What's the deal, yo?
Gaah. Am slightly stressed re: upcoming presentation at this year's AOU meeting--only, like, the biggest annual ornithological conference. I'm scrambling to finish my presentation and practice it before I have to stand up next week in front of a whole bunch of respected scientists and sound like I know what I'm talking about. But that's not the worst part...I have to chair my session. On the one hand, it's an honor to be asked, but on the other, I have to lead the Q&A after each presentation. If nobody has a question, I have to think one up! And ask it! I suck at that!
...I'm sure it will be fine, but I have to freak out about it a little beforehand.
Have I mentioned lately that I *heart* the Golden State Theatre? Well, I do. Where else could I have gone to see the Marx Brothers classic Night at the Opera preceded by a real live opera singer singing arias from the movie? It was so awesome. Plus: The Mighty Wurlitzer! In other movie news, The Aristocrats is coming to Monterey. I am literally dying to see it. A documentary about the world's filthiest joke? Promising no nudity, no violence, just unspeakable obscenity? I am so all over that.
Also, it's county fair season again! Pig races, scary rides, scarier carnies, deep fried foods that are a crime against nature, pie baking contests...oh yeah, baby. Tragically I missed the Monterey County Fair's main attraction this year, The World's Largest Salad. But we were having a sushi party at the time, so, y'know.
And the Stargate love continues! Nellie & I are up to S4 now, and eeeeeeeeeesoawesome. Daniel is such a dork--ah, I have so much love for that man. Also, have dived back into Due South fandom again--really one of my more preposterous loves, since I've never actually seen an episode of the show. But it's the friendliest, most well-organized fandom around, how could I not get sucked in? I've been reading it for at least 2 years now, and am waiting for the DVDs to make it to Netflix. Someday. Oh yes. Someday. Anyway, the fangirls just launched ds_recs a little while ago, and it's such a delight. They give all the ships a chance, even though anything other than Fraser/RayK is yucky and wrong.
