While I wait for the call my Boss wants me on, I'm going to type up ALL THE FEELINGS about last night's TV, aka, Terra Nova and Hawaii Five-0. Spoilers for upcoming things as well as things aired already.
I love the evil birdies of doom on "Terra Nova!" And I, too, am amused that they said "Oh look, eggshells," and built there anyway.
As for Steve jumping REALLY REALLY HIGH, I rolled my eyes at that, too. It takes a while to get up there, even with a plane! He just didn't seem to have that much spare time. It was a pretty scene, though.
The entire design of the colony is bad. I mean really, houses around the PERIMETER? Defensible space, people! You can grow crops back and forage to make up for the short-fall in that event, but HOUSES ON THE OUTSIDE? WTH.
And yes, I'm pretty sure Steve just JUMPED. It's a bird! It's a plane! no, it's Super!SEAL!
Tranny? Are you serious??? Please tell me you just made that up. Why the hell are they calling her that? I do not understand. I haven't seen last night's ep yet (at this rate, not sure I want to!), but I liked Lori, and I'm the one who usually hates new characters! (Not a fan of Joe White so far).
I found it in a reaction post on Tumblr. I only wish I was making it up. Further in that same post the OP said something to the effect of "I respect that you guys may like her. But I hate her, so let me bash her indiscriminately and leave me alone."
Some days I just hate fandom.
I'm still ambivalent about Lori, honestly. She showed some awesome last week, but still has a cardboard personality. Her big car scene with Danny was just awkward. And I think Joe is pretty redundant as a character. We don't need him, except to attract Lost's audience.
I saw your post on fanficrants and kept wondering where the "tranny" comment came from, so I'm glad I found your reaction post here. You know, there's fans and then there's fandom i.e. there are people who post about shows on the internet and there are real fans who have a bit more sense. Some are "people who just wandered in off the street and called themselves fans" -- and these must be the types who use slurs and insults for characters they don't like or who are like the ones I've heard about in Supernatural "fandom" who dislike the RL girlfriends/wives of the actors and say horrible things about them. These people aren't mature, they aren't able to censor themselves and they think they can say these kinds of awful things because they have the anonimity of the internet. They're here today and gone tomorrow and I doubt they will produce anything lasting in fandom, like serious meta, fic or art, so even though it's rant-worthy that this person said this (and why even use that insult??? It doesn't even make sense. It's like they use a word just
( ... )
I know as a non-American viewer, I felt really uncomfortable watching that whole SEAL team take down at the end. AMERICA YEAH appeals don't work that well outside the States, so all I got from that was an abuse of military power and national sovereignty (the cartel house was in Mexico, right?) to strike back at the people who hurt them. And isn't that pretty much what the assassin guy they shoot was doing?
Most of the people I know in fandom didn't much like that scene either.
I can ignore the really bad police procedure to a point (mostly because I used it to study crim pro last year, by pointing out all the things they were doing wrong) but that FYEAHBADASSSEALS thing just didn't work, either from a "go america!" standpoint or a storytelling one.
