Witch Weekly Annual Holiday Party (Thursday 12/19)

Dec 16, 2013 12:00

The Holidays were a cheerful and festive time. In fact, this season was Daphne Greengrass's favorite time of a year. Everyone seemed to be in a better mood around bright lights, wrapped presents, and the jingle bells. It was about the only time that she preferred to see snow on the ground rather than feel the sand between her toes ( Read more... )

Mandy had been having an alright time. It reminded her of the reunion and the balls they had back at Hogwarts. Only one thing was different, they were all older than when they were back at school. Many relationships had changed but some remained true.

When Mandy saw Draco over at the bar she smiled, she should have know he would have been invited to this as well. She quickly excused herself from her coworker and walked over toward the bar.

"Give me whatever he's having," she said as she stood next to Draco. She gave him a little hip check and smirked, "How's it going handsome?"

He was pleased to see the bartender returning with his drink, minutely impressed upon their stocking it. As he was grasping the martini glass from the bar, her subtle kino escalation threatened to spill a few drops of the million dollar vodka over the thin glass edge. With a smooth save however, he was surprised to hear that someone else might order this same drink and turned his head. Upon eye contact,

"Mandy! What fine taste." He smirked, greeting her.

He let his free hand slip about her waist, the feather of her dress gently flowing through his fingers in the one armed embrace.

"Charmed since your arrival," kissing her cheek.

Mandy smiled at the feeling of his hand on her waist. When she was younger she could have sworn that Malfoy had cast some spell on her to make her always feel somewhat attractive to him. Then she realized that he would never have to even bother becuase there were countless girls who fawned over him. She was just part of the crowd. However she was lucky enough to be social with him as well.

She returned the kiss on his cheek and placed her hand on his shoulder on the opposite side of his drink. "Aw well are you so sweet. I'm so glad you made it. It's quite exquisite no?"

She smiled, "How have you been? I'm sorry we didn't get to talk much at your charity event."

Mandy was surprised when her work team had received the invitations to Witch Weekleys party. She knew it was to be an extravagant affair and was happy for Anthony because this was sure to be good publicity for his gallery. She immediately went look for a dress and soon fell in love with the one she chose. It was so unique and eye catching that she had to have it.

She had asked Andrew to be her date but that was more so she would have a date she knew she would have a good time with. Also she didn't want to be the only one attending without a date. She didn't expect him to be by her side all night and she was positive he wasn't expecting anything from her. She would be content with a dance or two and him actually acknowledging her in front of his friends.

The place was exquisite looking, Daphne had outdone herself. She had transformed the gallery and she knew Witch Weekly would be please. She stood with a glass of champagne off the side of the dance floor people watching.

Drew wore a suit to work everyday, much to his displeasure. It felt like some strange form of torture to sit at his desk for eight hours constricted by a tie and fitted jacket. Somehow, though, he felt differently as he got ready for the Holiday party. It actually surprised him that he was looking forward to an well dressed evening rather than a night on his sofa drinking beers with Jonah and Terry ( ... )

Mandy was surprised when she felt someone touch her back wondering who it could be. Once she heard who it was she instantly relaxed. Something about his voice instantly made her feel more calm about the fact that she was here. Even though her whole work team was here and many people she knew, she had felt a bit out of place. That didn't matter any more, she had her date.

And what a fine looking date she had. She had never seen him in this, so it must have been recently new. He looked amazing in it. She knew he was going to catch the eye of several women, and who knows maybe some men, here tonight.

She wrapped her arm around his neck to give him a quick hug and a kiss on his cheek, "Of course you aren't a horrible date. I've seen lots of people meeting here. Besides it was much easier this way." She was trying to not make him feel overwhelmed. It made more sense as friends to meet there anyways.

She took a step back and held his hand and she looked him over, "Andrew you look so handsome. This suit looks amazing on you."

When she leaned in, Drew wrapped both arms around her. It felt so familiar to be there with Mandy and yet completely new and different. When he pulled back, there was an easy grin tugging at his lips.

"I knew my date was going to be stunning so I had to bring my A game," he told her.

The entrance to the gallery was simply breath taking. Skylar had been to the the Witch Weekly Holiday Party for the last four years, each year outdoing the next. This, however, was beyond anything that she could have imagined. Her editor had told her early on that they were looking to expand themselves and a party with just the right people would be the way to go. It looked like there were big things for Skylar and the magazine in the works ( ... )

He wasn't the biggest fan of parties- not exactly finding himself to be the best company these days. He was tired and still reeling from Cho's death (his first kiss was hardly forgotten no matter how soppy and wet it had been), still working restlessly on the Burning Man case. He'd almost cancelled on Skylar- But he wanted to be there with her. Wanted to be by her side for her big night, knowing that a Witch Weekly event was going to mean a lot to her. Honestly, as he was readying himself for the evening, catching teasing looks from Ron and Neville (both of whom were going stag and already completely hammered), he kept thinking of seeing Skylar in some incredible dress - looking as gorgeous as she always did and he couldn't ignore the flip flops in his stomach ( ... )

She was used to seeing him in t-shirts and jeans or, honestly, nothing at all. While he seemed less than comfortable in his colored shirt and jacket, Skylar thought he looked more handsome than ever. It even looked like he had tried to manage that hair of his. The butterflies were on over drive.

"You're an adorable mess, you know that?" she teased, turning to get a better look. It was, of course, crooked but not obviously so. Skylar gently pulled at his tie, shifting it around before tightening it back up. She took a step back before giving him an approving nod.

"There - absolutely perfect. You almost look happy to be all dressed up."

He watched her carefully as she fixed his tie, glancing down at her with a bemused expression flickering across his face. He pressed his lips into a line to prevent himself from chuckling as she surveyed him, her nod finally causing him to laugh.

"I'm happy to be here with you," he said, earnestly. "This bloody suit will just have to do until I can properly ravage you later-"

Which was his entire plan, of course. He could deal with constricting ties and cuff links as long as he knew it would make her happy and knew that she would rip them off him later on in the evening.

"Now, should we get a drink?" he asked, offering her his arm.

Lavender Brown was not used to dressing up. Even after all these years, the red carpet events and the balls, she still felt very out of place in anything other than jeans and a loose tank top. The girl was clumsy and fidgeted too much. Ever since her fourth year at the Yule Ball when she had spilled her punch all over some pour Hufflepuff girl she felt like a danger to herself and others. Really, she had been distracted by catching sight of Roger slipping out of the Great Hall with Fluer at the time. But it had scarred her none the less ( ... )

Roger was running a bit late. Granted, that should shock literally no one since he lived his life in a state of perpetually five minutes behind. He was a busy man; it couldn't be helped. Usually he was distracted by something he'd left for the last minute, and this was no different. He'd completely forgotten he needed a new suit for this thing. If it had been up to him, he'd have just worn something from some other event, but his publicist - which he'd never stop being baffled about having in the first place - would go into conniptions, and Roger didn't have the kind of time it would take to deal with that ( ... )

There were more people at this event than Lavender had anticipated. She watched them come in and disappear while she waited for Roger, doing her best to look amused and not completely idiotic standing there all alone. A few old classmates came through and smiled their hellos to her, over all, where much too occupied by their own dates to pay her much attention.

And then she saw him - looking as handsome as ever. Lavender would never quite get over the fact that Roger was with her - not just here, but always. He had always been comfortable with woman and his new career only expanded his reach. Yet, here he was. A wide smile on his face just for her.

"Roger, hi," she breathed, feeling a little bit foolish now in her extravagant gown. "I love the new suit, stud."

"I'm glad you approve," he laughed. Reaching out to take her hand, Roger lifted it to place a gentle kiss on the back. "My suit has nothing on that dress. Stopped me dead in my tracks."

There was a teasing smile on his lips, but he meant it with his whole heart. He'd never get over this new confident Lavender - even if she was still building that confidence back up - and didn't think he'd ever want to. She was surprising all the time, it was refreshing and fascinating all at once.

Reid was still grumbling about the fact that Skylar had managed to make her escape without giving him the chance to stink-eye Harry properly when he himself arrived at the party a half hour later, most of the intervening time having been spent debating the endlessly unsolvable tie-vs-no tie question ( ... )

Jemma Dorny had a lot of work to do.

Not only was she in full election campaign mode, keeping a dutiful eye on her newest client in the far back corner and making sure he didn't fall into any inappropriate behavior, she was also here to convince her newest employee (and friend?) Bash that perhaps the social scene wasn't entirely so bad- that perhaps he could stop being such a complete and utter loner and make some friends. She was going to make it easy for him, even. She had them all picked out. Of course- they were her friends but she thought, what's the bother? But then she knew she had more of a chance getting herself elected Deputy Minister than to convince Bash of anything.

Smoothing the skirt of her dress, she took one long look around the ballroom, her eyes connecting briefly with Kingsley. The man nodded kindly in her direction and she smiled in return. He was a good man, one that Jemma could actually stand behind in the election process- and that was new for her ( ... )

Reid turned at the sound of the familiar voice, eyebrows shooting up as he caught sight of Jemma. He let out a low whistle, shamelessly trailing his eyes up and down to take in her full appearance.

"And you look like a bonafide goddess," he said, leaning in to press a greeting kiss to her cheek. "Merlin, Dorny, if I didn't know better I'd say you were looking to get lucky this evening."

She laughed, raising her arm to signal to the bartender for something to drink. She knew she shouldn't while she was technically working but then everyone else was bound to be smashed within the next hour- she figured no one else would know. She looked back to Reid, not minding the look up and down one bit. At least one bloke was paying her the proper attention- even if it was the wrong sort of bloke.

"I'm looking to fundraise, more like it," she said, as the bartender came up toward them. "A glass of the pinot noir, thank you-"

She tucked a lose curl behind her ear as her eyes scanned the ballroom, spotting Bash hovering in the opposite corner. The bartender was quick and pushed the filled glass slowly toward her. She took it in her hand, taking a small sip.

"If it takes a little, you know, oomph and cleavage, who's to judge?" she continued, raising her eyebrows.
