Book Reviews
Now that I'm done with classes, I have a short period between finals and graduation in which to read, or at least flip through all the books I borrowed from the library but never actually got around to reading.  This week I read two books for the purposes of research for my historical-fantasy novel-thingy.

Cool books, especially the second. That would be sooo frustrating, to have food on the table that you're not supposed to eat. Also, I save menus from special occasions (like airline menus from vacations) to relive later, but I think it would just breed resentment if I couldn't ever eat what really rich people were eating.

You read interesting stuff. I'm working on a graphic novel anthology (reading, not writing) of shorts.

Hello! Nice to see you back!

Yeah, it seems tricky to navigate around the decorative or symbolic foods you're not supposed to eat, but for example, if it's just dried, hard seaweed or chestnuts, it would be clear you couldn't eat it, and you wouldn't want to either. The fantasy menus in the book were actually even more fancy than even what the elite were eating in reality, hence them being fantasy menus. But maybe the people were resentful anyways, and maybe that was the true motive under the Meiji Restoration (in which the shogunate was overturned).

Ooh, graphic novel anthology! Japanese manga, or American graphic novels?
