mockingbird was a movie but now I want it even more because OMG what awesome vids could be made!!!!!

I cannot tell you the number of times I have woken up with Ruination Day playing through my head. So I totally know where you're coming from. =D

Speaking of vids to be made omg? While obsessing about this one on my drive back from class last night, before I got Ruination Day into my iPod, I heard that accoustic cover of "Miss Otis Regrets" (can't remember artist, but baylorsr put it on an early mix) and was all "OMG WOMEN OF DEADWOOD OMG!!" It's an atmospheric thing mostly, as no one in Deadwood actually murders her cheating lover, but there's this sense of constraint in a violent world, and of women pushing against the boundaries and I keep seeing Trixie shooting Hearst and Alma--the ultimate cause of so much of the violence--watching everything from the window in her corsets with her fruity tea, and Joanie with her little gun in her sad, sad hotel room, and then again with Wolcott all menacing and her and Jane against him, and all these mobs and men teeming around them, and poor, poor Jenny on the carpet in Al's office, and Martha over her boy's body

Casey Jones the railroad guy was my first thought when you mentioned the name--don't tell me you guys never heard that story growing up?--but when I looked at the song lyrics it didn't really seem to fit.

Also, your friend above mentioned wanting a movie of Mockingbird and it occurred to me: I've been sort of obsessed with podfic lately, and I do way too much porn and RPF, it seems, and I've been looking to add some more gen and/or het to my repertoire. What would you think of me making a podfic of the story?

You know, I probably have heard the Casey Jones story at some point, because the name sounded vaguely familiar to me, but I didn't remember any of the details...

Re: Mockingbird... My friend baylorsr podficced it late last year (it's up at General Jinjur's site), but I'd be happy to have you do your own version if you'd like. Doesn't bother me at all to have multiple versions of it out there. However, I absolutely will not be offended if you don't feel like putting 9+ hours into making a second version. :-)

Oh, no, that's great...I'm glad it's been done. And while I don't think there's anything wrong there being more than one version of a fic out there--just like with authors, everyone's taste in readers is different--but there are so many great fics that haven't been done, I'll probably just look for some of those. Thanks for the heads-up, though. I'm getting ready to take a long road trip next month and I plan on loading up on podfic before I go.
