This morning I received a private message from a posting personality at the Force.net Forums. We had been involved in a revived discussion on the fanfiction section about Kyp Durron, the Boy who Survived Kessel. Sadly before I could reply to him he was banned.

The most important objection I have in many of those fanfics is Kyp's characterization. So, anyone who gets molested is a sex addict? That's interesting: My brother and me slept over at my best friend's house when I was 8, and he had a seizure, but because there was an unexpected blizzard I couldn't get back home so his sister agreed to take care of us. Yeah, she had sex with both of us. The result? I don't know about my brother, but I went into suicidal depression. I didn't even feel comfortable taking my shirt off in front of other people after I was molested. (I also wore long sleeves in the middle of summer.) I actually had to learn everything all over again: Taking my shirt off in front of other people at age 12, changing in front of other boys at age 13, having sex at age 14 (VERY cathartic when it happened, BTW), public nudity (at a nude beach with my granola then-girlfriend) at age 18.

I am sad to hear that, Iktomi. And that does seem to be Ars Longa's stance on Kyp's probable coping mechanism. She's a psychiatric nurse in RL and entitled to her opinion. You know in your own life though that it is not the only way one can react.
FYI she had him take many years to get over that behavior and then also overcompensate in the other direction. And her first language isn't English.
She wrote the other one, By Any Other Name, without any sex at all. (for Kyp!)
Moi? I don't like the ones at Adult fanfiction.net where they make Kyp seduce Jacen and Anakin AT the Jedi Academy. Now THat sucks and it's illegal too.
Kyp is an awesome character and I want him back in the canon EU soon. Personally meanwhile I want all my awesome characters to have great and pleasant fanfic sex as often as they can because that is what I wish for myself-- and for you, someday.
